  • Why most people fail at street photography, it's not the Leica's, lenses or gear but rather something deeper that every photographer is guilty of doing in the past. In this episode I give you my lesson on how to succeed in your photography ventures!

Great insight. I totally agree! I was guilty before with waiting for the inspiration or the right timing on when to shoot. However it just held me back. A great quote I recently came across was 'You don't take a photograph, you MAKE it'. This hit me hard. Haha a lot of times we just got to go out there even if we don't feel like it. Focus on enjoying the process. Thank you for this awesome video!

Another great video man! I abided by the same principles when I started shooting digital a couple years ago. Have spent the last couple years grinding it out, shooting some events just to get the practice. Have racked up some serious miles on my mirrorless cameras but have gotten some great paid work. And of course had a lot of fun. I am enjoying “starting over” with film, as well as the time to slow down and really think before creating. Hoping to put the time in with film now and be just a s successful.

Great video and advice! I went out and got an SD1000 after watching your vid on it! I now take it with me everywhere and MAKE photos each day. I Tell myself I have to post one photo to insta each day! This has helped me so much, and don't worry about taking my big portrait camera out with me. Thanks!

    Enjoy your vids immensely.
I shoot to satisfy my need to create art. My art may not be someone else's idea of art. I do not shoot to satisfy others. If others like my art, that is great. I am not a street photographer per se, but I enjoy shooting street photography, as well as landscapes, abstracts, architecture, and general urban photography. I am my own worst critic, because I only shoot for myself. I consider myself a "strolltographer." I look for beauty in the mundane, and often overlooked.
I have tremendous appreciation for those who solely focus on creating great street photos. You all inspire me daily to improve my vision/ability to "see" through a lens.

It’s interesting that you talk about failing and having bad photos, and good photos, and so on. The way I see it is that you’re over complicating something that is really quite simple. It should stay that way. I do street photography solo. Maybe I take good photos, maybe I don’t. I don’t care either way. I take photos of things people take for granted and often overlook.

You can't 'fail' at an art medium. Street photography is a subjective artform. You're failures aren't the same as Martin Parr's. Martin's failures aren't the same as Garry Winogrands.

You must have bad days… yes, that is very true not only in what the images are like from a day out shooting but, also there will be days where you can get a little too close to your subject, and get manhandled as a result.
That has happened to me in the past, and happened today too… I got a little too close to a groups of anti-vaccs in Glasgow and was grabbed from behind.
This idiot wanted to know why I was taking his picture and he had tried to remove my mask… I was okay and went on my way putting this down to experience.
So yes, you need to keep taking pictures good and bad, to learn from what you do wrong… and right. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If people have no vision and at least a little bit of talent, doesn't matter how many hours, days or years they put in, the result will be mostly mediocre cliches and that stands for every kind of creativity. That's the reason some are well-known, legends and some are known but a few and are totally unknown but could be legends. (Vivian Maier) or Van Gogh who sold only one of his paintings in his life, now one of his sketches could cost millions. Go figure how taste and snobbism change in the art world. If some rich guy buys one of your images for 1 million, tomorrow you would be the best street photographer in the world.
