As someone who’s into different genres, I enjoyed this album especially at first listen when you don’t know what you’re gonna get. Blues is definitely a favorite as for years I believed that Solar definitely sounds good on jazz, blues or soul and she finally released one. I fell in love with Empty when I heard it first in acapella when she sang a snippet at a talking lyrics interview and it’s a song close to my heart. I loved it in every iteration. Easy Peasy is such a comfort song. One of my favorite songs from her is Bluebird from the Run On OST and her voice is like a warm hug after long and arduous day and it is still evident in this song albeit more cutesy than Bluebird. When the album released I listened to it after a long, difficult, and exhausting day at work and I literally cried when Easy Peasy came on. Honey Honey is a grower for me. I think there’s too much happening with the instrumentation and Solar sounds best with stripped back accompaniment because her voice is an instrument in itself. Would love to see a reaction to the rest of FACE.
I agree with your comments on the Honey Honey instrumentals. I usually find myself not enjoying Lyre songs because of their sound. I also agree that the songs should have been longer because I just need more Solar honestly.
But overall I’m glad she showed so much versatility in this mini album. Each song was a different genre and she sounded different in each track.
I would love to see your reaction to her Face album. She released a video that has live performances for each track so that would be fun.
yea, I agree with you on the length and development of the songs in this album... its like you were just getting hyped/engrossed/enjoying the song and/or lyrics itself, then the song gets intto the "wrap-up" part. so the only thing I could do was to just repeat the whole album on its on, just repeat and repeat and repeat. lol. Blues was a love on first listen. But I, Honey Honey, Empty, Easy Peasy grows on me. Colors is just a song that I cannot help but vibe with it whenever its on!
Spot on about Easy Peasy. It's a song for when a day is harder for no particular reason, its just how life gets sometimes.
This album is two minutes longer than her Face EP weirdly
Blues is far and away the best and I really hope when she's doing it in concert she does an extended version (by the way, did you catch the Mic drop at the end?). After that it varies a lot depending on how I think about it. But I was not a favorite at first, but I've come around to it and I think it's second. Colors is either third or last. I get bored with the repetition just as a song, but with the video it is so much fun. Honey Honey and Empty are basically tied for eith 3rd of 4th. I wish she had a pure rap song but I do enjoy the rap bits in Honey Honey (I also choose to let my dirty mind run rampant with the lyrics in a way that I don't think Solar meant). Easy Peasy is just too cutesy for me. Honey Honey would be too except for the things I noted.
I agree with you about the short songs trend. Which is why I was so pleased with Btob Hyunsik's last cb The Young Man and the Deep Sea. Have you reacted to that yet? Really good ep.
To be fair, I also wasn't vibing with Honey Honey at first, then i found myself humming honey honey the rest of the day 😅. But Blues was a definite favourite at the first note whilst Easy Peasy is such a comfort song, especially when I learned what the lyrics say.
Everything solar does is awesome but Blues is definitely my favorite. You missed the mic drop at the end. I saw a video of her doing it live at a promotion, and yeah her live doing Blues is as incredible as would be expected. Definitely my favorite and I agree I wish Solar would add just a bit more time to each song. This is why Solar is not just my bias in mamamoo, she is my favorite living singer and Blues is one of the many reasons.
