For the HERO archetype: Elemental HERO Divine Neos
It takes "5" materials to summon: needs to have at least 1 Neos, Neo-Spacian, HERO, and/or Neo Space monster(s) in order to summon. Effect, banish 1 Neos, Neo-Spacian, HERO, and/or Neo Space monster in GY; this card gains 500 ATK until the end of the turn and the banished monster's effect. So surprised no one brought up Ultimate Flagship Ursatron. It’s a fusion monster that branches archetypes between the synchro archetype Ursarctics and the ritual archetype Drytron. The only thing these archetypes have in common is that they tribute monsters from the hand to active their effects. What does Ultimate Flagship Ursatron do? Searches drytron or ursarctic monsters if an effect monster is special summoned, and it can grab a banished monster and add it to hand. If this was a continuous spell, it might be worth playing, but as it stands it’s just a clunky monster that you don’t play in either ursarctics or drytron, truly the epitome of modern pointless boss monsters.

I think the actual reason was because Cyber dragons were in a Duelist pack, and they felt obligated to include a new boss monster. But Duelist packs exist to support the cards and playstyles the duelist used; and Zane's boss is unquestionable Cyber End Dragon, which they don't want to usurp but it was a bit to hard to build on. Solution: make a fusion that is literally it's exact opposite and hope that helps.

If I may share a conspiracy theory: I actually think they made that. But Konami designers have to think about things the CZcams Comment section rarely does; like "does this actually support anything or sell any reprints", or "is there room to build on this in the future" and of course "would this be more worthwhile as a new deck". So they present is to their bosses as "Hey, I've got this new deck idea about Xyz monsters that combine into a bigger Xyz monster. I originally made them as retrains of Gate Guardian & co. but realized they didn't really serve a purpose that way; so I was thinking we could instead make it a Super Sentai Megazord."

@@jerryjezzaberry5009 True, but there's a catch with anime nostalgia; people want not just to play nostalgia decks, but nostalgia cards. Heck; to Konami, anime decks usually are their anime cards, especially if it's a deck or themed named after the card.
All that to say; I think it's a bit unthinkable to Konami to support Gate Guardian with the retrain route because people want to play the legendary Gate Guardian. I mean I'd prefer that. With Great Magnus already proving the gameplay experience, all any Gate Guardian support could offer is letting me play Gate Guardian.
But the full retrain route is always the easiest way to feel like you're supporting anything (that's why it tends to appeal to guys on the internet like us when we wonder what support something should get); so anything better requires a bit more creativity, and so I imagine it gets put on the backburner as they work on easier to support stuff.
PaniK, if he ever got support, would probably be treated at least a little similarly, though I'd compare it more to Ishizu in that they'd pick something he played and say "okay, you've got to play this. We'll replace everything else with new effects to replicate the strategy, but this one thing you've still got to play because it'll be named in all the effects. It's the one nostalgia card you're playing and the one reprint we're selling." With PaniK playing nothing good like Ishizu's Exchange of Spirit, it'll probably be the at least semi-iconic Castle of Dark Illusions.
And Ghost Kaiba I don't think would ever get his own deck because there's nothing to his existing deck but stolen Normals, and they can't just make a new deck from scratch and say it's Ghost Kaiba's deck despite playing 0 of his cards. Best you could hope for there is a Phatom Blue-Eyes introduced as new Blue-Eyes support as a nod to the guy.

That modafaqa ensures that if we ever get a meta Insect zenolocked archetype in the future that would put up a full board of "supposed Insect boss monsters" on the field, you would just need to put him in the ED and a Super Poly to whoop all their insect asses into the garbage can. He is more of a Insect counter than an actual Insect support!
Still, requires 4 materials is too much even as a Super Poly target tho, so i guess you have to run him in an Insect deck also, to maybe take 3 from opponent and 1 Insect from you as materials? And that supposed "meta" insect deck must have to dominate so much that you would constantly playing mirror matches for it to be used as a Super Poly target in the first place.

And yes, Beetrooper can not only easily pull that off, but the whole engine can loop itself to be usable forever. It was the best option to copy, but it doesn't mean those monsters weren't gonna be stupid eventually in their own right.
If anything, effect copying should come with some notable downsides, such as preventing damage for the turn or locking other aspects like special summoning, but in most cases, there were none (in starving venom's case, it actually gave the benefit of full piercing for all your monsters), and that was just ridiculous for the ability to copy potentially limited or powerful effects where the downside was the original monster they were attached too or a OPT condition.

