The new Eg 4 inverters that you are now using are the best value out there. I would definitely upgrade to those if I expand my system. The Eg4 ll batteries are also the best bang for your buck. I wish those were available when I purchased my system 18 months ago. It seems to be the best system out there and everyone is giving great reviews. I'm already wanting to expand my system to be 100 percent off grid and independent. So far our small system is performing flawlessly.
I started small with 12 panels 3.8kw and 2 3kw Growatt inverters. A 5.3kw battery. I did everything myself and we power everything except our central AC and electric dryer. We reduced our electric bill by 62% and run all our lights and outlets, 2 freezers, 2 refrigerators, hot water heater, and a freeze dryer.
On a good sunny day it powers everything and charges the battery.
We can double the PV arrays to 7.6kw if needed. We will be adding more battery backup soon.
I encourage everyone to at least have some kind of solar backup. It's not the perfect solution but it's better than running a fuel powered generator.
If we can do on a limited income anyone can do it. Yes we had to buy everything as we could afford it and it took us 18 months to complete but now we're producing most of our power daily. LIFE IS GOOD!
The pantry is full, the barn is full of wood, and we're all healthy!
Great video and great advice 👍

How does the hot water heater work with your system? Thats the deal breaker for me. It uses 49% of my total energy consumption. Im looking a a boiler system right now.

@moto mike119 My small 3.8kw solar system 12 panels and 2 Growatt 3kw inverters coupled in 240 single phase power my system. I have 5.3kw battery backup and will power my home through the night. I'm not tired to the, but use grid power to charge my batteries on cloudy days. My 80-gallon hybrid Rheem water heater is a 15amp 240volt model that has 4 different modes of operation. I use heatpump mode only, which does take longer recovery time but allows for lower power consumption. It only draws about 400 watts to heat the water.
Our average cost per day is approximately $1.40 if using grid power. A sunny day equals free hot water. We used this water heater for 1 year before we installed the solar system, and it reduced our electric bill by 38%. After installing the solar system, our electric bill is now 62% lower from a year ago. We have a family of four and never run out of hot water. There's nothing available that is more cost-effective than a heatpump water heater. I researched every method and energy source. Solar hot water heaters would be the exception 😋
What kind of boiler system? What energy source? I'm curious?
One other source could be wood gasification gas-powered generators or boilers. Very good, but lots of maintenance and work.
My system is minimalist but provides hot water, refrigeration, lights, and power. I can also double its capacity, which I plan on doing the next 2 years. My total investment is $9,000, and I will pay for the system in 4 years.

@@witness1449 well, id love to buy an outdoor wood burner, but $12k is Alittle more than i want to spend. Im trying to stay away from gas just because you seem "them" attacking propane and natural gas stoves, ovens, and heaters. Id really like to stay electric just because of the investment i already have in my solar.
I'm going to build a small burn box i can put at the end of my back deck out of a old hot water heater tank and put a larger copper coil in it and tie it into my existing hot water side of my plumbing. It wouldn't be too inconvenient to start and keep going to take showers at night. That way as long as i keep a fire going I'll have endless hot water. Also it should stay warm enough in my hot water heater so we would still have hot water in the morning without starting a fire. I can use the breaker to use my electricity if i still need to.
Im WAY OVER powered in the summer time so my dump can be hot water heater and AC. But this time of year and with the cloudy days back to back i still have the hot water heater on the grid. That heat pump hot water heater you have my also be a option.

