  • We headed to Brighton to meet up with Paul Hartnoll, one half of the pioneering EDM duo Orbital. The reason for the visit was to introduce him to the new ARP 2600!
    Paul is no stranger to this iconic synthesiser, having purchased a 2600 for Orbital back in 1993, and is still the pride of place in his studio. Paul told us “We used 2600 a lot on the albums In Sides and Snivilisation, (particularly) on the track Kien Trink Wasser. It starts quite orchestral then jumps into a big bass drop which was the 2600. The original is all over those albums, sometimes more subtly”.
    In this video, you can see Paul take a first look at the new ARP2600 FS, making some initial comparisons to the original. “The added LFO is a great addition. I love that feature”. Summarising, Paul describes the 2600FS as a “fresh, sparkly, clean (dirty) ARP - straight out of the box”.
    Note: Filmed way back when life was normal, pre isolation!

    Incredibly bad form to be still plugging this synth when nobody can actually buy it and by the looks of it, probably never will be able to buy it. Also labelling Orbital as EDM is just adding insult to injury.

      Yes, it sounded pretty good on their teaser video. But I'd still like to see a side by side comparison. Korg are waiting on Behringer to announce their price, because they know they are real competition.

      @jjrusy7438 Před 4 lety +6

      just remember, there is always some "expert" that knows everything.....ask mr expert to link some of these "plenty of demos" and you will quickly learn, he is full of himself. there are only a couple of Behringer demos that don't really demo anything. you can also tell by the extreme comments "doesn't sound ANYTHING like.." right there you know the dude is full of it. BTW, i'm a korg fanboy all the way, BUT, just like I commented in one of the very first korg 2600 videos " I want the one where they lose the speakers, the spring reverb, the $2000 suitcase bs and re-arrange the face into a more compact module for way cheaper" why? because I don't want that useless extra crap. then Behringer introduces exactly what I wanted. so I also am waiting for the Behringer OR the korg module version.

      You’ll be surprised at how many they’ll shift. People still buy Moog Model D reissues and make fantastic music, that was around way before the 2600. Until you play one you won’t know the magic these things create. It makes a plug in look pathetic when placed side by side.

    Honestly, compared to the original, I think this sounds sterile and horrid. I can name VSTs I've heard that sound better. Guess I have to try harder, but it's not getting me over several videos. TO me, this sounds no better than the MS2000, which costs $400-600.
