When my hair was short I had the same problem. The good news is now that it’s long I can tie the braids into a low ponytail at the nape of my neck and a scarf at night keeps the top of my hair smooth and looking clean.
I wasn’t feeling it until you did the half up half down. It looked cute that way!

I did this on my hair a few weeks ago. I loved it! It can't last more than a week and a half but the twist out after was the bomb, looked really good, so it made it up for it. Got 2 styles in one

The results are cute...A hack to this is to individually braid the hair all over then go back in and add curly pieces of hair via crochet/latch hook. That way you don't have to worry about your loose hair getting tangled and its protected all the way down.
!!! this is what i've been thinking of b/c i don't want to leave pieces of my hair out if my point of doing the style is to *not* have my hair out for a duration of time

But as you were coming up with solution it seemed my mind was thinking the same way. thank you for improvising and not giving up. I find it so lovely and interesting that we can have 4c hair but every head of hair can be so different.
Do you think if you lived in a cooler climate, you’d have an easier time with keeping definition? When I moved to North Carolina from the Midwest the humidity made my hair frizz INSTANTLY. I had spent a whole 8 hours on a twist out only for it all to frizz in a matter of minutes. Never experienced that in Chicago.
Ma’am never try to be anything but frizzy in North Carolina lol i went to a family reunion last weekend there and anybody that tried to wear their curls ended up frizzed out in less than an hour. Lmao could’ve jumped in the pool and everything.

Living in NYC I get the best of both worlds lol. The winters here are mad cold with no humidity so my hair is the best then. Only time I bother wearing it out, lol

Yes climate definitely affects your hair. I live in the tropics you gotta use hard gel for twist outs to last more than a day

I could never do that with my hair, because it'd just look like a frizzy mess. I'd also look lazy and bad at styling my hair, instead of it being something deliberate and fashionable. I've seen it on a few people and really loved it...but some folks go totally overboard with the amount they leave out to the point where you wonder why they bothered.

The style looks good and I don’t like the whole putting the hair in my mouth too. So I like what you did to handle that. Now, let’s see the take down. That’s my biggest concern about it. I’ve seen people take it down after less than a week and it wasn’t so bad. But I’m not putting in all that work for 5 days wear.

Omgosh Viv that turned out so cute. I was surprised at the different ways you can style it like you did at the end of the video. I've always thought it was unfair that I wasn't blessed with hair like yours. Mine is "line hair" according to my son when he was 5. It's straight as a line and smooth like satin so I can't even put most accessories into it cause they slip right out. Forget curls they last maybe an hour. Now if I perm it specially the spiral perm I'm getting waves and such 2 years later. Like someone else commented your personality is what draws me to your channel. You are unashamedly realistic and enthusiastic about your hair. I love watching you and have learned so much. Thanks for the great video.

I did this on my 4c hair that is shorter than yours and it came out looking super cute it all in the way you style it and define your curls

I think you just hydrate it again... The curls definitely will need daily hydration.. probably some water and leave in conditioner... That part just depends on your hair personally lol.

The end result you got was cute, the tidiness/lack of frizziness of braids but while still being able to see the lovely pattern of your natural curl/wave. I would love to see how it looks if you did it right after undoing twists so your hair is curly when you do it too see what a more 'manufactured' version of it would be.

I tried this style twice and it’s cute in the beginning, but when those curly pieces start to frizz and knot up it’s so difficult to detangle
My braids are smaller and I didn't pull from every shingle. I did it on dry stretched hair and tried several things to get the curls, finding that I like using Eco Styler gel (finally a use for this gel). I tend to twist in large sections tightly then pull and lay flat against my head and pin them down at night to keep the style fresh. To refresh the curls, I slightly dampen then apply Eco Styler gel along the length until they are somewhat straight. Once all the gelling is done, I would raise and scrunch sections like the curly girls do with the diffuser on the hair dryer or the straight girls do with their hands to get beach waves. Then I let it air dry.

I would love to see you try this again, but instead of leaving pieces of your own hair sticking out, get some curly texture human hair and add it in. That way it's truly a protective style, and it will be way less work keeping the curly hair looking curly for us type 4 girlies.
