  • It’s been 30 days since I decided to turn this derelict 1964 Cadillac into my daily driver that had been sitting for 25 years! What’s it like driving a barn find? What repairs has it needed? And does it even still run?!? Find out on this update video! And... don’t forget to subscribe for more videos!

About the whitewalls... or lack of. I wanted the factory spec 1” white walls but the shop I took it to could not source them... and since I was trying to get it ready for a car show the next morning I couldn’t wait To source some. Thus it has Black wall tires. At some point I would put the white walls on but for now this is what it has.

There are white paints that work amazingly well for doing sidewalls. There are tons of these paint jobs ( and vids too from California car shops) done this way all over North America. Easy as pie to do them yourself too. I don't know how much you paid, but it all looks amazing. I can only imagine how happy you were the first few drives. I was smiling the whole vid. You LUCKY fella you!

Alex, my parents always had a Cadillac until the late 70's when my dad felt that they didn't make them the same. When I was a kid I just about lost my fingers from the car's power windows and locks. My brother caught my fingers in the car & still have the scars 50 plus years later! My mom was in a 12 car pile up in the beginning of the 70's out on the freeway! We were later told that had she been in any other type of car she probably wouldn't have been with us. We were told at the garage the body was actually moved on the frame! Yes, she was wearing a seat belt and her most serious injury was on her sun visor was a leather pouch that had metal clips to hold it on the visor which was to hold the insurance card etc. It split her forehead clear across. She was found about 45mins later in the back seat by a car passing by & saw her bloody hands pawing at the window trying to get out! The police said that no one went to her car because it was quite a bit further up from the major pile. We wanted to thank the good samaritan but he never gave his name. Follow up: 25 years later a man joined our group (The Tucson Mountain Men) and during a discussion at one of our functions after talking about a member's car accident he mentioned the one that he came upon in 1970. It was my mom's!!

I always thought Volvo were the safest car, here is why - I had a friend that got hit head on by a drunk driver doing 50. It was at the crest of a hill on a bridge, so there was no warning. The drunk driver was on the wrong side of the road. My friend was in a Volvo. The other guy didn't make it, but the Volvo saved her life - albeit she broke every bone in her body from the neck down, but the people who extracted her from the wreck said it was a miracle she lived. She had extensive surgeries, but recovered with full mobility, went on to get married and have kids. If I had tithe money, I would buy a volvo, but I like the car i have now - VW TIQUAN. Its a pretty nice car but didn't do so hot on one of the crash tests (the crash they test for at the front right or left corner). I was surprised VW allowed that. It does feel pretty heavy for a light SUV, and it's pretty fast. I like it a great deal.

It was a machine shop, but when things were slow he had me maintain them, clean them and detail them. I guess I did such a good job I was the go-to guy for that kind of work. I didn't mind, it kept me out of the filth of the machine shop. I didn't appreciate the Caddies much back then because I was into muscle cars (still am) but have to admit my favorite was the '76' Coupe DeVille, with the 500 engine. Absolutely beautiful car Alex. I love old cars. Have owned many over the years. I miss the way they ride and handle. Moving the wheel like that to steer them. You should keep the original carb if you can. Even if you don't use it, it will add to the car to have the original with it if you ever sell. I enjoy your videos and the kindness you show everyone you deal with. You treat people with dignity and respect and you keep your word. An old fashioned car for an old school man. Perfect!

Safe? If it has any seatbelts at all, they were installed aftermarket. No crumple zones, no collapsible steering column, no padded dash. Old cars, even Cadillacs were death traps compared to any modern car.

You found a gem with low miles and not abused, best buy for sure.
I bought a 1966 De Ville in 1997 and drove it every day for 6 years all over Texas. Was original paint, also a 4-door like yours, excellent build quality. Only replaced the tires and exhaust system & regular tune-up during this time. Never broke down on the road.
Cadillac up to 1975 were great cars, last good engine IMO was 472 cc.
Had several Caddie's in the past, not cheap on gas but great comfort & dependable, what more can you ask for ?
Keep it, they don't build like this anymore, thanks for sharing the story and lovely previous owner taking a drive around town with her.

When I was 10 (1969) my parents bought a '64 sedan de Ville, looks like the same color as this one. My mom especially wanted it since she'd grown up during the Depression era, and Cadillac was synonymous with wealth (they were both school teachers!! Lol!). In about 1972, while stopped behind a water truck, a kid in a late '60's Camero swerved around the truck and hit us head-on. It knocked us back 4 feet. I received a whiplash and it ruined the front end, but eventually it was repaired. I only remember driving it once, because it was traded in for a new one (1974). I spent many mornings sitting in that car in the dark in the driveway listening to the radio as I waited for my ride to school. The water pump had blown and the block had cracked. I wished at the time we could have kept it. It really was quality built and it did indeed ride smooth and quiet. I've been in a Rolls a time or two since as a car hauler, and I'd pick a '64 Caddy over a Rolls any day of the week and twice on Sunday!! Thanks for the post!

My grandparents had a beautiful black Caddy with white interior. Once when I was with them a guy ran a red light and hit us. I was probably 6 years old and barely felt it. I remember, because of the force, that I slid out of my seat onto the floor and that was probably due more to the fact that they had plastic seat covers. I remember the seat covers had gold stars! I guess the gold stars must have been considered a real look in 1964!!

That car is such a luxury vehicle, and its personality IS you, Alex. If you were trying to sell it, that was a great commercial. The new carb will probably cure that last glitch. My grandparents always had Cadillacs or Olds. I remember riding in a car like this one as a child and noticing the difference in how it felt compared to others. And I agree although the Rolls Royce had more floor space (as a kid again) to play, really no difference in how it felt on the road. Who says kids aren't aware of things at a young age?

I learned to drive in these large cars and had a lot of respect for the quality. Highway cruisers, they handled like they were on rails. Gasoline was cheap, options like this car is equipped with were not so common, and air conditioning in cars was becoming a common item. I noticed that this Cadillac was not optioned with a/c.

I also found a’64 DeVille. It was given to me by a customer. Mine had climate control and automatic headlights as well as bright dim feature. Two separate systems. Cruise control power trunk. Awesome driver. Became the family car. Safe fast smooth and comfortable. My only grouse is that sometimes the automatic headlights failed to turn off. The settings were 30-90 seconds. I learned the hard way to make sure they turned off.
The last year for lighted fins. First year for turbo (overbuilt) transmission. These cars were built as the standard of the world. One of the few cars of the day that could be trusted for 200K miles. You have a real find. Don’t let go of it.
