I really love that each choice of weapon in Dive to the Heart gives you a little something extra for picking it.
- Power of the Mystic gives you another MP Bar
- Power of the Guardian gives you another Item Slot
- Power of the Warrior gives you another reason to choose the other two
Maybe it should give you an extra combo plus or maybe even a combo boost. Just to have its bonus mean something.
@@sjames551 A longer reach with every Keyblade would be hella cool perhaps.
The only thing that sucks about Sword Path is the late Lucky Strikes. 7 item slots is workable, and having combat abilities earlier is not too bad.
I love the fact that you mix comedy in with your video, most good players are just dull. You deserve more credit!
RegularPat: “So here’s the deal: We’re gonna kill Peter Pan.”
Captain Hook: “…go on…”
FYI, Stop upgrades don't enhance it's duration time, only MP does. Stopra and Stopga only increase its range
In the words of Ansem the Wise, I'm a fool. Thank you for the heads up lol
Stop's duration is max MP+2 seconds. so 10 MP will cause the target to be halted for 12 seconds providing the enemy does not have resistance.
I remember seeing a Malifecent cheese where the guy just used a full MP bar of stop and hit her once, is there any truth to this?
@@VixdadKeyhart It wasn't only Stop. It was Stop and Gravity. Gravity does a percentage of the health bar, but it alone cannot kill an enemy. So, what they did was squeeze the life out of her Dragon form, and take out the last hit point with a single hit.
Just in case it isn’t mentioned in the comments here. So long as you have the fully leveled Areo spell, if you ever get hit by the ‘Submit’ move from the guardian cast it on your self and you are completely invulnerable to it. It also auto deflects the changing rush move Ansem pulls off.
Basically, fully upgraded Areo trivializes 2nd Ansem.
Another tip for the baton boy from wonderland: You can cast blizzard on the grill below the stove to stop him from lighting his batons.
Holy shit! Even MORE little details. This is why KH1 is still the best.
25:00 There is a strategy to greatly mitigate the pain of Oogie's Manor Fight. You can target the dark orbs and use triangle to sic your allies on them and they will take it down to 1 HP without breaking them.
It's actually possible to run out of range of the very first fight, activating EXP Zero soon enough that Goofy also stays at level one.
Correction to this, it's the first fight after the pause screen tutorial
Fun fact, for the the trio fight on Destiny Islands, if you switch target before parrying Wakka’s ball, you deflect the ball at either Selphie or Tidus. Figured this out very late on but gotta admit, its fun as fuck pelting them all with Wakkas ball lolol
Dude, you're a saint. It takes time to make something like this just to help people, and I respect the shit out of that.
I don't have any plans to do a Level 1 run of KH1, but I've watched this video multiple times. The way you talk is just, so perfect to listen too. One of the best vids on the platform.
This is one of the most amazing things ive stumbled on in the kh lvl 1 community!! Wow brings new life to the game i will definitely be following your guide in the future!! Very throughout and easy to follow. Doing gods work
Dude, you did amazing work here. I beat ansem yesterday, thanks to your guide. It helped me a lot in this challenge
Recently discovered some of your videos. Enjoying your timing/delivery on a lot of this, it's really entertaining.
Also, this is impressive. I am impressed.
Watched this video in one go...did not disappoint 😂
As much of a hardcore fan as I am I think I would always prefer doing a 100% run to a lvl. 1 run but man it's so cool how thought out all your strategies are! Great video!
I've beaten KH1 level 1 twice yet I'm watching this anyway lol very good video! Subbed!
tinker bell is honestly my favourite summon in the game. she was a great help during the dragon-maleficent fight and the wave of heartless just before the final rest in the end of the world.
i just finished my first level 1 run and ir eally should've used tinker bell more. i only used her on kurt zisa lmao
@@voltricity1942 I can’t do level 1 run personally. I don’t have the patience for it personally lol
yeah i get that. some parts especially get super frusterating. some walls for me was clayton, leon + yuffie in the pegasus cup, the first ursala fight, lock shock and barrel, ice titan, and sephiroth. though i will be honest it wasn't quite _as_ bad as i thought it was going to be. magic and summons are pretty powerful so you definitely have to use that to your advantage@@BrennySpain
Clayton is so unfair. They really expect you to fight a gun with a key sword.... I just....
