I also saw Nick Cartell with Josh Young on a Friday night. He did a beautiful job! I loved his voice, it was so clear and pure, although not as "rocky," he still was phenomenal as Jesus. And don't even get me started on how awe-inspiring Josh was as Judas. I wish I could've seen Paul because (as you can see here) he is amazing, but I was very happy with Nick's performance.
phew- that was intense! and amazing!! i had the privalege of seeing this incredible cast last week with the incomparable Josh Young as Judas and the absolutely unexpected delight of hearing Nick Cartell perform Jesus. pre-show the theatre was a buzz with 'are you kidding me' when the paper squares with the u/s info fell out of the Playbill--most people around me were not happy that Paul Nolan wasn't on(especially since it was a Friday night)--but the whole show was first rate! Tonys '12 for JCS!
Jeremy Kushnier played Judas, He was good! But I mean Judas isn't by any means an easy role to step into as an understudy. But he was good, cracked once or twice and took a couple notes down, but i found his acting to be good! Check out some more of the videos I posted, there are a few of my high school doing JCS last summer, I played judas, Such an awesome show! I can tell you like it too. And it was Tom Hewitt btw
Yeah its a hard song, I didn't want to hurt my voice by singing it incorrectly, so I decided to take them down. I don't know if my voice is ready to do a recording of that song and do it justice, haha, but its a great show.
Thank you! Wow, the 5th of April, so it was after the official Opening Night! Forgive me my impertinence, but have you filmed anything apart from Gethsemane? And who was Judas in this show? I know there are two of them (Jeremy Kushnier and Josh Young), I wonder who was when you saw it and what do you think about his performance? And how was the Pilate you saw (I take it that it was Tom Hewitt you saw?)
Wooow, thank you very much for this video :) Could you tell me what's the date of the performance when this was filmed? The audience doesn't seem to know much about the show :) I mean here 4:15 some of them start clapping as if it were the end of the number :) Paul is fabulous, so are the orchestrations :) Although I agree with @enterthedome that with those hight notes which Steve Balsamo used to give it would have been even more awesome, but this guy's name is Paul, after all :))
Does anyone have any more videos? there is one really good one of "heaven on their minds" and rumors that a very good recording of the full show is out there...anyone know anything?
And how did you like this Pilate? :) OK, I checked some of your other videos :) I was just a little bit disappointed that you "took down" "true" and "say" in Heaven on Their Minds, although I am aware of all the difficulties of hitting these notes properly :) I liked your desperate cry "Jesus" though :) I think you should do a studio recording of this awesome song to do it justice (of course if you have the chance to record it :))
Honestly so great. His version is what made me come to love this song, and I'm still in love with it!
How did this Cast Not get a cast Recording
chris hall because there are many cast recordings out anyway so, they thought maybe not
they missed a perfect opportunity
2:55-3:10
maybe the greatest thing I have EVER heard.

April 15th, Yeah I guess people didn't realize that he wasn't finished. Its such a great show!

Saw it live. I really liked his performance. I do wish he'd go for my high notes, though.

I saw Josh's understudy Jeremy Kushner I think his name was, and he was amazing as well. Just a good cast overall I feel.

Better than Ted, this guy does not delay the words. Ted is horrible for delaying his words to much!