You also have to remember this card came out more than a year and a half before AccessCode Talker did. It was a really good card that stole games.
I played it as a one of in addition to Topologic Bomber Dragon.
As for Shadow of the Six Sam, They still played that damn thing. it put counters on gateway and It turned Kageki into a 3500 beatstick for OTKs.
With Dark Flattop, that's sort of not accurate. In Yugioh, when a card effect doesn't align with game mechanics, you follow what the card effect says. So in theory, that was what Konami was going for with Dark Flattop. I honestly am unsure why Konami officially decided to rule that you couldn't summon a Skyfire that wasn't summoned properly first with Dark Flattop.

@@Akkuseru yup. It's a shame it lost some of it's power with the Master Rule 4.5 update. Makes him a bit less powerful against synchro, fusion and xyz decks now that they don't require links.

3:00 Cyber Eternity Dragon does actually have a useful niche...in cyberdarks, to get sent by realm on turn 2 to protect your powerbonded seigerboosted cydra boss of choice as it goes in for the otk.

I've been playing a lot of pure cyber dragons recently, I have used cyber eternity dragon a few times. It's not an unplayable card for the archetype since is uses a cyber dragon monster rather than cyber dragon itself, and cyber dragons can use banished materials for fusion summoning but don't change their name to cyber dragon when banished.
So sometimes it and cymeratech rampage dragon are your only options. And if you happen to have a fusion monster in grave already, and your opponent got like, dpe or something on board, this is nice.
But yeah no it's not good I run one because I don't own a second copy of cyber dragon infinity.

Technically for the dark flattop ruling is that specifically is that if it wants to be able to ignore summoning conditions it has to be from the hand (which is why “a wild monster appears” works) but because by game mechanics a monster that needs to be summoned from the graveyard has to be first properly summoned first in order for those types of effects to work.

Hieratics also have Sutekh which is just a DAD that loses the material it needs to banish cards.

Shadow of Six Sam is a big piece of the Six Sam FTK because it's an XYZ that you can summon with 2 Kizan, and that gives you counters on summon

I just want to point out that while yes Shien doesn't really affect a whole ton with its effect it can set a Kageki to 3500 and much less powerfully, a Kizan to 2400. It also was played essentially to have another monster on board at the end of a long chain for extra counters on Gateway and to recycle a Kizan at the end so you do have a follow up play if your board gets cracked. So while it doesn't seem to do a whole lot on paper, Shien was actually quite good for the archetype and was summoned nearly every game in that era.

    For some more recent examples
Frightfur Chimera:A Hyper offensive deck getting a boss that probably means you already have game when you summon it requiring 3 mats for a medicore Goyo Guardian effect
Judgement, Dragon of heaven:Micheal the other synchro is a decent removal option and Judgement dragon was powerful for the time. This monster is a medicore field nuke that requires addtional set up and locks you intl dragons
Nearly all of the high leveld maindeck D/D/Ds:The Archetype is fucking huge but minus Raganorock and if you reach Leonidus and Apocaplyse thr level 5+ main deck monsters are laughable bad
Dogmatika rituals: taking 1-2 cards from your opponent's ED is only useful in a scrnario in which the entire deck revolves around resolving that single monster and don't provide much protection
    Darkfluid Dragon:Just use Accesscode

Shouts out to those people who got to use Orcustrion during the N/R festival. Its pretty good when you ban every other link 4 monster with spot removal and very bad otherwise. Try it on your next N/R festival play through if the event comes around again for that once in a lifetime opportunity lol.

Whenever I think of a good card that doesn't synergize with the archetype it belongs to (and technically doesn't even belong to it) I think of Vennominon and Vennominaga, who aren't even Venom monsters and are just so absurdly good compared to any monster of their (true) archetype. Yeah they work with reptiles but at that point you could throw them in an Alien or Worm deck and they'd honestly be better off.

when I first got back into yugioh I built six sams... right before they banned gateway.... I continued to play them even after that, although I must admit I was definitely not going to any large events, but I will say that high school me definitely got some mileage out of shadow. One of the hardest things to get over at the time were monsters with big Stat lines, so the ability to change kageki's base attack to 2k and 1500 from his effect got around a lot of scary situations for me. Not the most insane card ever, and certainly worse than shi en, but it had its place