I liked and subbed, it not only was an incredibly great and detailed video that’s currently helping me now, but it has some very funny moments from the awesome commentator of yourself. Very well done, thank you!
Just here to give two pieces of advice I found during my own level 1 run that may help some people.
First: During the Ursula fight, don’t actually spam magic at the cauldron. Apparently there’s a time frame that prevents magic from working on it in quick succession. So cast fire or blizzard once, dodge Ursula and the eels for a few seconds, then cast magic again. This makes it more consistent to blow up the cauldron and will save you a lot of MP.
Second (the big one): Ansem-Riku gave me so much trouble, I started looking up strategies to beat him. Found a video by sonicshadowsilver2 that casts magic on him which makes him use dark firaga. You can actually deflect this at him for damage. Riku will retaliate and you can dodge then cast fire again to repeat the process. Knowing this I went through the entire fight repeating this cycle, using Ars Arcanum when I’m at about 3MP (does more hits than however much magic I could use), popping an elixir, then repeating. You can also trade out Ars for Sonic Blade to save MP for cure but Ars gets more hits in so pick your poison there. It takes forever, but you can get through the whole fight - even phase 2 - by repeating this. You’ll get sick of Riku saying “Foolish Boy,” but it can get you through quite a bit if you’re struggling, especially if you have as much magic as you can get by that point. Just keep in mind to not do anything while he’s blocking, you can get a few combos when he powers up to get a bit more magic use, and you still have to learn to dodge his attacks (but at least you have more space to dodge them with this).
that simba strat for the end of the world 2 worked reall good against these annoying enemies, you made an outstanding guide, and it's like the only guide on youtube as well! great stuff man!
Posting in 2024 here, doing my
Level 1 proud mode most completion possible, and the Simba strategy for the end of the world II was a LIFE SAVER. I was able to activate him and completely wipe it all of the remaining rounds with the tiniest sliver of bar left to do a full charge to FINALLLLLYYYYY get to Final Rest. Thank you very much
This video is AWESOME, and super well informed and organized, like all of your videos. I'm using it to help me through my run and it's proving to be really useful. I will say though, after struggling with Clayton forever, definitely /not/ to tears, I found it a lot easier to just pummel sneak to death first and then get to Clayton. Got it in one try that way. But I could have just gotten lucky I guess. Sneak would always just snipe and kill me from afar while dealing with Clayton
I have absolutely no intention of ever doing one of these runs, but these guides are still great viewing. If nothing else, it's really entertaining to hear this clear, rational, well-set-out advice from someone who just knows what he's talking about.
Of cause Donald is our boy. He has always a place in our hearts. #Zettaflare
The smear campaign that this poor duck has undergone over the past 17 years is absolute malarkey. The masses have sold their souls for a cheap meme. He's a saint!!
Just recently discovered your channel man and i've been stuck on the lion head boss on a lvl one run for a few months now. This guide has helped out a lot i'm now at the end of the world.
I have watched this video like 56 times now. One of the BEST CZcams videos ever made. Of any type of video, literally.
'Goofy is just holding all our drugs for us' I fucking cackled hahah
In Ansem 2, you can cast Aeroga on yourself, and he bounces off of you when he attempts to charge you
Wow this is by far the best gameplay advice I've ever found, the Ansem fight is currently kicking my level 51 ass and this will help immensely.
1:04:25 Just want to add a tidbit to the Diamond Dust, if you are stuck in the middle, you can flee towards the back corner of the arena (closest to your camera). DD can't strike that far, just remember to dodge the snowball. This method has the bonus of not requiring him to turn at all and avoiding the entire transition step between casts.
Someone else may have mentioned this already but regarding Sephiroth: he retaliates after either seven hits /or/ four hits in a row; another option (that's probably only safe for first phase) is to do a single hit before every full air combo. This can be good because it can make the fight more predictable - you won't get countered after a single hit every three combos and you'll never be open for a retaliation if you punish the second phase transition since his retaliation counter will always be at zero. It can also be bad because his retaliation can be flame pillars, and if he does flame pillars in response to an aerial finisher you're probably not going to be able to dodge roll in time. Expect to use a lot of Cure if you go this route.
