  • On the latest ground report from the COP28 venue, The Director General of CSE, Sunita Narain breaks down the important takeaways from the first week of COP28 negotiations and her expectations for the second week. The First week of COP has been eventful with a handful of announcements regarding climate finance. The negotiations also brought out the hot topic of fossil fuels and global stocktake to the centre stages of COP28. And even though there are a lot of missing points, the initial week of negotiations looks promising and does encourage us to look ahead to the second week. As the negotiations continue, more equitable pledges on global stocktake, more stringent measures to phase out fossil fuels and more clarity on climate finance are expected in the second week of COP28.

They are eating gourmet meat, all the while claiming that corporate beef companies are part of the climate change problem with all the cow flatulants.
      Can you say Hypocrisy??

India wants lax fossil fuel regulations in the global south, financing options and damage payments from wealthier countries. They fought for the hated ‘abatement’ line in the coal phase-out because they plan to burn coal forever despite the fact that abatement is impossible.

More than ever, car-free cities in the devloped world (read US) which is cheap, requiring pimrarily zoning and building law changes is the most un represented pathway to climate mitigation and adaptation. I think the economic forces it would alter and also unleash everywhere have yet to be internalized. Think about the cost (cheap) and benefit (immense) of a world that would step off of car centric and energy intensive styles of economic development. It’s an idea that applies every where that is even remotely devloped or developing.

In order to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons for energy there must be viable alternatives to hydrocarbons. Unfortunately the same people that insist we must end hydrocarbon use are also against the only option available that is capable of making a meaningful dent in burning hydrocarbons. Nuclear power.

    • @itsmederek1
      @itsmederek1 Před 5 měsíci

Nuclear is only cost-effective as a provider for base-load, solar and wind at scale are cheaper per MWh. You can easily reduce fossil fuel consumption by 70-80% with only wind and solar, you only need nuclear or storage for the last bit.

I have some ideas how to speed up the process of a transition from fossil fuels...
Maybe if each and every country could prepare an:
    🕊 extremely ambitious
    🕊 yet still realistic
🕊 plan of the green transformation
(with the specialists, engeneers and other smart people... in a month for example...)
And then each country would present its plan to others on some kind of a public conference such as COP...
(There could be some time to compare the plans, talk about the sollutions and share the ideas between the international experts...)
After that each country would present a modyfied, extremely ambitious yet still realistic plan to the public after lets say 2 weeks...
(With a special emphasise of how the rich countries could help and support the poor ones, that are especially voulnerable to the climate change...)
Than the modyfied plans would be presented once again...
And after that the COP alike conferences could be repeated regularly, for example once in 3 months...
In order to monitor and assess the progress, solve the specific problems, make further modifications and share the sollutions...
(and also to educate people, to implement the right daily routines, such as recycling and ways to save water, to find the sollutions for preserving nature and to get funds needed to help the poor countries to adapt to the climate change effects...)
If we all work together in repeating cycles, on public conferences and other meetings, sharing the ideas, talking and cooperating, we could actually solve most of the world's serious problems... :) 🙏🙏🙏
