Yvan when I started detailing 15 years ago all I had was a rotary. Took a career change but now back to detailing. You have inspired me to pick up my rotary again today and the shine is stunning. I appreciate what you are doing for the detailing community
Thank you
I like this video because you're showing the rotary on a vertical panel and talking about how to work certain body lines. There are too many videos on CZcams where the detailer talks about how easy a polisher is to use and then they demonstrate on a flat test panel.
Thank you
Watched an older video of Yvan... he's doing an amazing job keeping in shape! Good for you sir 👏
Thank you
I love listening to Yvan talk about how the rotary is so safe when you know how to use it! Keep the polishing videos comming, we want them all! 😂😂
You got it 👍
Thanks for watching!
Great tips! Christine's a great student.
Agreed.
Applied your 3 year graphene coating the other day as a first timer (only have used carnauba wax before) and I have to say it was incredibly easy to apply and remove. Almost effortless! Now my car looks great and is super slick 😄 Quick beads is sold out though and I am sad !
Thank you, DIY Detail Quick Beads will be back shortly.
First my rotary skills are weak compared to Yvan! He is right about working within your shoulders as reaching for me causes the rotary to jump around. For me I think of the 10-2 rule to remind me which way the rotary is spinning. You will know very quickly when you polish a curved surface the wrong way. Yvan has been preaching for a long time how a rotary does not micromar if used correctly. The final finish is crisper and cleaner because a dual action polisher will always leave micromarring in the paint. This skill set does take repetition but is worth it.
Thank you Yvan for your lessons as I truly appreciate your teachings!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Another fantastic video. Thank you for all that you do for the detailing community.
Thank you!
You are THE man Yvan. Can’t wait to get the DIY polish and pads in the UK 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you, they are on the way!
Will be picking up your polish and pads as soon as i can here in the uk
They should be available soon!
Me too
Thank you

Was always an honor to meet you in person...love all your videos...
Thank you.
Great info
Thanks!!
Thanks for tuning in!!!
@@detailerchick do you have a Twitter page ?
This video has given me the confidence to take my rotary as close as 2 1/2 feet to the car.
You will get there soon
@@diydetailofficial Hope so! I’m going to touch the paint with it this weekend, even if it kills me 😬
Baby steps man, baby steps.
Great video! Lots of good information. You talked about finishing with a Rotary. Can you use it to do a one step or a paint enhancement?
Yes, but better to use our yellow waffle for that as opposed to the rotary jeweling pad
@@diydetailofficial Got it! 👍 Thank you.
Great video I love this channel. Is it juat water in the pad washer? Tha ks for taki g the time to make this amazing video.
DIY Detail Rinse Less Wash, 256/1
Really informative video guys thanks very much! All the DIY Detail vids have a lovely natural, personal feel about them which I really enjoy. 👍
Appreciate that!
Great info as always. Thanks.
What Mfg. /model is the teal blue machine Christine was using at the end? Looks very similar to the new Harbor Frt. Hercules forced rotation DA.
It’s a brand we are testing, not available yet.
Older, more experienced men, always have something that they can teach a younger lady.
Old guys can learn as well.
I just bought a cordless rotary , but its has a 7 inch backing plate. I want to buy a different backing plate and I am interested in the yellow backing plate that you use in most of your videos. Ivan and nick can you please tell me where I can get this backing plate and if its a 5 or 6inch. I appreciate your knowledge and videos I pretty much bought and use all of your products. thanks again.
Its available from Lake County Manufacturing, in both 5 and 6 inch.
I have some pads with thin "slits" (purple Scholl Concepts), and I often get buffer trails. Easy to remove with a soft finishing pad, but I have a theory that the slits might be the problem. I've ordered some of your gold waffle pads to see whether they make a difference. (I'd like to be able to do a single pass with a rotary - my finishing pads aren't quite aggressive enough)
Yes a waffle is a better choice. With the Gold Standard waffle, it will cut a little, and finish well.
I want to try this, but I have the Flex 3403 light rotary, and the slowest speed is like 1,100 rpm. I'm thinking I should get a different one with a slower speed. Christine has such a nice vibe, she's a natural.
try it with your flex, you might be surprised. Just whatever the lowest speed setting is on your machine
@@diydetailofficial thank you my friend!
This is Yvan, 1100 is very fast, you will need to keep a very quick and precise arm movement
@@diydetailofficial thank you sir Yvan!
Let us know how it works out for you
Yvan, I have a question on the LC 4000 and what cleaning solutions to use. I notice you use rinseless wash in there. I just got my LC4000 and their dedicated packets of pad cleaning solution.