Decent video started the challenge yesterday and so far so good currently on the “not Clayton” boss fight, found an easier way to do Leon so when he jumps as soon as his feet hit the ground do a 2 hit combo he should back off then you jump away & it’ll get him in a endless loop of jumping towards you, rather happy I didn’t waste any potions or items but wicked video Kingdom Hearts has always been a favourite of mine so going back on level 1 is interesting 👌🏻
I'll never attempt this, ever, but the video was well put together and the commentary was well worth the watch.
I about broke my controller doing Pride the first time on KHs1.5.
This is a really well-made video! There's a few errors, but who cares, it's an awesome video. Here are some quick notes:
Dumbo does not deal damage to Riku 1. Dumbo's damage is blizzard-based, which Riku is immune to.
Spamming Triangle on Genie reduced the amount of orbs he throws. Not incorrect, just a little wasteful.
As someone else mentioned, Stop's upgrades increase range, not duration. MP and Damage Storage does increase duration however!
Aerora/ga does massive damage with Damage Storage active, so keep that in mind when you play :)
Hades Time Trial is impossible without stat increases, which kind of nullifies the point of Level 1 anyway, so yeah.
Great video my guy!
Was stuck in a hospital parking lot and was listening to this and ended up falling asleep. While not the original intention you were going for this video helped in another way. Have a subscription from me. Thank you.
I just finished my first level 1 run of kingdom hearts and this video was so helpful. Much love ❤
Jumping while using genie will make more of his shots hit the behemoth.
This was great!!! Like u said it’s not speed run straits but it really helps i remember how much i struggled with Clayton my first time on lvl 1 and this would have helped Sm
I love the video. And I want to add to Donald being a great healer. I never beat the first game when I first got it on ps2. So my happiness came to me when I finally beat it a few weeks ago. I was low leveled fighting the final fight on Ansem and I was tired. I got impatient and Ansem kept hitting me into critical. Donald...my main friend Donald...healed me a total of 6 TIMES and I got the final hit ending the game.
He’s a useful healer and always will be.
I found this video completely by accident, and I actually watched the entire thing. And now I'll never not hear "Steve Harvey" when I fight Sephiroth, so thanks for that.
I saw a strategy a guy used for Clayton. He did everything you did until Clayton got knocked off Stealth Sneak. Once he gets knocked off, he goes back to where you spawn from the cutscene and goes on top of the higher cliff. He waits there and lets Tarzan and Goofy fight Stealth Sneak. Clayton will jump in the air until he gets on the cliff with you. He then stun spams him while staying on the cliff with 2 hit combos. If Stealth Sneak also gets on the cliff, he gets off and does everything again. That's how I won too, it just takes a little more time but you're in safety as long as you don't let Clayton recover.
Great video I left a comment on another video that may have come out before this video because I’m watching all your videos now as I see them come up but your content is great I hope you blow up soon (not that 6k subs is small time or anything) I think you have potential for being in the 100k plus though
A small thing I recently learned about equipping EXP Zero for level 1 runs is that you can actually keep Goofy at level 1. When fighting shadows in the Dive to the Heart, don't actually fight them; run across to the opposite end of the platform. Keep rapidly pressing the pause button until you can open the menu, equip EXP Zero, and then finish the shadows fight.
(There's really no point to doing this over the normal way since one level up for Goofy isn't going to matter in the grand scheme of things but I think it's neat.)
As someone who's platinumed KH1, but still loves the game, I might pick up lvl 1 runs and dip my toe into speedrunning to get every ounce of content from KH1
I am coming here to vent during my first Level 1 playthrough. I died to Clayton 46 times and I am also stuck as fuck on the final mob gauntlet before Final Rest. I am suffering.
But fantastically made and insanely helpful video as usual
I’m currently playing on proud mode and am up to deep jungle and must say I feel the difference, so far got one continue and lost to Cloud in the Coliseum tournament which I usually never do so proud mode is a new fun thing for me since I’m not used to it
This is a actually a top tier guide. Stealth sneak was the bane of my existence as a kid. Always got blind sighted by him when trying to kill Clayton. I might give a level 1 another go! Might be interesting.
