    I made one sililar. I used the valve from an old Bic lighter and fit it inside the threaded part of a ball inflator needle that I removed the needle from and aslo used an old soda can bottom for the reflector. If you drill the hole first you can chuck it into a drill using a screw and some nuts and polish it with some comlound and the drill. Works great.

      Next time you have time to run it, can you doc a few things and post, if possible?
      1) weight of fuel used
      2) burn time
      3) highest temp of the reaction chamber
      When I dropped enough pellets in my candle I made, I was worried about melting the chamber. But it's nothing more than a plastic bottle with a needle out of it. So I was curious as to how hot the reaction chamber with the nozzle attached will get while emitting a decent flame

    what is keeping the flame from flashback igniting inside the tank and blowing up?

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 4 lety

      Three things, a lack of oxygen in the body. The tiny office makes flashback difficult, steel wool behind the orifice will absorb heat from a flame front to extinguish it

    • @ARCSTREAMS
      @ARCSTREAMS Před 4 lety

      @@ElementalMaker ahh yes i almost forgot that you packed it with wool,,but they say to use ss wool for this instead,but at the start there is air(ie enough oxy) in the body ,do you have to wait for that to vent out once the ace is being produced and creating pressure before you light it even though it has a small orifice perhaps this is a wise move no? ,,also what happens if the tank is inverted due to falling and the two chambers mix up? and last did you consider using a very small mig gun tip instead or is the hole of .024 still too big? ,merry christmas

    How is it burning so clean when acetylene gives off lots of soot, is it because there is still enough air in the carbide chamber that is being mixed with the gas?

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 5 lety

      I think that because of the flame velocity, it mixes better with air and burns more completely, converting the usual soot (carbon) into co2

      No worries, I wouldn't call that a mess up. Perhaps just a little brain fart LOL. I appreciate the kind words!

    Very cool! Next project, how about trying to build a small sabatier generator to make liquid methanol from CO2 and H2. That is, or was, a plan for a Mars lander, it would sit on Mars and over a few months make enough rocket fuel to ascend back into orbit to dock with the mother ship

      That would be badass! Definitely something I want to try for in a future video. Don't have the materials right not for something like that though. I bookmarked the Wikipedia page and will hopefully be able to do something like that soon!

      Its called an automatic center punch. They are dirt cheap on amazon. This is the one I got. Its a whopping $2.75 or so. amzn.to/2MdKIZm (affiliate link)

    Sure that you found you need a tiny air hole in the top tank so no vacuum lock of your drip.... only thing I would worry about is the plastic melting.... you could run your output anywhere with copper tube run it up you could use that paint can lid

    The metal wool should also help keep any splashed calcium carbonate from clogging the nozzle.

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 5 lety

      That it should! Ill be replacing the standard steel wool with stainless or brass wool, since normal steel wool will degrade very quickly in the environment of the reaction vessel.

    Teflon tape on the brass threads would also tend to act as a thermal break between the brass and the PVC. Teflon is used in 3D printers for the "hotend" for this purpose.

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 5 lety

      Solid idea. I just used some thread dope, but ill swap it out for some Teflon.

    Great video and build!
    You have a PVC fitting plug, male adapter, female adapter, and PVC pipe cap, so you did pretty well at identifying them.
    P.S. Steel wool will burn, should we use copper wool instead?
    About "resistance to being drilled," my wife has the same problem, how do we cure that issue? LOL!

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 5 lety +2

      I just dont know how to fix that issue Robert. It would probably involve a lot more psychological work than I can comprehend. Maybe we can just hypnotize them! LOL Thanks for verifying the components. I'm sure copper wool would also work. The best would probably be stainless wool, I need to get some off amazon.

    Use a pie 10 for your reflector Mark the center and then make one cut from the outer edge to the center then you can shape it into a cone whatever angle you'd like

    What the gases from that flame are they bad to breath in?

    • @ElementalMaker
      @ElementalMaker  Před 5 lety

      The main products of combustion are water and CO2. Of course some lampblack (carbon) is also produced from incomplete combustion, which is the soot you can see. Some CO will also be generated.

      ElementalMaker well thats pretty awesome so other than sealed up confined spaces its pretty safe other than the open flame and explosion possibility 😃