Would rinseless be more advisable to use during the polishing? Just thinking a real polish pad cleaning solution may interfere with polish and/or car paint if pads damp with it. And rinseless may provide more lubrication to pad.
Maybe use packets of solution for thorough cleaning at end of session?
Thanks!
Both are good options
@yvanlacroix when using the rotary, do you recommend using the cross hatch pattern technique or just a “left to right back and forth” technique?
Your choice
Yvan, for a "one step" polish, do you typically stick with a DA or rotary polisher?
Whichever is the closest. If you’re just looking for added gloss, use the rotary, if it’s defects you want to eliminate, the DA.
Brand new 2023 tundra silver in color. Just bought it would you purchase a rotary to polish or a DA prior to ceramic coating? There is no paint correction needed as far as scratches
The choice is yours
I was wondering if i could get some assistance! I took a shot at buying the DIY rotary (I have only used DA from harbor freigh) I used the backing plate that came attached. And bought the 5.5" pad. Im not sure if its the wrong size or something as soon as i place it down with no oressure it tries to fly from me. What am i doing wrong? I do see the pad is not as centered?
If you can post a video of yourself using it in our facebook group . We will be able to better assist.

Does the Tolco 9-1/2" Black Spray Trigger come with the tube attachment? Thanks
Yep!
Is there a way to clean the pad without removing it from the Velcro or do you have to use that dedicated cleaning machine? Thank you!
The pad washer is the best way to clean your pad, but if that's not for you and you don't want to remove the pad to dunk it in the Rinseless bucket and wring it out... some people use compressed air. Not our favorite method, it will degrade the pad faster than how we teach, but if you're looking for another option...there you go:)
Yvan the Canadian immigrant
Citizen of the world.
Yvan do you use the same method with a da as in zero pressure when cutting
Yes
hi , are the pad washer bucket with only plain water or need to add some chemicals ?
DIY Detail Rinseless Wash diluted 256/1
Me trying to watch all the videos about polishing DA and Rotary in preparation of polishing and coating my car the first time... 🤯
Thank you.
Do you feel like the 5.5" pad can be too small for a rotary? I've tried it with an older heavy rotary at 500 rpm and it just felt awkward. I'm used to the 8" 3M Perfect_It waffle pads.
I find 6 inch to 7 inches to be the sweet spot
Greetings! What is the benefit of using a rotary polisher? Is it faster than the orbital in terms of covering surface area or does it provide superior finishing of the clear coat?
Here’s a good video, we have a ton on the channel about rotary: czcams.com/video/pJ6YAgShmlA/video.html
hi, I want to know if you're technic in rotary can work with compounds and Wool pad and low-speed, to remove dull paint, and do your technic is working with finishing pad for show cars Thank you, Best.
Yes, slow and no pressure is always best
Hello can i use a orange waffle pad on the rotary to polish or wax thanks from Fresno California
Yes, but it’s a little stiff.
Thanks
What brand rotary polisher do you use or recommend since low speed seems to be an important factor?
Many brands out there, the Flex Rotary (though pricier than some) is excellent
Sir, can the rotary marks from the use of pad wool be removed with a rotary machine too or do I have to change to DA?
Everything can be done with the rotary.
I’m about to go get a rotary. It looks way easier than running a da over and over. Thoughts on Milwaukee rotary? I have the eco system and I have Milwaukee 15 DA
It’s a good machine
I've just bought the Milwaukee cordless rotary and it is great. The way I polish (a panel or two at a time), I could have EASILY survived with just one 5ah battery (probably even smaller), but I got a kit that has the Rapid Charger plus 2 x 5ah batteries
Btw, I use a rotary byfor everything - light polishing + finishing
Will a rotary finish better than a DA on finicky soft black paint?
Yes
And finishing will see squirl mark when see under yellow light closely
No swirls to be found on this truck.
Sir, polishing with dewalt dwp849x machine has lowest speed for the edges, can it still be polished or can it be avoided?
Is it possible to use an acid with a pH 3 to clean clear coat before polishing?
greetings from Indonesia
Yes the Dewalt at the lowest speed is great.
Yes you can use acid, but be very careful.
Tks Sir .
Nice to see you polishing off with your wife in the white and yellow car. I watched it to the end..
I am interested in the system 4000. Unfortunately I’m having difficulty finding a way to purchase it. Any suggestions?
We have it in stock:) diydetail.com/products/lake-country-system-4000-pad-washer
So how many pads you musta have for a standards size sedan?
