Must be heartbreaking for the Russian girls to loose consecutive olympics finals after winning the first two sets, under the same coach..They really played their hearts out against two of the best Olympics team ever, that legendary Cuban team in Sydney and then this Chinese team with one of the world's finest setter.
The Russians' last Olympic title was in Seoul '88, when they were the USSR. They beat Peru in the final. Since then, only three other teams have clinched gold: Cuba ('92, '96, 2000), China (2004, 2016) and Brazil (2008, 2012).

The Russian team had a great chance of beating Cuba in 2000 when they won by straight sets to zero, but allowed the Cubans to draw and win, the same happened in this 2004 final against China. I am very sorry because I loved Artamonova, Godina, Sokolova and Tishchenko. These legendary players deservedly deserved to win the gold medal, but unfortunately the Russian team lost control in two consecutive Olympic finals.

This is a how a “final” gold medal match should be! I was so disappointed with what I watched today between brazil and US, not because US won but how brazil looked amateurish and just choked so easily.

Sokolova tuvo que reemplazar a Artamanova y se quedaron sin jugadas rápidas

She didnt cry in London. She already experienced grief in this match and maybe she knows she was the missing piece during their semis match with Brazil.
