- We headed to Brighton to meet up with Paul Hartnoll, one half of the pioneering EDM duo Orbital. The reason for the visit was to introduce him to the new ARP 2600!
Paul is no stranger to this iconic synthesiser, having purchased a 2600 for Orbital back in 1993, and is still the pride of place in his studio. Paul told us “We used 2600 a lot on the albums In Sides and Snivilisation, (particularly) on the track Kien Trink Wasser. It starts quite orchestral then jumps into a big bass drop which was the 2600. The original is all over those albums, sometimes more subtly”.
In this video, you can see Paul take a first look at the new ARP2600 FS, making some initial comparisons to the original. “The added LFO is a great addition. I love that feature”. Summarising, Paul describes the 2600FS as a “fresh, sparkly, clean (dirty) ARP - straight out of the box”.
Note: Filmed way back when life was normal, pre isolation!

Thats the best person to demo that synth.
or vince
@korg are we getting an arp 2600 mini as leaked pics suggested as did the fs after this models name? We have heard nothing.
If you guys made re issues of the mono/poly and poly 6 you guys will have a very very happy customer bass
“70s doctor who-ish kind of vibe”
"We're going out next year to celebrate..."
Let's hope we don't need to stay 2m away from each other by then.
well the ns20 didn’t grab me when i came to it in reality, but s 2600... well the only question is where would i put it?
Thirty years?? Fck me it seems like yesterday. Here's to the next thirty!
snivilisation, my favourite of orbital babies...
what is the stand please?
EDM??????? WTF Korg!!!
czy ktoś - w końcu - jakiś mistrz zagra na tym: coś wartościowego?
Że co proszę?
@@jeshkam 😀 to tak trudny instrument, że niewielu potrafi go użyć, Vangelis potrafił.
why promote a synth you cant buy since its "sold out" ..
Maybe because the 2600 mini will be announced soon :)
...to make us suffer? 😆
I had an original in 1978. Don't want one again, better synths out there for 1/4 the price
DB Cisco ya vintage re issues make it really hard to want the originals
You don't have to buy everything you see or hear... And most can't evn afford, so just enjoy this!
Incredibly bad form to be still plugging this synth when nobody can actually buy it and by the looks of it, probably never will be able to buy it. Also labelling Orbital as EDM is just adding insult to injury.
I'll wait for the Behringer 2600 instead. I'm not rich.
@Divinital is this true?
Yes, it sounded pretty good on their teaser video. But I'd still like to see a side by side comparison. Korg are waiting on Behringer to announce their price, because they know they are real competition.
just remember, there is always some "expert" that knows everything.....ask mr expert to link some of these "plenty of demos" and you will quickly learn, he is full of himself. there are only a couple of Behringer demos that don't really demo anything. you can also tell by the extreme comments "doesn't sound ANYTHING like.." right there you know the dude is full of it. BTW, i'm a korg fanboy all the way, BUT, just like I commented in one of the very first korg 2600 videos " I want the one where they lose the speakers, the spring reverb, the $2000 suitcase bs and re-arrange the face into a more compact module for way cheaper" why? because I don't want that useless extra crap. then Behringer introduces exactly what I wanted. so I also am waiting for the Behringer OR the korg module version.
Cant find it on their website...maybe thay had to "pull it" due to copyright?
@@bobfrode It's on their YT channel dated Feb 10, 2020
Who still buys this stuff?
You’ll be surprised at how many they’ll shift. People still buy Moog Model D reissues and make fantastic music, that was around way before the 2600. Until you play one you won’t know the magic these things create. It makes a plug in look pathetic when placed side by side.

Guitar Overkill with your name I would hope you would see a connection with the reason why people still buy tube guitar amps....
@@skipintroux4444 ones wonder what people who arent interested in such items doing and commenting on a video like this. Shouldnt they be trying to get a hold of a VST crecked or something haha.
Hartnoll it’s Moog, not Muug. Bob Moog wasn’t a cow.
grammar-nazis in comments
toitoitoy Not about grammar. He has been making music with synths for 30 years. He should know.
you know in different regions the same words sound differently even Bob told that "Moog on Moog.mp4" czcams.com/video/UDN-y0QQ7cs/video.html
@@epicon6 I found that "experts" seldom are.
@@user-xt3hk1wh6l lol
WTF? He got some really ugly sounds out of that beautiful synth... not the best promo for such an iconic synth.
Genshi Media Group I love Orbitals music - but it’s hard watching Phil mess with synths for the most part.
Yeah, I use to like Orbital back in the day as well, but this... not good.
@@Genshi Correct - my mind wiped the latest release from memory. Impact is my jam though.
Scalebrain what? There were some cracking tracks on the latest album, maybe relisten.
Honestly, compared to the original, I think this sounds sterile and horrid. I can name VSTs I've heard that sound better. Guess I have to try harder, but it's not getting me over several videos. TO me, this sounds no better than the MS2000, which costs $400-600.