If you use the pad washer to clean between each section pass…just 1 pad😀
I believe the red pad is a finishing pad that you have coming out, what's the blue pad?
Blue is a test that we have decided to not go forward with.
The pad washer is nice but god damn 160 bucks for a modded 5 gal bucket is insane
It’s much more than that.
Can a McKees 37 rinse less wash be used in the pad washer
Yes
Thank you. All Your videos are great and Super informative , School without the tuition .
How well are u cutting if u r not pressing ?
We don’t want pressure or heat, especially for a one step rotary polish on speed 1. If you want to cut, switch to a 21mm dual action polisher with a wool pad
Any chance for shipping to UK ? 😊
Products are on the way
What is the advantage of polishing with a rotary instead of a DA?
it gives you superior gloss to finish with a rotary vs a DA. Try it side by side with a DA, and when you step back from 5 feet away (disregard what you might see with a scan grip headlamp or in the dark shop with one isolated light on it, that's only what detailers see) the GLOSS from the rotary side is superior.
do i use plane water to wet and rinse the pads while poliahing?
we suggest the pad washer, although you can use your bucket of Rinseless Wash to take off pad, dunk it in, wring it out and free spin it after (but that's 2nd best option to the pad washer)
@@diydetailofficial thankyou very much for the info
Whats the saying once you go rotary you never go back
Good Stuff Yvan and Christine
Sounds right to me! Both machines have a place, however
How you do you get the 10% off for signing up via email?
Use code YVAN10 we have been having issues with that email
@@diydetailofficial thank you
Thank you
Yvan truly is a professor of detailing and a master in the rotary, I am one of those afraid of it but really need to give it a try after seeing this...
also guys, make Christine an official DIY employee, videos are so much better when she is part of them, we can keep Nick behind the camera!🤣
Lol thanks for the feedback
No way, Nick is great!
And well, so is Christine.
Re polisher speed, why can't we up the RPM, but move the machine faster, to get the same work done, only faster?
You will actually get less work done, but more effort on your part. You will feel like you did more in less time, you will have done more, the machine will have done less. Speed creates heat, heat reduces cut.
@@diydetailofficial I know speed creates heat, but the working time will be less, because the pad will be moving across the surface faster. This may, in theory, result in the same amount of heat.
Just as an aside, I note with interest that the instructions on the bottle of my Optimum Hyper Polish say to use a speed range up around 1600rpm, which is significantly higher than Yvan recommends for your Gold polish. I'm curious to know whether Yvan used 1600 with the Optimum when he was working for them. 😀 (maybe for cutting only?)
In Brazil you feel sick
Why
Detailer nutellas, here in Brazil the farce is over
Pop's be cool AF and he is so smooth with da rotary he a pro tho
I enjoy both
Audio is a tad low
Thanks for the input
Why use a DA? It seems this is better.
There’s no better, it comes down to which tools you have or are comfortable with
So basically your saying polish with a rotary and cut with a DA? Well since I don't have unlimited funds to spend, what would you spend more money on to have? More expensive rotary and cheap DA or vice versa?
these are difficult questions to answer, since budget is one variable and how you'll use these is another variable. Are you a pro? Enthusiast? Do you plan to do hammered cars or brand new cars? What's your goal with polishing paint in the first place? That's a good place to start:)
@@diydetailofficial
Enthusiast and non hammered cars. Personal vehicles
What is the ideal speed ? Mine doesn't have 1, 2 , 3 etc. Mine goes from 500rpms - 2000rpms
Lowest speed setting you’ve got 👍
It is shocking and unbelievable when someone pays you big money to professionally fell some big trees and you are not even proficiently comfortable (at the least) in holding and using a REAL chainsaw.
The detailing industry has been invaded and still infested by many jobless Westerners who need to start becoming a “detailer”, but with no professional to properly teach him/her how to professionally use the main tool of the trade…the Rotary.
Thankfully, business-minded money hungry entrepreneurs were smart enough to use American social to promote the hugely over-priced, premium branded, home hobbyist DA machine as THE detailing machine so that Jose from across the border, illegals, and jobless parents can quickly pick up a DA and call themselves “professional detailers” and start “installing” coatings.
This is how the American and UK detailing industries are killing themselves.
A genuine professional detailer should absolutely know how to professionally use ALL types of polishing machine.
Sadly, most American “detailers” are commandos who only know how to use pistols and nothing else.
Thank you
I’ve never polished a car, boats and boat molds. All I’ve ever used was a Milwaukee 7-9 polisher/grinder. I bought a da polisher a few years ago, and hated it.
