3First of all, I'm happy you found someone. I hope that she's really the one for you and treats you the way you deserve. I'm just going to be honest. I did cry. I had a day. And that gave me the last push I needed to just say what I needed to. I've been procrastinating far too long. I finally felt what you must have felt in some way having to watch me with Mike and have kids... for years. And that made me feel sorry too. Sorry that I moved so quickly like we didn't matter. I truly can only imagine the pain it must have caused back then. I wish that I could take all that pain back.
I have held on to such guilt in how we ended and the days leading up to the end. I have said previously I accept what I did but I don't think I fully did. Until the last year. When I finally grew up. Though we didn't make it I feel like you deserve to know that I've never been treated better by anyone. Hind sight now, but I enjoyed every bit of time I got with you AND your family. I loved you and them with every fiber of my being. I'm so grateful that we co parent so well and our son is so loved not that there was any doubt about that. I still have love and care for you. Um.. the awkward part to get out is my feelings have been very complex. It's been hard for the last 5 years to be in the same room as you. I've felt inferior to you. Or felt that you felt that way.. and I still have some reserve of feeling for you. I think after this conversation I'll be able to finally close off that chapter that never could have re opened anyway. But I wholeheartedly want to apologize. For a lot of things. I'm sorry that I could never truly own up. You felt cheated. And while I kept saying no I didn't... I think it's time to admit that emotionally I clearly had. I was mentally gone before I lost you physically and that's an awful thing to carry around for so long. I'm sorry. I should have told you then how I was feeling and that I was soaking up attention from someone else. And I also want to apologize for the time that I went back and forth. I feel like that's where a huge part of the pain I caused comes from. When I found out I was pregnant with Elliott you were willing to take me back. You opened your arms to me and I strung you along and went back and forth ultimately hurting you more. And you never deserved that. Ever. And I'm sorry. I do stand by some of that being guilt. Knowing Elliott wasn't yours and having to face your family was gonna be hard for me. Instead of doing the hard thing and facing them... I chose to run. And that hurt everyone even more. No amount of sorry can make up for how that must have felt. And I couldn't even be up front or honest or face you. And that's really shitty. I'm sorry.
I never should have done that to you. Never should have done that to your family. Because you don't do that to people you care about. Those are the three huge things that have made me feel like I'm inferior. I've never fully owned up to all the hurt I caused ESPECIALLY in those times. For a long time I had hoped that we would find our way back, but I accepted that could never be. We can't change the past. We can't reverse time, but we can learn. We can change. We can own up and apologize and move on. And I hope that this will serve as some closure for us both or at least be what I need to forgive myself. Because you never deserved the pain I caused you. Sorry may not fix it, but it's a start.

This song reflects a lot of what us war Veterans actually feel from signing the dotted line. At least the consequences to entering the dark side as this band states. We are used until no longer of use due to mentally being unstable after witnessing countless deaths, miserable environments, corruption, and then the physical damage. Great song and band.