@moto mike119 Wood boilers are great in the winter, and you can have all the hot water you need. They are vary practical for home heat , do have a high initial cost factor like solar, and use a tremendous amount of wood. If you have an unlimited supply of firewood, then it's a logical choice just costly. An additional amount of battery storage for your solar system and a free-standing wood stove may be a consideration for maybe less money. We heat 100% with wood and have 2 wood burning stoves. We're in Southern Indiana and use less than 2 cords of firewood a season. Please check out the 80 gal Rheem hybrid heatpump water heater. It's amazing!
      Good luck and be safe

For those that cant diy a system or have one built. They can still get for minimal electricity usage a portable unit with a built in battery bank like the Bluetti or EcoFlow. They just need to supply the solar panels. I suggest at least 2 or 3 readily available at your local Harbor Freight.
For a few months now Ive been piecing everything together, buying my DIY off grid unit from Signature Solar. Ive purchased panels and the Growatt 3kW Stackable Off-Grid Inverter | SPF 3000TL LVM-48P. A few things I bought off amazon like battery and pv cables/w lugs & crimp tool., breakers & power distribution box. For now Ive bought from walmart 8 of their best deep cycle 12v Maxx Ever Start 29DC group size batteries, and ordered the H12 battery balancer. If later I can afford to get lithium, I will. It's all sitting on bench in the barn. The only thing I need to do is build a panel rack and will DIY that too with super struts and hardware all that I can get locally from Lowes.
Those that are thinking about doing roof mount panels consider the cons... Depending where you live you may need a building permit. Then also consider the risks of a leaking roof or fire caused by a short. If you didn't do thing by the book you may be SOL trying to file a claim with your insurance company.

California in fact avoided rolling blackouts this last time on 9/7. But we're paying 31 cents/kWh, so we'are looking at putting in a 16kW system. It makes total sense now, even with a ground-mount. We've got 45kWhr of batteries and we're going to run heat pumps with it so we get rid of most of our propane use too. It's definitely time!

Thank you for your reply. As an update to this conversation on energy fuel increases I've just opened my Oklahoma Natural Gas bill: Quoted from one of two letters included in my statement: "The February 2021 Winter Storm Uri significantly impacted Oklahomans". "The average residential customer will see a monthly charge between just over $6 to $10 a month, based on their annual natural gas usage".
For many people that is a lot. And there's a subsidy for those that are low-income customers. Their increase is $0.00. So for those who paid to install a high-efficiency system to reduce energy consumption, we are subsidizing the rest.
Part of the electric companies' and other utility companies' arguments for increasing rates are increased operating costs. According to a fellow CZcamsr, Scotty Kilmer, the US Supreme Court made a ruling against the EPA. The court's ruling removes the power of the EPA to regulate emissions (an operating cost). I wonder if we will be getting a rebate?
Keep rocking! I will be in touch with you soon. Going to install my own Solar System.

These are all good points and many of the reasons why we decided to start building our system as well. In addition one of our primary reasons was to run our deep well pump when the grid goes down. We have a midsize and a large generator and neither of them are able to run the pump due to its 60 amp start up needs. The system we are building, which is very similar to what you have, will handle this with no problem at all.

A little disappointed with the jab at California and EV charging.

No different than Colorado and Texas forcible raising internet enabled thermostats.

I get the 5k stackable units can be stacked and these are a little cheaper but the 12K GroWatt seems more than adequate for the average home. I've looked into the EG4 Inverters but I don't know what kind of data it can provide and how. I can't find any information on this. The GroWatt has the Wifi stick that allows one to see comprehensive details about your inverter and data. I know they also have a sever you can log into to view. I like seeing the data and I guess that the IT side of me. What does EG4 offer for viewing the inverter and data logging? I can't find anything on it. Over $3K in damages (and we got off very light compared to others) from burst pipes because we could not run the 15 AMP controller circuit for the natural gas heater in the house. While we are looking at more of an RV sized portable system to augment a dual fuel generator I will say that the expandability of solar vs. other options is appealing. It is definitely a lot more appealing than listening to a combustion generator for 2-3 days and the inevitable 3AM refills! After that fiasco we took some pages from various prepping approaches. First step (for us) is emergency and portability then possibly a standalone whole home system. One issue facing may of us is that this is not our forever home in the burbs.

