  • 0:00 KV-2 heavy tank of the 12th Tank Division of the 8th Mechanized Corps destroyed at the end of June 1941 near Dubno in Ukraine during the Battle of Brody. This level of damage suggests the use of demolition charges to render the vehicle unrecoverable, a task that has been rather definitively accomplished.
0:09 KV-2 heavy tank of the 6th Mechanized Corps knocked out at Ryboły in Poland at the end of June 1941 during the Battle of Białystok-Minsk. One knows that it is a big turret when a ladder is necessary.
0:13 Komintern heavy tractor based on the T-24 medium tank knocked out near a crater that was presumably the result of an aircraft bomb detonation.
0:20 KV-1 heavy tank with an armor piercing shot, presumably from a 37mm gun, that has gone clean through the barrel. The script on the barrel reads "Vernichtet durch: 5. schw. Kradschützen Btl. 29" suggesting it was knocked out by a heavy company of Kradschützen-Bataillon 29, a motorcycle battalion.
0:23 T-28 medium tank with a T-37A amphibious light tank in the background.
0:24 BT-7 cavalry tank and an 85mm air defense gun M1939 (52-K) in the background.
0:26 T-34/76 tank and another BT-7 in the background.
0:28 ZiS-5 truck and KV-1 heavy tank in the background.
    0:30 BT-7 with a T-40 light tank and KV-1 in the background.
    0:32 STZ-5 artillery tractor.
0:34 Another view of the KV-2 seen at the beginning of the clip, with the damage to the gun barrel suggesting a demolition charge was placed in the barrel.
0:36 BT-7 and Komintern tractor knocked out near a T-35 multi-turreted heavy tank, a veritable land battleship that has captured the attention of German personnel. One of them is seen handing a shell for the main 76.2mm gun, while in four additional turrets there were two 45mm guns and two 7.62mm machine guns.

There's a photo circulating on the internet of an immobilized T-35 (probably at Kharkov), with the graves of 4-5 German soldiers buried not far from it : it didn't go without a fight.

The scale of losses on the Eastern Front are difficult to visualize, during the Battle of Białystok-Minsk Soviet forces are estimated to have suffered over 300,000 casualties against less than 15,000 for Axis forces.

@@hw97karbine The data you provided about Soviet losses is nothing more than shitty German propaganda of bygone times. But in the archive you can find a document about the report of the Chief of the German General Staff, Franz Halder, dated January 9, 1942, on Wehrmacht losses during the first six months of the war on the eastern front. The permanent losses of the Wehrmacht during the first six months of the war with the Soviet Union amounted to 500,000 soldiers and officers,..

By June of 1941, the Communist dictator Stalin had about 24,000 combat tanks and 20,000 military aircraft, with about 5.5 million men under arms. This was by far, the largest army in the world. During the Battle of Kiev, fought between July and Sept 1941, Stalin's Red Army lost about 700,000 men, including about 450,000 prisoners.

Was the situation in France in 1940 somehow different from what we see in this film ? The truth is that the Russians managed to bandage their wounds and teach the Germans an instructive lesson in good manners just a few months after the start of the war on the eastern front. Every ninth German soldier out of ten who fell during the entire Second World War was killed in the vast expanses of Russia,.....

Easy to come "roaring back" when the United States has single handedly rebuilt your arms industry and given you enough weapons to arm a medium sized county. America won WW2 with unprecedented industrial power in all of human history. All the Soviets did was throw meat into the front and workers into the (American built) factories that ran 24/7.
