Shelters on the Appalachian Trail

There are over 250 shelters on the Appalachian trail spread on average every 8 miles apart. They are an integral part of the Appalachian Trail community and allow hikers to save on weight by providing shelter.

I appreciate the effort put into shelters like this, but that screams ‘soft target’ to threats that walk on two feet.