I've got 1400 watts of solar panels and a 600 watts wind generator. I have twenty marine batteries and an Aims Power 24 volts inverter charger. I bought the first two batteries in July of 2020. I don't have much money so I had to piece together everything. I wound up with four different brands of panels, six different sizes. They were sold out so I'd order some other one. I got the wind generator three weeks ago. Waiting for a new watts meter, the other one had an accident. I bought a Winco Lil Dog generator in November. With all I have, it was right at $6000. I have more power than I need most days. At 5 a.m. the MT 50 is showing 24.9 volts, will be charging from the solar panels again in two hours. Full charge is 25.6 v. I had ordered a 24 volts wind turbine but they sent me a 12 volts model. I used it anyways. It has helped keep the voltage from dropping much at night. So the batteries are usually at float charge by 10 a.m. I started out to get a 3 k inverter but they were out, and a 4 k was too high, so I have a 2 k inverter. I have to say the wind generator helps a lot, when it's raining or cloudy. It must be producing a little bit, the voltage is 25.1 now. My little system works fairly well. I installed extra nuts behind the hub of the wind generator after some 70 MPH wind gusts the other day. It cost about $525 to get it going. From what I have seen, most people want the quick easy solution, so they're looking at a solar generator or something. That's better than nothing. But I like my system. It's a little more hillbilly than yours. It's all paid for, and it will run the air conditioning unit and the freezer this summer. To have all this power from the 🌞 sun and wind, is great. I'm the only one that I know of that has either one in this community.

I have solar to run necessities. Lights, fans, electric blanket are crotical for us.
AC, water heater, clothes dryer, are luxuries that we have come to see as necessities.
At a minimum you'll need to spend $5k to have any serious amount of juice but for $500 you can get some minimal capabilities.
Two 100 watt panels and one of the small solar generators will be enough to run a small fan and a couple of lights. I have a Bluetti that stores around 250 watts. It will charge during the day with one panel a day run a small fan for 8 hours or more.
Batteries are the biggest expense in any system if you want power when the sun goes down. Apartment dwellers will have to work with very few panels, assuming they have a sunny balcony.

To not get in debt is to not get solar panels. To not get in debt is to live with lead acid batteries. Do not get in debt is to never be able to afford to converters you need to ask you in your house. To not getting debt means electric company keeps cut and turning off my power cuz I can't keep a Ford paying them the outrageous pays that they decide that you owe them cuz they keep raising the prices. I'm trying to avoid paying too much for electricity I killed my gas 27 years because it got too much and I went through a different source the heat my house. So I have a question for you what should I do to get the solar system set that I need to run my house I can spare about 163 a week but I can't save the money the pay $1,000 in the same time better take to save the $163 a week so I'm looking at getting a loan that cost me something like $404 a month and paying $163 a week you tell me not to get in debt do I really have a choice if I really need to get a real solar system set or do I just go without. But when I buy solar panels and I can't do nothing with them I put them upstairs in a big bedroom no one uses it so it's a good place to set them when I can't do nothing with them but right now if I order it there to come hopefully in a few weeks and I might give you something before we get snow typically we won't get snow for about one and a half to two months but if we're supposed to get a worse winter this year we might get it sooner. Good thing I have other inverters that I use well actually I use many inverters power what I need to power in a few months or less I'll hook up a couple more for more power for winter. But not my kitchen stove oven not unless something comes through what you give me a debt that I really don't want but would work okay for what I would get. Fact is that a normal 3br home with a family of five operating their house as they normally would on grid, that complete solar system would cost $60K!! The average utility bill for the same home is about $200 a month. This means I could stay on grid for 300 months before I reach $60K. That is 25 years and the best part is that I didn't have to replace expensive batteries twice (10 year life) or any panels. I didn't have to monitor my usage or worry about power in the winter when the panels are covered in snow or week long dark gray sky coverage. Fact is that Solar which they have been promising would become affordable has been a lie for the past 30 years when I started wanting it. When that $60K system gets down to $15K, then it would make sense to BUY. Until then, solar is really only something for those located too far off the grid to get grid power.

