  • www.chromaonline.com Chroma Inc. Presents Glazing Techniques with Atelier Interactive with Chroma's Resident Artist, Jennifer VonStein.
    Glazing is a painting technique in which you apply a thin, transparent layer of paint on top of a dry layer resulting in a new or enhanced color. Instead of physically mixing colors together, such as blue and yellow to make green, you apply a transparent blue layer on top of the yellow paint layer to get green. What results is a stained glass, luminous effect - glazing provides a method of toning and enriching colors like no other.
    Atelier Interactive presents some unique opportunities and challenges for artists when glazing or layering. Just about any Atelier medium that dries clear or translucent can be used for glazing, but the different viscosities and dry times produce different results. There are two ways to glaze and layer with Atelier Interactive - fast or slow -- and this is a personal choice that artists make.

    That's right! Use just a little bit of paint with more medium. It will be more translucent than transparent. Also, be sure to wipe back the glaze after you apply it so you leave just a hint of color. And J, we will work on the music. :-)

    Good video. I am distracted by the music. Totally unnecessary for me. I don't need to be entertained when I'm trying to learn something.

    What is medium, what is glaze, what is transparent and translucent.

      Mediums are added to paint to change one or more of its properties, such as making it thicker,, making mixtures flow easily, or in this case creating translucent glazes. In painting, glazes can be thought of as washes of color applied on a layer to alter the appearance of the underlying color. For example, if you have a yellow underlayer, and apply a blue glaze, what you will see is a green color. Transparent means to see through; translucent means semi-transparent.

    is it possible to get a more transparent glaze with a more opaque color? maybe by using even less paint to the glazing liquid?

    What is clear painting medium? Is it like the glaze?

    • @Chroma0001
      @Chroma0001  Před 7 lety

      The Clear Painting Medium is a mid-viscosity medium and is most popular medium. It can considered as a general purpose medium for thinning the paint and for traditional wet-over-dry techniques where edge blending is the most important factor in unifying your painting. It can also be used as a thicker glazing medium. The Glazing Liquid is much thinner, and its primary purpose is to be used for fast drying, transparent glazes. If you are thinking about getting a medium to use for glazing techniques, first think about how you paint and your style. If you are a fast painter, Glazing Liquid might suit you, as you'll be able to apply multiple glazes quickly. If you take a more considered approach and tend to thin you paint prior to application anyway, the Clear Painting Medium can serve both purposes and might suit you better. Most times, it comes down to how the paint+medium feels and responds to your brush and style!

      Chroma thanks - I find I thin my paint down with so much water so if I use this instead it will not lose its binding?

      Yes, I think you will have a much more enjoyable painting experience.
