  • There has been widespread shock from various bodies following the release of the national government's gazette on Friday, which gives Eskom a blanket exemption from the Public Finance Management Act. The exemption also includes any irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure that occurred during the financial years 2022/23/24 and 25. Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says National Treasury's decision is concerning and that the western cape government is considering taking action to compel Eskom to disclose all of its figures. The Black Business Council says it views this decision as irrational and desperately seeks to shield former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter from his lack of compliance with the PFMA. The business group says it seeks an urgent meeting with Minister Enoch Godongwana to discuss this development. Business Unity South Africa's Chief Executive Officer Cas Coovadia joins the discussion via Zoom.

Mr Coovadia seems to be losing his mind. WE do not want any expenditure checks and balance exemptions for any SOE!