Actually 'Fact IS' a grid-tied (no back-up) solar electric(PV) IS the best long-term investment to reduce rising energy costs for most homeowners.🚀 As you, most considering PV do straight line ROI calculations, assuming utility electric rates are constant (e.g.. "$200 a month...for 300 months...") but facts are utility rates increase constantly and, as C.L.E. noted some utilities rates in last year have risen up to 50% in US!!
So even without extreme rate increases now, using a very conservative (historical avg. 5%) on 200.$/ mo. utility bill over 25 years = $120,294.46. So which is better ownership of power source ...or renting energy with unknown rising rates for same time period!! You're cleared for takeoff...🛩️

It is definitely a lot more appealing than listening to a combustion generator for 2-3 days and the inevitable 3AM refills!

I have been prepping for about 3 years now. But I can't do any of this. I don't think I will be the only one either. 😢😢

After spending 20k with them I'm not impressed. It took 3 weeks to get tech support. Then we had a Doa inverter and that took a few more weeks to get diagnosed, that's even after we we sent photos of the system and voltage readings of the system. 4 tech later they determined the inverter was bad. It took us a few min to diagnose the inverter was bad when it wouldn't turn on like the other inverter. Tried to reach operation manager or owner been getting the run around. 🏃‍♀️

I want solar signatures EG for 6548 inverters what you have two of them but 13 KW will not be enough cuz I'm telling you everything in my house is electric my kitchen stove would use one of them at 240 volts my water heater we use half of the other one and a big refrigerator will probably use the rest of it so I would have to at least go with three or four inverters and yes I want EG4'S inverters that's what I want to get but I'll probably get something else first and I will get those and I know you can line up to nine of them I only line up eight of them but I will get 12 of them and the other four would be for something else that would be for winter for my garden which I only have for the summertime right now and I'm going to try to add that for winter and that's what the four other eg4 6548 inverters would be for maybe I have to get a third loan after I get the first two loans hard decision to make and yes I'm going to get solar from them as well I like to solar panels and they also sell to buy facial solar panels but what I really want to get is the 535 to 545 Watt solar panels buy facial.
I do know 20 some years ago the electric company had solar panels that don't sell you and put their inverters on and their solar panels which were 500 watts each that's what I wanted to get back then I think I still want to get something like that but with a little more advantage that's why I want the 500 plus Watts but I'm also going to get the eg4s 455 Watts but first I probably get a bunch of smaller ones cuz I have to get loans it's probably do what I want to do and if I do that I might be disable the money even if I'm not making any money to buy the eg4 things from signature solars and I definitely want their batteries but I'm going with AGM batteries that are 200 amp hours each which gives me 14 plus kilowatts with six of them so I'm going to get something like hopefully 24 of them and I know you're only going to use half of what what the amperage is so it wouldn't be quite that much but it would be a start. Probably even though even over my 17 lead acid batteries that I'm using right now and so not making enough power to run my house that now only have 2,600 watts of electricity right now in solar panels.

The problem with this industry is it is complicated. Not everyone understands electric usage or generation (science behind all this) so it's hard to determine if the salesman is lying or not. Many of these salesmen read off a script and don't fully understand the science themselves. Also how are these installers trained and certified? How are problems resoved between installation and component problems (blame game). You hear a lot about poor installations leading to roof leaks and damaging homes. Not fully understanding how tax credits work, how or if utilities will buy your excess power. Not to mention the different regulations governing your communities. What is the actual payback period? You really have to do your research, and this will take a lot of time and effort to understand the science, the equipment and how it all works together something many consumers are not willing to do. I know I won't I rather be on the golf course. Bottom line when you calculate pay back on investment it takes too long to get your money back and if you take into account that some components will fail it adds to the length of time to recoup your investment.

I agree some of what you are saying. My payback is only 3.5 years. I did all the research ahead of time. I recommend everyone do that if they want solar. Solar is not for everyone (I have done videos on all of those topics).

