This is one of the few songs I think is way better as nightcore. When I listened to the original I felt super patronized, but with the sped of version, it lingers less on the unity and more on the confusion, as also results in a more childlike sound of someone trying to understand the world. This feels way more emotionally impactful to me than the original song as a result, even though most aspects are left unchanged.

This song gave me chills, especially everything leading into the first chorus. The singing in this part is beautiful, sounds almost graceful, but you can feel the dystopia of the lyrics through the almost-haunting notes. There's a mixed sense of realization, sadness, hope, curiosity, and dread that I got from a lot of this song. The idea of seeking the purpose in living and searching for humanity in such a chaotic and damaged world touches way too close to heart, for many, and the struggle unites us, despite whatever differences we may have.

I've returned to this after 3 years and it still hits different. I listened to this as an edgy 15 who thought this was deep. Usually when I listen to songs that I used to think are deep, I realize that they are not that sophisticated. But over the past 3 years I've been increasingly asking myself why I am on this planet and what it is to be human. But maybe I'm still edgy af idk.
It's normal to be confused by that question and wanting an answer at any age.
It's not normal to be consumed by it.
Realizing that what you thought you knew and how you felt about it are different from what you know and feel now is probably the most frequent and pervasive experience in anyone's life. To Be Human is probably the most important song on this record for me, because thematically it sums up the headspace that I’ve come from in the past 3 years. I think the subject matter is really important, it talks about unity. I namecheck a lot of places around the world São Paulo, Verona, Angola, Chicago, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Greece. When I was writing that I wanted to create this picture of humanity, because in our political climate we are constantly being made to see other people as ‘other’. If you’re from a different culture, you’re seen as different and potentially dangerous and I really hate that. I really think that’s a sad way to see humanity. So I wrote this song really thinking about that, and for that reason it really forms a core part of the record.

Here in 2022 and this song feels more and more relevant as time moves forward... After all the things I've done, good and bad.. I've began to see humans but where's our humanity..??? Constant war, food shortage? Where are the times where we would share what we had, where we'd work together... where's the times when people actually cared about this world. Anymore I have began crying as if I can feel this earth the planet itself crying. I think I can say this more than just myself I hope when I say I am disappointed in the countries of this world. America is beginning it's decent like Rome, China is now the point and blame, racism seems to be somewhat worse now than it was just a couple years ago. and so much more happening behind the scenes and in front of our eye's. Honestly if this keeps up I give our world 50 years max before we're screwed without a point of return... I honestly just hope if it does reach the point of no return I'm not around to see it.. The world was beautiful.. and at this rate soon it'll be nothing. Anyway sorry for ranting, hope everyone has a beautiful day and life.

@@NeonAGC life has gotten a lot better. Idk if it’s okay to rant rq. Please don’t read ahead since it’s a bit of a trauma dump 😅 but it went bad for a while- with my ex and my stalker. After my father passed my ex was there for me (we were friends for 8 years- then dated) but he was just- he was using me I suppose and his ex girlfriend started stalking and harassing me for another year or so. Finally in May of this year it somewhat ended and we have each other blocked and moved on (at least I did) and I met the love of my life ^^ so I guess things went well

I was reading the end of Solo Leveling, listening to a random playlist. And at the very last chapter, THIS song came. "Still I don't know, don't know what it means To be human", when I understand that the images of the characters I see here are the last ones of the manhwa. That all these lovely, funny, enchanting characters will just stop. It is the end, even though it felt like the story could be eternal.