Yeah, this boss is a pain to beat x)
After him though, it's better with cure unlocked.
Did die a lot because when Sneak is revealed, i was having some hard time to dodge his energy attack that follows you. Well to be fair it's been really long since i've played the game and i've started in proud mode + not changing any equip + not using any continue (to gain those two trophy x) so yeah, of course i would have a hard time. I've only beat him today, pretty recently too xD
Fun fact: Most people who've either played Union X or been curious and looked more into it already know this, but the machine in the Hollow Bastion World Terminus is called the ARK. The ARK is a random thing that served absolutely no purpose except a cool little enigma in the cannon of the series and also something that no one remembers until they go back and replay KHI for some inexplicable reason. However, when Kingdom Hearts X was rebooted as Unchained X and eventually Union X, this machine made a return. It is seen in the clock tower of Daybreak Town, presumably in a basement somewhere. The being known as Darkness leads Maleficent there, where it explains that the ARK can be used to do one of two things: A. Transport oneself from the digital to the real world, and vice-versa, OR B. Travel through time. Darkness also elaborates at Maleficent's request, starting that the reason it can't do both at the same time is because it was never finished. At some point Lauriam stumbles in, and though he is a prodigy with the Keyblade, apparently Sora is even better than Lauriam, considering they are the same age at this point (14 years old), because while Sora can kill Maleficent, Lauriam gets his just desserts for breaking the hearts of twenty too many fangirls by not existing in the real world and winds up unconscious on the floor. At this point, we haven't seen it again so far, though I expect it will be making a return (coughbotchedARKattemptbyNewForetellerscough). That sums up everything we know about the ARK. (Oh also Kairi's been in it. No idea why. Thank you, Melody of Memory, for giving us that completely random cameo of this thing.)
i've found that you can avoid the "Submit!" possession damage by getting Freeze'd, but that may only be on lower difficulties
Thank you so much for making this guide with out it I don't think I'd be able to beat it at level 1 I figured out what I had to do was get Royal Crown to beat those waves of heartless before the final door I still have yet to do Hades cup and the secret bosses I do appreciate you making this video
I BEAT THE TIDUS WAKKA SELPHIE EXTRA BOSS!!! I just began my lv1 proud mode for the first time. I needed that to build up my confidence.
Hey I just beat Monstro on lvl 1 attempting this for the first time, what are the odds.
I tried doing it without items (I did it for KH2FM and it was fine) but after losing to Tidus, Selphie and Wakka for literally an hour and a half I decided this was altogether a different beast and then beat up Riku for a full suite of potions.
God that fight made me so (sea)salty. Also Riku will begin doing the back up roll kick thing after every hit once he gets low enough on health, something that killed me a couple times until I realised what was happening.
Also hot tip I found out while doing research for my run is that you don't have to pick all or two of the bottom choices for your exp level curve. The first fight with shadows after it that usually levels you if you don't pick bottom choices can actually be lead to one side of the platform and you can run to the other side and briefly access you menu and equip exp zero.
This has the lovely benefit of making Goofy (plus disney boys) level 1 as well, and noticing he was level 2 just before Clayton is what caused me to look up if there was a way to have that not be. Turns out there was and that was it, so I ended up restarting my run lol.
Also for Cave of Wonders, if you tolerate the scene skipping you get to start the fight a bit closer to big boy and if you fast roll quickly, jump quickly, hit the back of his left eye and quickly move to his nose, if that works he won't immediately shake over and over and instead stay still for bit leading to slightly easier combos to start with. I don't know why that works but it do.
Good video, and great timing for me personally lol
Dude I'd been wondering if there was a way to ensure the party members will be 1 instead of 2, that Aurora platform thing is big news to me, makes sense too. I'll have to try out that cave strat too, I'd never have thought to do that lol. (Also yeah TSW on Destiny Islands is complete ass, I really think it's top 10 hardest level 1 fights) Thank you as always for tuning in!
