Build up your clientele first!!!! You’ll know when it’s time because you won’t be able to do both anymore without constant issues. I trusted God and stepped out on faith BUT I also had a supportive spouse who carried the finances in our home so I could use my money to build my business. Save money first and build your clientele!
I’m a college graduate 🎓 Exercise Science Major! I went to makeup school my last year of college. What makeup school didn’t tell me was about getting clients 😩😩 I’m also struggling to find a FT job in ANY field. So I’m doing makeup and UBER and Lyft, which I promote my service! Starting today until this weekend I am fully booked. I have gotten discouraged but trusting my process keeps me afloat. 💪🏽💪🏽
my Advice to anyone starting is 1. staying consistent. I've been part time for 3 years now and I am now just getting noticed and picking up more and more clients. I've wanted to quit so many times in the beginning cuz i was not seeing the results I wanted. But trust me it's worth the ups and downs. Rome was not built in a day and neither should be your business. 2. I've been following Tiyana for a while if you want to know where and how to start find a good mentor that can teach/show you the ropes. Invest in yourself and your business for a long term outcome.
I genuinely appreciate this advice. As, someone who was ready to take some major risks, I am so happy I watched this video. Thank you for being honest, open and transparent. 🦋
I'm a self starting MUA I've been doing makeup for 5 yrs now and just really starting to get notice..I'm a single mom and was thinking on how I can grow my business and still take care of my bills.. watching this video really open my eyes THANK YOU I'm so excited to see what happens next! 👑
I’m actually here because I need a full time job. I’m a hairstylist and makeup artist with a desire to rebuild my brand as a makeup artist and I was relying on my clientele in a salon to do build it…and though I’ve been okay… no way. Consistency is necessary to build a brand!
Dropping gems per usual Tiyana! As a full time MUA my suggestion would be to figure out your signature style as early as possible, learn to network with the right people, and focus on the business aspect just as much as the actual makeup. When I started I knew I was good at makeup, I knew there was a burning passion for it but I didn't understand the business side of things and it hurt my business in the beginning. Since focusing on the business side of things it has enhanced the clients experience tremendously the makeup is just icing on the cake.
This is so true. I am able to build my business because of my full-time job; most kit essentials, classes and business investments come from my 9-5. On another note, can we take a moment for Tiyana's style and outfit choices? Sis is on fire.
you are THE TRUTH! Thanks for keeping it so real with us. Just what I needed to hear at the right time- I feel better about having my full-time job now and how it can help me & am trusting the process! It all begins with a shift in mindset
I’ll be 18 tomorrow, March 11 . I am graduating in May , I have my makeup class March 22 , 2021 . I have been setting up everything up . I have my business cards and most of my makeup setup . When you said you had no student loans or debt & no kids young just living I felt that . I’m going to be so grateful being a young successful MUA fresh out of school
Love this information and I love this! I work in superannuation and I’d love to be a side makeup artist while advertising my lash line! But I’m 37 now I feel people think I’m too old
So grateful for this video, it has set me free. I just took a part time administrative and felt like I had failed a bit. I appreciate your words of wisdom
You are absolutely NOT a failure! Kudos to you for not allowing ego to prevent you from making the best decision for YOU and YOUR life! Now that you have a full time job, you now have the emotional and financial capacity to grow your business! Wishing you much love and success on your journey!
As always, great information! Thank you!! 💜 My real talk: I wish someone would have told me that in reality people dont get their makeup done EVERY DAY, which you know but also dont "really" know, and that random one client you get starting out is not going to cover all of the bills, unless you're charging a million dollars, LOL. It may sound weird, but when you're trying to build your business people it's not like people are standing in line Monday morning waiting for you to come in. Every day people dont need their makeup done every day. That's just Real Talk. Like you said, it definitely makes good sense not to quit your day job until you've made a good, solid, working plan.
RIGHT!!!! It's one of the things that you know, but you don't UNDERSTAND until you're in it! You're like OoooOoohhh... right... my clients are AT WORK during the week! LOL So, part 2 of this conversation is, if you DO go full time, you *need* to have a secord (or third) source of income, and that can be a bridal team that works under you (that can take additional jobs that you're not able to), or a product line, or an additional skill that you can monetize, etc.
OMG! I love this video! You know my life! 😩 I get the “why aren’t you full time?” question a lot. & it’s frustrating. I know I am not ready to go full time & I love the benefit of having a full time (LOW STRESS) day job. When I decided to leave, I want to rely on more than makeup. THANK YOU!
Girl, you are so dope, such GREAT business Intelligence! This video is GOLDEN knowledge! How are you so great at everything you do!!? Lol rock on little lady!
Great advice Tiyana! Staying grateful could get tough, I must admit. I got into makeup right after school, looking for a job to no avail. Sustainability is still an issue and I'll still love to work 9-5 because there's a lot I can offer besides makeup. Will think through while follow your posts. So much wisdom. Thank you!
I'm so glad this video could be a jumping off point for you as you think about your future, Sandra! Gratitude can definitely be tough, especially when you feel like things aren't going your way, but I promise, it is such an important piece of the equation! Like... even when you get a full time job, being in gratitude EVERY DAY because what if you were placed there to make a connection that changes your life? Or what if you learn a lesson that changes the trajectory of your business?
Love love love this video!! You gave some very great advice as far as being able to realistically transition into a full time Pro MUA that I will definitely take to heart. I’m so excited for all the new content you’ve been working on!!
You are the best thing I’ve found on CZcams in a long time for professional MUA’s. You are going places and I’m just glad I’m here from the beginning of this explosion. It’s gonna happen.
Hi lady, thank you for this video, this is random but I really like the sound of your fulltime role and wondered if you could go through how your day at work is, what you're expected todo.
I think the reason you have almost no views on this video regardless of the great quality is because of the title , people hate negative nacy's,Im not sure if that is what you are because I'm not going to watch it ,incase I start owning another person's failure or bad experience as something I'm going to go through as well.
Full time Pro MUAs : What advice would you give to someone who's thinking about going full time? What do you wish someone would've told you?

Yes! Such smart advice! That's the point that I decided to go full time, too!
Great advice
Dani And Aidan what an amazing hubby!!! Teamwork at its finest. I love it.

Where should we find a mentor? In real like I see all these make up courses which is awesome but I need the real life one on one mentorship. 🥲
