I started playing guitar in college and a good friend of mine said if you're going to play listen to this guy. That guy was Stevie Ray Vaughan. I think I would just thank him for his music and teaching me that much of what you play just comes from the inside no matter your skill level. Every time I listen to him I hear something different. He never played a song the same way twice. It seemed as though there was a direct path from his soul to his fingers. People can play his songs note for note but it's never the same. The passion and intensity he had in his playing simply can't be duplicated. He was truly one of a kind.

If you don't play, you'll never get what he's saying. It's all about feel. Feeling the music your playing with and what you want to get across to people. Technique is important. Its like learning to read and write. Once you get to a certain point, you don't have to do writing exercises anymore, you just write what you want. Once you understand your vocab and structure on guitar, you just play. Let it out.

Nicely said. Im not sure mr. Christopher is there yet. He should also know that all musicians and artists are "off" alittle bit. We see and hear things that havent manifested their properties yet. We bring creation to life. Its called be creative. Im sure it does seem weird to outsiders. Some of the pictures i draw are so far out they had shrinks trying to shoebox them into some sort of reasonal pattern as to the way i think and who i am. They never got it. To be able to draw a scene that doesnt exist is an awesome talent. Same thing with music🎶. Thanks. Have a good day.

@@superbeast4287 to be creative you have to venture off the path most travelled. If you dont you're just copying and cutting and pasting. You can either paint a new picture or trace an old one. Both have value though. Nothing wrong with being a cover band kind of guy. Nothing wrong with being an artist. Quit seeing shrinks. Its their job to get you back in the shoebox. Unless your going to hurt someone or yourself and need the help of course. Other than that just be you with the understanding you are on a different path and accept what comes with it.

You play from the heart. Your feelings and your soul play the guitar, or drums, or bass, or keyboards. It's not your hands. It's not technique. It's not style. It's the lifeforce you put into your playing. Over the past 40+ years of being a guitarist on-stage and off, I've seen a lot of guitar players just regurgitate. Nowhere in their playing is who they are. You have to put your SELF in your playing. Carlos is 100% on the money with that! When you put 100% of yourself in your playing, people take notice!

The true greats (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) wrote music for both God and love. It's refreshing to see that music does have people like Mr. Santana that still writes from the heart. In today's world, most so called musicians don't write like that. It's all about standpoints or whatever will get the most sales. It's saddening. Music is a gift.

Carlos has been spreading the Universal Wisdom of Unity around like butter on hot toast, mang. Either that or found a huge stash Sandoz in an old guitar case and ain't sharin'. Either way - he's still rockin'!

    I love this guy.
He makes me smile, and he's about making the world a better place, and music can still do that.

Holy crap... that is freaking awesome!!! I am so envious of you meeting Santana and having a great interview with him. After he talked about the fifth note of smooth, the tenth fret of the second string is now hallowed ground. Great videos as always man.

I'd love to meet that man right there, Santana. His music is amazing. I love many different types of music and guitarists, but to me I think he's the best. Not only is he great from a technical standpoint, his writing is great too.
