  • Picked up a Generac GP15000e portable generator off of Facebook Marketplace for cheap to fix and resell.
    It boasts 22,500 peak watts and 15,000 running watts, making plenty of power for a large house off-grid. Identical machine to the Ultra Source 15,000w and little brother to the GP17500e

    Good job on carb rebuild. When shopping for a gen to rebuild I take a ohm reading on the power head first, the stator and rotor are expensive for these big generators. Over 300 hours kills my interest too.

      thats a good point and Ive started making that more of a priority before digging into the engines on these now. This one was only $100 so I figured it was a win win either way if I just ended up with a working 900cc motor to sell for a go-kart or sandrail or something and had to scrap the generator parts. I've learned a bunch even since this video already, but havent filmed as much of them haha. Its a lot of work and time to film and edit these things

      🤣 lmao someone else said that too, the magic of editing 😜 i dropped the friggin intake gasket behind the flywheel on the first take… it took me about 15mins to find it and retrieve it so i had to do some extra editing and when i finally got that gasket back i had removed the gloves

    You can see all the soot from the exhaust on the shot at the end from the throttle fluctuating before and running rich

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před rokem

      Yeah when the carb was hunting, you could see black smoke coming from the exhaust when it would try to blip the throttle lower. When the Idle was on, it was puffing out so much more black smoke, so thats where I got the idea at the end to check the o-rings on those pilot jets

    Wish I was mechanically inclined good job. I almost bought that same model but my friend talked me out of it and told me to go with the EFI. It was an extra $700. Hopefully it’s worth it. I don’t get it till the end of May they were backordered on the EFI models.

      I’m sure you’ll be fine, I never thought I’d be doing rebuilds like this until I started just digging in and giving it a shot, CZcams has given me a whole new level of confidence in that i can watch numerous videos of others fixing stuff to try and narrow down what the issues are on my equipment. Reddit and CZcams have changed my life in the last few years, just have to know how to search and narrow down what the results are to see what might work for your situation

      Nice, it was easier than I thought when you remove the whole intake manifold just make sure the gaskets dont drop into the flywheel. Also the carb rebuild kits come with like 6 little tiny rubber o-rings for the plastic slow jets on top, make sure to replace those cause mine were hard and crusty and caused mine to run rich/erratic. Make sure to clean out those 5-6 super tiny little holes on the top side of the outlet too. Good luck and give me a shout if you run into any issues hopefully the video helps.

    I had to run my 7000 watt generator for 12 days straight after Hurricane Ida last year. I hate to think what that 15000 watt gen would have cost to run for that length of time! Mine was only run between dark and dawn and I racked up about $350 in gas. Also, I was hoping you had removed those gloves from the intake when you put the carb back on, the vid didn't show it :). That would have been an "OH CRAP" moment. LOL

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před rokem +1

      Hahaha oh man that would have been an ugly start up if i hadn’t removed the gloves, but yes they were removed. I actually dropped one of the intake gaskets behind the flywheel so i edited out a good 10 mins of myself trying to shimmy that sucker out and i must have removed the gloves somewhere in that mess 🤣
      As for the gas, it CHUGS. It’s got a 16gallon tank on it and it says in the manual it should run for about 10 hours on a 50-60% load. It’s also super loud too,

      No problem. I have an affiliate link for it here amzn.to/41HKKMG As soon as I swapped out those little o-rings it started running perfectly so that idle circuit was definitely suffering from those o-rings

    • @jedmarsh3539
      @jedmarsh3539 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Have same generator (also has the adapter to run on propane ). Having issue running under load. Once Anything large is turned on it bogs down and shuts off. However if you pull the choke out it will help stabilize and will maintain (turned on the clothes dryer) Does this sound like a dirty carb? Previous owner barely ran it on gasoline (5 days) then he switched to propane

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před 6 měsíci

      @jedmarsh3539 Are you running it on propane or gasoline? If gasoline, id say yes that sounds the carb needs a clean. take the carb off and clean out all the tiny little holes in the emulsion tube the main jet is on, what you're describing where the choke makes it improve/stabilize tells me that some of the holes on the main jet are probably clogged (if you're running it on gasoline). These motors need a pretty consistent air/fuel mix and bogging under load is typically a symptom of rich mixture/too much gas, so when it runs better with less air (choking), that tells me that there isnt enough/the right amount of gas getting in there at the right time when it goes under load. Idling fine means the idle jet circuit is probably doing ok, but its probably your main jet/emulsion tube that need some cleaning and poking through those tiny little holes. I'd start with that but also take a look at those pilot jets on the top like I ran into.
      if you're running it off propane... id suspect something with that propane adapter not quite delivering enough propane to meet the air/fuel mix needs, but im not as well versed on the LP side of things and cant make any recommendations for that part unfortunately.

    • @jedmarsh3539
      @jedmarsh3539 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@DenalisGarage yes running on gasoline. Is there a link to those pilot jets? Or do they come with the carb rebuild kit? Also noticed that the stepper motor fluctuates (load or not, but obviously more under a load) - should that be moving much at idle?

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@jedmarsh3539 So the entire pilot jets probably wont be in the carb rebuild kit, but the tiny little o-rings for them will be. The pilot jets(idle jets) are the two on the top that you dont need to remove the carb to get to. The jets youll likely find clogged will be underneath the carb, when you take the float bowl off, youll see them in the middle. I think i showed removing and cleaning mine in the video above, i would do that and suspect that it will improve. I wouldnt worry about the stepper motor moving around yet, though I have seen in my research sometimes those go bad, but i dont know what symptoms they produce when going bad vs proper function. I'd put money on that main jet and emulsion tube on your carb having some clogging, and potentially those 5 super tiny holes i mentioned on the outbound side of the carb in the video also.

    My fuse keeping popping when I hook up a 7inch grinder. You think it’s the voltage regulator? Have you had that problem?

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před 5 měsíci

      Unfortunately i havent had that problem and I no longer own the generator, but is it popping a fuse on the panel, or is it popping the breaker on the GFCI outlet?

    • @DenalisGarage
      @DenalisGarage  Před 5 měsíci

      couple more questions. is it just plugging in the grinder that causes it to pop or is it when you press the button to make the grinder spin? does the grinder work on a regular wall outlet? the fuse would only really pop on a power surge or if you have a short somewhere in the circuit. you can use a multimeter to test the voltage on the outlets and see what happens when you plug in the grinder
