    Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

I agree with the dude asking for more info on Suppressors! We need more suppressor info! I have too much hearing loss as it is. I've made a new rule for myself. No new rifles if it does not have a threaded barrel! My ears (and that of my son who is my hunting buddy) are thanking me for that. Suppressors are a vital part of our hunting equipment! It is so much safer on the ears of those around and it causes less disturbance on game and neighbors! Lets see what you've got Ron!

Ready to have your mind blown? Straight pull bolt actions are actually the predecessor to the most common semi-auto rifles, the AR-15. In fact, if you shut the gasblock off, an AR becomes a straight-pull bolt action.

First focal plane or second? Each have their place. I recommend a first focal plane for long range such as competition or long range varmints. Second focal plane for most other hunting applications such as whitetail.

For the guy who drew the Utah elk tag, Norma bondstrike ammo has been unbelievably good in my experience. For the guy that was asking about the 264 load data. I think it is the way it is because those were the available powders when it came out. It fell off in popularity before a lot of the slow magnum powders hit the market, so there was never any new data worked up with them. This is just my opinion, but it is the only reason I can think of. As for loading the 264, the book data leaves a lot of performance on the table. I won’t give any of my personal charge weights, but it takes some of the slowest burning powders to get the best results. Reloader 33, US869, and VV24N41 are all in the burn rate I’m talking about. Work the load up like it’s a wildcat. It’s fairly easy to get 140 grain bullets going 3200+ FPS by doing this. Use caution and go slowly.

I like 1st focal plane for the exact reason of your hunting example. For me 1 mil is 1 mil no matter the power settings. So im always on and will hit. Once going through sniper school and getting familiar with this type of scope thiers no turning back. Much easier to hit and less chance of mistakes

  • @JimmyJusa
    @JimmyJusa Před měsícem +2

For the 264 win mag I would assume the lower volume of the barrel compared to a wider caliber would lend to pressure sooner. Case shape and how deep the bullet is designed to sit into the case are additional factors with both powder type and also how much.

For off hand shooting, I strongly recommend a monopod, bipod, or better yet a tripod. Not useful for fast running shots, but great otherwise.

12:05 this is an interesting use of the term ‘circle of confusion’ which is actually a term to describe the resolving power of a lens. I’m not surprised by your use of this term, though, as you are also an avid photographer. Although I don’t think this is the correct use of the term, it does seem to work well to get the point across.

Donald Gambler in Maryland has made my sheaths for my leatherman, he makes phenomenal products and is very rugged. I’ve gifted them to my family members who also have knifes and leatherman on their hip. My first one lasted 15 years or so with heavy use and is still good today but I liked the supple texture and look of his bison leather ones.

I think its funny that some people want very short videos. I'm sure they have very valid reasons for it, however, can't you just pause the video at any time and return to it later? I genuinely feel like a longer run time fills the need of more listeners. At any rate, we all appreciate the experience and insight and we thank you for putting the videos together. Cheers from Idaho!

... having Remington under Federals guidance in ammo making is a good thing as is having Marlin rifle manufacturing under Ruger guidance ... the recently produced Remington brand ammo does seem to be of consistently higher quality and accuracy than the pre-bankruptcy Remington ammo

I feel like your rational for three shot groups being sufficient for a hunting rifle doesn’t really make sense. Appropriate group size to assess realistic MOA capability has nothing to do with how many shots you are anticipating putting on target (setting aside concerns for barrel heating).
The point is that three shot groups just don’t provide enough statistical significance to determine whether or not the gun is truly MOA.
You went on to note that multiple three shot groups would probably be sufficient, which sure, it probably is, as that’s giving you the equivalent of a 10-15 shot group.
Hornady’s video series on this does a good job explaining why individual three shot groups can really steer people in the wrong direction about the capability of their rifle.

I lost my first Leatherman to a ladyfriend who needed a screwdriver in the kitchen the next Morning. She remembered I had one in a pouch on my pants belt and, lightly fingered it out while I was still sleeping. Later I woke up and smelled the coffee, dressed and wandered into the kitchen where I actually saw it laying on the counter and remarked I one just like it. And she replied, "That is yours. I borrowed it." And then I wandered away without it.

10 shot groups test the consistency of MATCH ammo where every point counts. 3 shot groups provide a quick confirmation of what the rifle and ammo can do, but are NOT an accurate representation of what you should expect. 5 shot groups do a much better job of showing the variation you can expect from a specific load out of your rifle.