@@RegularPat No problem, also to clarify, the wonders head's right eye, but left from your point of view, I noticed I didn't mention in my comment. I mean idk it might work on both eyes I didn't make this strat lol, me and you both are chilling on the shoulders of giants.
Until like last couple of days I'd completely forgoten Triangle did anything for your party members. I'm sure I knew of it at one point but It had jsut completely slipped my mind lol!
39:25 I’m not sure if this is still a mystery, but it looks to me like Cerberus’ animation just broke and forced it to turn around instantly. Note that your position relative to the stands doesn’t change at all. Love your videos Pat, especially Evolution of Magic. Glad you’re still going :>
36:24 It didn't warp you. what happened is that cerberus turned around without an animation. I think I remember this happened in one of my playthroughs
I just completed my LV1 run, your guide was helpful
I am watching this with no intentions of doing a level one run any time soon, I just think it’s cool to watch.
I made sure everything you did is necessary to me, including the cool guys don't look at explosions part
I’ve never played a level one run of a KH game and I still think this is a fun watch
I love watching your videos even though I’ve already done plenty of level 1 runs!
With Genie, instead of spamming showtime, you should wait a few seconds after his last attack until all his lock on targets appear for max damage! Spamming it before he locks on reduces the amount of times he attacks but still drains your gauge.😅
You should definitely do a KH2 level 1 guide though too! Just because I’ve done it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the breakdown 😄
Also, it helps to jump up on the cliff after you knock Clayton off and then he’ll jump up and you can avoid the stealth sneak entirely while you 2 hit combo him into oblivion!
it's probably been said but for the destiny islands 3v1, if you try to hit wakka's ball back at him but switch targets before sora actually hits it, the ball will magically travel to whoever you locked on to. i know tidus can be stunned by this but selphie doesnt. either way this makes it temporarily a 2v1 which helps a lot. this target switching thing works on a lot of things actually, you can use yuffie's shuriken to stun squall for a bit, the eye lasers from shadow sneak to hit clayton, and the fat agrabah guys' fireballs into whatever other enemies are around
Goofy is going IN on Sabor, and Donald prolly died as soon as he woke back up 🤣
So, I know this is 2 years old and such, but I have an opening strat for the Selphie, Tidus, Wakka fight. I’ve been able to replicate this & you do mention it, but abusing Wakka’s Blitzball tech to stun can be used right from the start.
Run passed Tidus a little, turn around and immediately jump swing to tech the ball directly at Tidus. He’ll be down and you can focus on the other two quickly. As you’ve said, wait for Wakka’s audio cue before jump-swinging. Hope this helps.
Well I learned two things.
1. The soft reset thing with l1 r1 and start.
2. That you can just walk out of a fight so you don't have to watch it again.
I just finished my first lvl 1 run and your guide helped me a lot. Some bosses were pain and some of them were very easy like the early bossfights. Riku 1 was an easy fight but Riku 2 gave me some trouble. I had to learn his movement to find an opening. Ansem was easier than the fight against him on a normal run on proud thanks to mushu :)
The descend heartless angel and Sin Harvest conundrum was mainly for the the Prima strategy guide for this game. In the guide for Sephiroth the writer mistakeningly thought he was saying Sin Harvest when it is in fact Descend Heartless Angel. Most of us old school KH1 masters prefer to say Sin Harvest 😊
Thought I'd come back and do comment on this video now that I went through and beat the challenge with 114 deaths. Honestly had a lot of fun, and will probably try 2FM's level 1 run in the future. Some random points, if anyone reads this.
1. I found out you can get more than one Elixir per haul from Rabbit's garden. The most I got was 2 of them two different times out of a possible 50 or so entire garden pulls. I wager it might even be possible to get 3 or 4 with enough luck.
2. Aeroga significantly helps certain sections of the Ansem fight at the end. Damage storage Aeroga is nothing to sneeze at, and with some good dodging during Ansem II, it melts his health being constantly next to him. The lasers for Artillery are also less of a headache with it.
3. I summoned Tinkerbell during the Invisible wave in Linked Worlds for extra security, generally she helped get me to the next phase, and I always unsummon when there was one invisible left to prep for Simba. Tinkerbell in general works really well as a passive summon for certain fights where other summons aren't as useful. Also Bambi ended up useful during segments like that too, especially some fights where I needed more spell casts like Lock Shock and Barrel, I'm pretty sure damage storage also ensures he drops more of the larger MP balls.