My old electric bill is half of what it would be right now literally they doubled the price and it did this back in January they doubled the price of what they're selling electric to the people here so bad that I couldn't pay it they turn me off and it has not been turned on since I still owe them money but I'm not too worried about it it's kind of funny but I do have some solar panels that doesn't run nearly is what needs to run but it is running some things it can't run my big refrigerator which is a normal refrigerator because it's something like 2,000 Watts or something like that well I could actually run if I could hook up the bigger inverter but I'm running a small refrigerator freezer some lights TV and run the computer I run what I need so I know bills are getting more expensive and so unexpensive and the electric company knows I don't use gas I haven't used gas for more than 20 years so they really know how to hit me hard usually when they turn me off I'd usually get them paid up within a few weeks or a couple months and that's it but I've been trying to get more solar panels course none of my solar panels are all the same size or how many different sizes so I'm using 12 volts but my solar chargers want to use 31 volts so even though I don't get solar panels that are more than 18 volts and most cases some of them are more but I could really go to 24 volts that's not what I'm going to do when I get a good system I'm going to go to 48 volts and I'm also going to use 12 volts I'll have two systems and truthfully I probably end up having three systems cuz I probably will do 24 volts but in a different situation but probably not with my house.

Dismissing "the green thing" seems very petit minded. The monopoly held by ultilities has been built on dirty energy. The USA has way more blackouts than any other developed nation that is precisely because of antiquated grid infrastructure and slow adoption of renewables. Every single person that installs solar reduces the demand for monopoly dirty energy. What part of pollution is good? The blackouts are not just because of the recent and current crisis, blackouts have been normal in many parts of the USA for years and decades long before "the green thing". Same with water, the number of places in the USA that has undrunkable water is a shocking indictment of Third World conditions in hyper capitalist USA. Meanwhile the single greatest transfer of wealth in history has gone to the top while public infrastructure in the USA and other Western nations has got worse and worse and worse.

I'm sorry what I'm doing I'm not using candles what I'm doing is going through Walmart apps and I'm buying 100 watt solar panels blue ones actually because they start making electricity 2 hours before the black ones do when they make electricity for about an hour and a half after the breakfast stop making electricity and they're only 100 Watts but yeah I'm starting to buy those to start with even though I do have black solar panels and I did buy panels in the past but to my defense they do start making electricity and cloudy weathers like today and it's raining outside my black ones are not making anything not at all to show me right now they're not making 9:30 in the morning my blue ones oh wow they're making good electricity they're making real good electricity yeah I'm going to buy some more blue solar panels before I buy some black ones and yes I can buy black solar panels to Walmart too and I can buy bigger solar panels to Walmart and I can buy a good big system but first I have to have the money but I only have about 200 bucks a week that I can put to it and actually it's not even 200 bucks it's 136 bucks this week last week it was 160 bucks the week before that it was only nothing next week it might be something or probably nothing but the week after that I could pay probably $200 something yeah I got to start small I got to work small I need to get a loan I mean if I could come up with a hundred bucks a week $150 a week and if I could pay that each week on a loan then I can actually get a loan and when I'm hearing right now is $404 a month so if I could pay $120 a week on it and it take 120 bucks a week I could pay up that loan at 400 a month easily and slightly more but to make monthly payments probably won't be a thing for me cuz I saved up money it's kind of hard when you need to use money to live I can't budget to save it when I know I'm going to use it for something else but I don't need something for something else if I spend it right then cuz that becomes not in need to explain it to be too hard to explain it but it's just easier for me to pay weekly than it is to pay pay monthly because if I have to pay monthly I'll end up buying another solar panels and something else when I can't because I need to pay a loan I just never have the money to pay the loan then and I can't say that's true either cuz I did pay off a mortgage that was a monthly payment of course they wanted 300 bucks a month and so I paid him $600 bucks a month they wanted $163 a month so I paid $600 a month yes I paid off my mortgage early and yes I made weekly payments and they wanted monthly payments but I still paid weekly so the way I was able to keep paying it yes I paid their monthly payments but then I paid others during the month to actually pay it off like I said it works better if I pay weekly cuz if they want 400 bucks a month I'll just pay $200 a week all month long until it's paid off and then since I would want more and then I'm getting another loan and doing the same thing over and over and over again you know maybe I should think about doing that with a car too or a truck instead of coming up with cash for it to buy it but I don't like getting loans for vehicles something to think about something to think about.
