First of all, thanks as this is the first review I found on YT about the Gear box. Do you believe is worth it against the regular Base Camp duffels?
Thanks! I think if the choice is between a duffel bag of the gear box, then the duffel is definitely more versatile. The main advantage of the gear box, is that you can flip the lid open a have direct access to the content, and with the duffel you have less overview. However, the duffel can be used as a backpack, travel bag, checked luggage, hand luggage (S) shopping bag, you name it, and the gear box can only be carried like a box basically. Hope this helps?
@@TDMiller Thanks! Final question, I’m reading that the Gear Box is 300D against the 1000D of the Duffel, do you feel it weaker?
@@carr991 you do feel a difference. The Duffels feel almost indestructable and will probably go through harder conditions. I'm not sure why they used 300D on the box, but it does collapse/fold a lot easier than the Duffels do, making it easier to compress and store away.

How water proof is it?
North face made a compromise for flexibility and compactness with this box. I would strongly prefer that this be made of the bombproof 1000 Denier with PVC coated material like the standard Base Camp Duffel instead of the more flimsy 300 Denier TPU coated fabric of Base Camp Voyager. Alas, this is made from the weaker material. This is a miss. I hope TNF comes out with a version of this box with the tougher material. The intended use is not for day trips. It’s for outdoor abuse.
Big backpack is cheaper and more versatile imo

and do you have the comparison between this size M and L gear box?
@@calistadamanta8466 this is the M. I believe the L wasn't released yet when I bought it. 😅
I'm afraid I can't compare the sizes, although I can't imagine carrying an ever bigger gear box. When the M is filled up, it can get quite heavy already.
