The Shadow was a comic book, a comic strip, and a radio play. The story was that Lamont Cranston went to the east and learned how to cloud men's minds, so they couldn't see him. Then he would solve crimes as the "invisible" Shadow. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows."
yes, my great uncle told me about listening to the shadow in the 1930's or early 1940's.
I combined the two and took a couple Shadow comic books to Rosa Rio to autograph. She was the organist from the early Shadow radio shows. Someday after I'm gone someone will scratch their head trying to figure out who's signature it is. She was 106 at time she signed it.
later on in the 80's or 90's i cant remember they did a movie with Alex Baldwin as The Shadow

The Shadow was my favorite old time radio showThey made a movie starring Alec Baldwin called The Shadow based on the radio show. The Shadow was able to cloud men’s minds so they couldn’t see him which allowed him to catch the bad guys.

So many Phil's!!😂 I hope you come back for the Groundhog Day celebration, I understand it's quite the party. I've been to the one in Woodstock Illinois, where the movie was filmed, and had a blast. Also, the Shadow was a comic character from when my Dad was a kid, and was a movie in the late 80s, early 90s. Jen just about killed me when she was laughing over the sign in the park. Her laugh is absolutely infectious. 😂😂😂

41 years of living just 12 miles away I've been to groundhog day twice, once in 1999 and then again with my daughter 20 years later.

Exactly. Since they go to years and years worth of college and can't tell us how the weather will be in an hour ...if I were the parents of weather people, I would be upset that my college money was wasted ....its awful...what other jobs can you work and be sooooo wrong everyday and still have a job??? The Shadow was a radio show which was on the air when my parents were kids back in the 1930s and 40s. My Dad told us his brothers and sisters would all sit around the radio and listen to the story.

The Shadow was a radio show, movie serial and all the old stuff. There were also movies, the most recent was in 1994 starring Adam Baldwin. The Shadow was a mysterious detective who wore a mask. He was one of the inspirations for Batman. The narrator of the radio play would say "Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men? The Shadow knows!"
Also, you want pennies from 1982 or older. They're made from mostly copper, not copper clad zinc like modern pennies.

I visited the library about 10 years ago and got to meet Phil,what a treat that was!! I didn't see anything else in that town but did see Gobbler's Nob.
Feels like Rankin-Bass should have done a Groundhog Day special. Could have had the handlebar mustache villain from Frosty steal the elixir. Phil has to get it back before the years catch up with him.

When I was little, they kept Phil in an exhibit in the library, not the Groundhog Zoo. I guess some things had to change after the movie.
I meant to say that his burrow was in the center of the library when I was young. So you could only see him when the library was open.

I have a groundhog trying to live on a 30 ft X 7 ft strip of brush and trees at the back of my property. He's making a go at it.

IUP is the University of Pennsylvania, Indiana PA campus. Punxsy has a branch campus which is their culinary school. My daughter graduated from the main campus in Indiana so I traveled through Punxy many many times to pick up and return her to campus. BTW, Indiana PA is Jimmy Stewart’s hometown and they have a nice museum dedicated to him.
This was a lot of fun, all 40 Phil statues, the Weather Discovery center, souvenir shop, museum, Gobblers Knob, and Phil himself (and Phyllis)!
The dead groundhog was from the magic ellixer that keeps Phil alive. Magic requires a balance so when they make the elixir a groundhog dies. Probably one of Phils closest friends.
My mind went to a groundhog day horror movie idea when you talked about Phil outliving his wives.

I am from a small town called Woodstock, IL. (Not far from the Belvidere, IL Oasis!!) Where the groundhogs day movie with Tim Murray was filmed! You should definitely check it out, they have a whole mural in downtown with lots of cool things to see, and they set up on groundhogs day & do a big event, you can get a tour of the town and movie locations. (The bed and breakfast he stayed at in the movie is still open!) and also check out my family’s restaurant a block away from the mural Napoli Pizza!

The shadow was an old radio serial originally, when I delivered newspapers in the 70's I would listen to what were nostalgic replays then early on Sunday mornings.

1982 and prior pennies are made of copper and 1983 and later have zinc in then. When the zinc pennies are smashed- they have those silver lines in the penny.