4. Luring Clayton up onto the large cliff and then doing two hit combos to keep him up there significantly helps, even if it'll take 50 hits or so for this to work. There's also a small chance Stealth Sneak gets up there with both of you, but he generally fails the jump.
DId I just watch an hour of this video for a level one run I've never actually thought of running and still wont? yes! did I enjoy it? yes!
During the cloud fight at 38:34 you could also parry his Omni slash attack by just jumping and a basic swing after the sound queue
I remember watching Gamechamp3000’s video on the KH1 level one run, and finding it interesting how most of her tips more or less applied whether you were doing the run or not.
Especially picking the staff over the other weapons in Dive to the Heart. Seriously, the moment you realize how magic scaling works in KH1, you realize that the staff is just objectively the best option.
For conventional runs, picking the shield is usually a decent option because even though you have less mp, you get some of the best abilities earlier, like slapshot, guard, and leaf bracer. For a run like this though, the staff is unquestionably the best choice.
I did linked worlds a bit different. For the first dark ball wave I used mushu to pelt all but one of them down. With one alive, I dismissed mushu and brought out Bambi & finished the last dark ball. This made it so that when the invisibles spawned, they would go after me exclusively which made getting all 6 of them stopped easy. With bambi still prancing about dropping MP like crazy I could spam stop/gravity like mad. The rest was pretty much the same.
Oh boy. This inspired me to do my lvl 1 run again. I think I got to Hallow Bastion and something came up so I stopped.
I'm doing another level 1 run but his time I chose the dream sword. Glad this vid is here cause I forgot like all the strats lol
"You won't get any tech points obviously." I love this consistent joke given they don't even matter.
He pronounces it "Tie-dus" and not "Tee-dus".. I wish I had more likes to give
Been following along for awhile; started my first ever Level 1 Playthrough for the 20th anniversary US release. Here's the kicker with my extra restrictions though:
Only the OG weapons. We are sticking with the classics of Kingdom Key, Mage's Staff and Knight's Shield.
And the big one: Picking sword. Yup.
So far I've made it to Monstro in about a day or so. I actually have the same amount of magic you do right now funnily enough as I went a bit out my way to easily pick up a magic armlet so it's not all that different. Yet. :P
Unless Gamechamp and others have lied to me you can also activate a damage glitch by doing Sora's three hit combo which will store it and add(or multiply) the damage output of your spells meaning you reduce the chances of you getting hurt and maximize damage output since you're still severely handicapped physical attack-wise.
i believe kingdom hearts ddd level 1 is the most ignored. probably bc its the most unfair, broken way to play that game. anyways beautiful video, subbed
I really would try this challenge if No XP gave you Scan. It is a weird thing to whine about but not knowing if my strategy is or isn't working well and not being able to confidently lab out different methods of doing fights kills so much of the joy for me.
Still, I'm amazed at your tenacity and in love with this guide! Super fun to watch as a sort of pseudo-playthrough, weirdly enough. If I ever do try it, this is the video I'll be referencing most!
Thank you! I agree, Scan being built into the later games is a huge improvement
I've played this game so many times and never knew you could just walk out of any of the boss fights
Just beat shot, lock, and barrel and it was haaaard so i changed up my strat. I actually had spellcaster keyblade before Halloween town because i did the phil cup and got gravity and put on an accessory that gave me one more mp so i had six 6 mp. Gave my self ethers and team mega potions. Then i just spammed sonic blade until i ran out of mp and ethers. Then would use it again whenever i did enough combos to have 3 mp. And it actually worked!
