It's been more than a year since my last video about Xbox Cloud Gaming (aka xCloud) and as we're quickly approaching 2023, I wanted to do a quick revisit on the service to see if it's ready for primetime, where you can recommend non-enthusiasts to try it out. Is it ready yet? Find out in the video.

I love this thing, I'm always away working 6 days a week and so I never have more than an hour a day to myself in the break room or in my car during lunch and just playing xbox cloud games on my fold with ANC earbuds is one of the greatest feelings. I just sit down at my desk of choice, take out my phone and earbuds from my pocket and my controller out of my draw/glovebox and just enjoy some of my favourite games. It's really helped me to take a break when I needed it and the support team help whenever there is any issues. 11/10 , have sent my friends the link for the $1 trial and even bought the prepaid cards for Xmas gifts.

It's the best. Gaming is becoming my fav hobby as i get older and I'd never have time to sit in front of an expensive console. I've gotten into the cloud recently did a lot of hw. I use a service called shadow pc which works for me but is a tad expensive and requires purchasing games or having a steam library. X cloud has a few issues but is more than worth the price of what you get i pay for it. I personally like it with a razer kishi controller but the touch is awesome as well. Good on Microsoft this is an awesome service. More ppl should know about it and not hate on the cloud.

I think $15 a month to get access to multiple games on Xbox Cloud Gaming is a really good deal, especially if you dont have $1000 to drop on a gaming PC or console and $60 per game. With how expensive gaming hardware has gotten because of covid, I doubt you'll be able to find an Xbox Series X for $500. Plus its so nice being able to play every game on ultra graphic settings without having to worry if your hardware could run it or not. The only catch is you need to have good internet connection. Im lucky that my internet service is good where I live, so Im able to get smooth gameplay without much input lag from my experience

I agree that the cloud service needs a dedicated storage option so you can permanently own your digitally purchased games and not have to keep them natively eating up valuable storage space, especially on the XBox Series S. I think Phil Spencer will work something along this option out because this will keep active users for the cloud service extremely high. There are plenty of ways to make this a big money maker for when people go to the Game Pass hub to use their cloud storage and gameplay options. I also think that cloud gaming should be included in your Gamepass Ultimate once it's out of Beta and becomes a stand a lone product. Cloud gaming has huge potential for Microsoft if they keep it merged with Gamepass.

    • @Okazu84
      @Okazu84 Před rokem +2

I'm not sure what you're describing, because streamed games are specifically not supposed to be installed on your machine and thus take very little if any actual local storage space (bar maybe a few temporary files needed to run the stream, just like a regular media player would). But I think that rather than cloud gaming, you would be referring to cloud *computing* services where there is a persisting user storage space of which a given subscriber can do whatever he/she wants and get back to it next time the service is accessed again after logout.
At present that's the problem with all traditionnal cloud gaming services based on a GaaS model, where you have only minimal access to the virtual machine from which a given game is running and being streamed. That also presents licencing problems since the companies behind the service will need to have cached copies of their game spread over more physical computers or consoles (racked in their datacenters) than than they have licences themselves, if any. The user has purchased the licence, but the company caches copies of downloaded games in multiple places that it does not technically own either.
This would currently be the biggest current legal headache for cloud providers, and kills a lot of releases on Nvidia's GFN which I use, for instance. It's not technically a problem, but an easily exploitation loophole that any greedy company unwilling to release a given game on a given cloud platform will use to forbid its deployment there.
THe only cloud gaming service that has been able to circumvent that limitation is a lesser-known one named Boosteroid, which offers the possibility to stream directly for games it is authorized to host on its datacenters, or "install on VM and play" , which actually triggers a download of your legally purchased game on the current Boosteroid VM that has be dedicated to your gaming session, that will then be wiped after you get out (saves being securing in your DRM's cloud), only for your to reinstall it again next time you play. Yeah it feels counter-intuitive if not outright stupid and eats up a lot of ressources with disks constantly writing and deleting dozens of gigabyes of game data per user, but that's the only way not to be bothered with licencing issues and offer a virtually unlimited amount of games in your library.
Until the industry fully moves onto the cloud era, in spirit and tech, and every single studio stops caring where exactly its legally purchased games are ran from by their users, this will remain the only way to secure games for a given service !

I do think it's ready. Honestly, 3 months ago, I couldn't enjoy Xbox cloud on my home internet with about 600 down but only 20 up (Xfinity sucks like that) because of artifacts, screen tearing, sound issues. I just finished a session this evening on puny hotel Wi-Fi (15 down/15 up) and it was ALMOST flawless. So just in the past weeks something seems to have gotten better. For those who complain about performance - split your SSID'S on your router and just connect to the 5ghz one when you want to play xcloud games, you'll still experience some connection issues here and there but it works well about 90% of the time
Those who complain about the price...it would cost you less in the long term to buy this service flat out for 10 years than it would be to buy a console, a controller and all the games currently available to play.
It's a no brainer for me, I don't have time to download a game for several hours just to see if I like it.

I don’t know if it got better before it was shut down, but I tried stadia mid way thru Covid and it was really bad for me. Game performance and input was really laggy on my 300 mbps. So if you’re saying this is slightly worse than stadia, then maybe it’s not for me
If there’s a trial I’d give it a shot but I’m thinking I’d really need gig internet speeds to use this

I tried game pass ultimate to try xbox cloud gaming just a couple of months after Outriders came out... So september 2021. Apart from the annoying input delays at times, I still managed to beat the game. Playing multiplayer games was a huge no no because the couple of milleseconds of input delay could mean life or death in some games. I cancelled my subscription because of the input delay (despite having fiber internet)
watching this video makes me want to revisit xbox cloud again.

Fast pace games like Doom or Moonscars I get so much input delay. Other services like Gforce now or Stadia have been almost perfect performance for me.

Go to your router settings and make two separate SSID channels, one for 2.4ghz and one for 5ghz, this way you can connect to the 5ghz channel when playing xxloud games, this will allow you to acceess the highest possible speed for your streaming.
Just make sure to give the SSID's separate names so you can indentify which channel is which before you connect (they can have the same password).
I have a crappy virgin media router and gave up on cloud gaming until I did this trick and now I can stream the games from my phone from pretty much anywhere in my home.
Try it out, but research the settings for your specific router first. Let me know if it works lol

Definitely some game work better than other. Sometimes blue tooth controllers make it worse and can also cause interference + additional latency. For example my android phone has real bad latency and seem the design of the phone is the cause. Where as my iPhone and iPad have 8-16ms latency which is really low. I believe newer phones do better because of the Wi-Fi 6 capabilities too. Right now gears 5 and halo I have no noticeable latency or lag. But games like forza and a plagues tell there is lag but still playable
