  • This is my 6th Lesson. We mostly practiced touch and goes for the full lesson. These are some of my first 10 landings so they are rough and frustrating. We are in a Cessna 172 at KHFY in Greenwood, IN - outside of Indianapolis. My flight instructor was a helicopter pilot and fixed wing pilot for over 30 years.
    2 things happened during this first takeoff:
    1) The nose-wheel started to shimmy, not necessarily uncommon, but it requred us to put some back pressure on the yoke before the plane was really ready to takeoff
    2) I had taken my hand off the throttle!! So when we had the nosewheel shimmy we pulled back on the yoke and weren't gaining airspeed anymore until i noticed it! This all happened very quick but taught me a HUGE LESSON!
    I like to share my experience. I hope other students can appreciate these videos. Thanks for watching!

    A tip to pass along, I HEARD the engine pitch lower on his initial takeoff and was wondering why he wasn't being told to keep his hand on the throttle. The sound is a good thing to pay attention to.

    Been there with rough landings. I took lessons in 2010 and 2011. I have stopped because I ran out of funds to continue. the lessons with instructor and wet were $200 per hour. You can see some my wife recorded if you type in Landing 4 on 071611 in the search box on You Tube. The lessons were at KUMP in Fishers, IN landing on 15.

    Way fast taxi

    • @Zero-mp5dt
      @Zero-mp5dt Před 7 lety

      There really isn't a set speed for "safe" taxiing. AIM states a safe taxiing speed is a speed where you able to: Have positive control, Recognize potential hazard in time to avoid them, to turn or stop where desired without extremely heavy braking. Its one of those gray areas of operations.

    • @rockyrabalais3776
      @rockyrabalais3776 Před 5 lety

      @@Zero-mp5dt the speed is 14 gs (ground speed) so yeah there is and "safe" taxi speed.

    • @Zero-mp5dt
      @Zero-mp5dt Před 5 lety

      @@rockyrabalais3776 uhh nope idk who told you 14 kts but that is flat out wrong. There is no set speed, it's whatever is deemed safe. Usually it's defined as a brisk walking speed for GA planes.

    • @rockyrabalais3776
      @rockyrabalais3776 Před 5 lety

      @@Zero-mp5dt Actually my flight instructor had told me that... so if there is "no set speed" then how is 14 gs "flat out wrong" ? No argument just a question.

    • @Zero-mp5dt
      @Zero-mp5dt Před 5 lety +1

      @@rockyrabalais3776 Ah well it's good to question your flight instructor. I'm a CFII myself, however if he says to do 14 kts GS you should listen to him but ask him why that number in particular. I usually teach my students no more than 10 knots. And no argument but you defined the speed as 14 I didn't.