Dang, Sonic Blade coming in clutch in KH1! I usually just spam it in ReCoM lol. Love that strat
@@RegularPat i got stuck in that fight so i was like fuck I frames it is and it actually worked lol. I only usedwith spell binder keyblade just because the mp but i feel lime wishing star wouldve worked to since sonicblade usually stuns all them and you could focus on one for a bit and maybe even get crits with it even though the attack really doesnt matter
I love how all the time he says to run and roll for Ansem's ultimate move. Really all you need to do is just keep running. I've never been hit by that attack by just running in a circle
STEVE HARVEY
also i've been following your channel for a while and watched most of your videos--bless you for your existence and KH-riddled heart
8:08 oh boy, this is the best tip ever, THANK YOU
30:33 fun fact you can actually glide across the gap with the elevator fight. You can completely avoid the fight
I'm in the middle of my first level 1 run right now. I found Giant Ursula was actually easier to fight a different way. I got damage storage up, and then just cast Aerora. Proceeded to simply swim around her head dealing Aerora contact damage. Never even swung the keyblade again. Every swing just made lightning harder to dodge. It was extremely easy to avoid her lightning spam, and the only attack that can really hit you is her AOE lightning, which does less damage due to Aerora. Fight felt faster than my failed Fira attempts, and was far far easier. Hope this helps someone out there. Oh, and the party was set to not cast spells and spam Ether on me. But I don't even think it was needed, Aerora did serious damage since you're just always hitting her fat head unless she's trying to bite you.
In your guide you did Atlantica before the Hercules cup, but I did the opposite and went to Hercules first purely for Aerora. Didn't even do the other two cups til after I got Thundera from Atlantica,
Aerora also crushes Darkside returns during final fight. 2 Aerora and spam melee is all it takes. less than a 50 seconds. Still plenty of mana for Ansem.
But I'm currently stuck on the fight during ansem where you rescue Donald. The invisibles 1 hit Donald and charge me the moment it starts before I can even cast or move. 9/10 starts I'm hurt and donalds dead with 6 invisibles on top of me that attack before I can cast anything. Forcing me to get trapped in a loop of running with no counter.
Both Ursula encounters are something I dreaded even on normal runs.
Now that I have the experience of the level 1 run, I can tell those were in fact really no big deal.
In agarba u can skip the fight in the room with the keyhole if u do a dodge right as u enter and hit the button fast enough.
In haloween town u can skip the fight in the gy by jumping on the pedistals its tricky but worth a try.
Just some notes I have after I finished my run:
Hollow Bastion Riku Fight 1:
> You can just hang on the ledge to the right and wait. Riku can't damage you and your party will finish him off.
Maleficent:
> Equip Stop. You can use it at the start to guarantee damage storage, and use it inbetween Genie and Dumbo to guarantee that they come out okay.
Thicc Ursula:
>Use stop and Aerora. That's it. Pure Cheese.
For lock Shock and barrel you can easily beat em with damage storage and dumbo and you do more damage if you let genie get every lock on instead of mashing triangle
Thank you for this guide. I just finished my first level 1 run a few minutes ago, and though I tried to do the fights on my own first, I would've had a hell of a lot more frustration without this guide (and certainly a lot more deaths; I died 255 times as it is). I'm definitely not done with it; there's still the postgame, after all. And I still have a couple more games in the series to play through at level 1.
All in all, this was a lot more fun than I expected (even having done the same thing in some of the other Kingdom Hearts games) and it's definitely given me a newfound appreciation for the KH1 combat mechanics.
Oh, and you're absolutely right about Ansem II being one of the best story fights in the game. I loved it before doing it at level 1, and I still love it now. (It also still manages to surprise me even now; on one of my attempts I was too /close/ to Ansem for his attack to land when he used his Submit move. I didn't know that could happen.)
Me: *sips drink* interesting.
Not like ill do this challenge any time soon but still a fascinating watch.
Also worth noting that you should change Sora from the mage build to a strength build for Sephiroth. Meaning Ultima weapon, any items that increase strength, and just don’t focus too much on magic. Sephiroth is immune to it, so put those points into the stat you’ll actually be using. It won’t be much of a benefit, but any benefit is better than none.
Sephiroth has 46 defense. Unless you can somehow get your strength stat above that, any boosts to your strength won't do anything. An extra cure or limit is more useful than strength.
I think the tedium of trying to synthesize everything without lucky strikes is worse honestly.
I got platinum for this game in one playthrough so it was a nice challenge for me.

How does this comment not hide.
How do you escape the end of the world after Chernabog bit before linked worlds?
