    My Father and I are thankful to each and everyone of you! The Philippines has given my father a home, a loving wife, a son and a relaxing life in the tropics that most foreigners could only dream of. And because of that, my father is forever grateful.
    We might make a part 2 soon so stay tuned 🙌🏻

      Filipinos are very welcoming people especially to foreigners , women specifically prefer white foreign nationals than the local men, that’s the truth. But when we go visit their country specifically in America and Europe they are not as nice, they are so unkind. They have a different attitude towards us. Sad but that’s the reality we have to face.

    30 years of living in the Philippines and still love it there, while most Filipinos want to get out. If we could only see the Philippines in the eyes of these foreigners, I think many Filipinos who have migrated and have earned enough pension would want to go back home and reconnect with the motherland. Still, it needs a lot of courage and wisdom to leave a life of convenience and go back to a simple yet inconvenient life we were used to as a former Filipino. Your father saw those things that we Filipinos tend to ignore. I’m one of those looking at Philippines right now in your father’s point of view.

    I like your dad's story about his military career; I joined the military (USN)recruited in Subic Naval Base in 1973 and retired in 1993 same time your dad joined the French military. I was 20 when I joined; I stayed and worked worked another 25 years before retiring for good 5 years ago. I did plan to go back to Baguio city after military retirement so I had a house built in 1986 but decided to work on a second career until retired again. I knew a lot of Filipinos retired from the military and went home for good.

    Respect to your dad for making the effort to do most of this in English. His English is great. But when hearing him speak French he all of a sudden united as a person. Makes me realise how hard it is for an expat living and trying to communicate in a non native language.

    • @VanandJoe
      @VanandJoe  Před rokem +2

      Absolutely. He didn’t speak a word of English when he first came here and even brought a dictionary around 😅 so learning English was really his main goal. I think that’s what makes the Philippines so inviting for ex-pats knowing Filipinos can speak English so well.

There is a trend here with Northern Europeans looking to retire somewhere. I am not near that age yet. People used to pick Spain for example. Hello, new subscriber from California👋🏼 I happen to come across your channel and enjoyed watching this really insightful interview. I appreciated hearing your father’s life experiences, reflections and wise advise. Living in this time, with so many people immigrating to other countries, it’s important to hear that you should adapt to the new country you’re in, to be respectful, to observe without judgement, to learn the culture, customs. Also, if you immigrate to another country I think it’s important that one learns the language and doesn’t try to change the culture but rather accept and assimilate. You seem to have great parents, I wish you shared a photo of your mom and dad from 30 years ago😉 God bless them and may they enjoy many more years together.
