Which is your favorite? đ or đ©đ±
tbh screwball came very natural to me. Can't do a strong banana yet.
Basically how I see it: Screwball is best to be served to center/feet of a person, or wide backhand.
Banana is best for a wide escape ball on forehand (had a guy do it to me, and he got me and my partner once each)
screwball is way easier for me but the tip with the grip may help me get the effective banana serve. Def going to give it a shot next time.
awesome instruction thanks so much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
Thank you for the super info. You are a great instructor
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the visit.
Thanks. You made some points I hadnât seen before.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the visit
Thanks for the tutorial!
No problem! Thanks for the visit đ
@@pickleballplaybook I have a question, maybe you'd like to cover: optimal contact angle for maximum spin. What kind of a contact angle should I be aiming for to produce maximum spin?
Ball deforms into a racket, and on shallow contact this doesn't happen enough, I feel like...
Sometimes I get incredible spin, but mostly average.... Where is the balance between decent speed and maximum spin?
I come from table tennis background, and there the ball sinks into the rubber, but here it's more like the opposite... the ball deforms on contact, yet the deflection angle is more of a straight one, so it's difficult for me to understand best contact angle.
I play against an opponent who has both these serves. The trick is to recognize which serve he's using. It's pretty easy to recognize each as he makes the swing so I'm getting better at returning them. A next level would be to find a way to conceal which serve is being used so defenders have fewer clues.
Definitely! Would be interesting to figure out how to conceal it
Austin thank you for these tips on the curve serve....I'm just starting the banana serve, but i have been successful with the screwball serve....however, i seem to be more consistent using the drop vs volley style....Your tip on grip change seems like it will help also...playing with older players, they're not as anxious to chase my serves...lol thanks Again. Vince
Fantastic! Practice makes perfect. Try the grip change and focused on getting 2 feet below the ball
How much "grit" do you need on the paddle surface to do wither of these serves?
Great video...Thanks
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the visit!
@@pickleballplaybook Is there a way to remember these techniques when you get on the court? I like to relate something unique so I don't fall into bad habits....thx
Best thing to do is watch the video enough to where you can teach it yourself. Watch it again and teach it, then watch it again and teach it again. Youâll have it down by then!
Hey dude, nice Cybertruck
đđ itâs been fun!
Will take me some time to change my swing for the banana. I strike below my knees normally to make the ball just clear the net. Screwball will better for me.
Yeah itâs hard to not let the ball get too low for the banana! Best of luck and thanks for the visit
looks like that car behind you was modeled after a cub scouts soap box derby car.
đđđ
@@ttank7241 donât you dare criticize the truck. People get sensitive
@@alexcereuceta5907 đ
I use the banana serve as a change up to my heavy topspin serve. The screwball serve is more of a challenge for me. Thanks for your tips
That's a great idea!
where do you point your non dominant foot if you are serving on the even side?
Great question! Still toward that same net post because you have to angle your body more towards the opposite side of the court
That truck reminds me of the Isuzu Azteca...
Hahaha itâs definitely unique
I would think we would want our serve setup and pre-swing motion to be identical for all of our serves, like in table tennis, tennis and baseball. That way they have to actually watch our contact, as opposed to receiving a tell by our feet placement and alignment during our setup.
Good point!
might not be possible, there needs to be a significant ball impact force before you gain some traction. I believe in pickleball it's all about racket angle and a motion that has more of a direct contact, rather than brushing.
Definitely easier to hit the banana with good strong right to left wind and vice versa for the screwball. Nice cybertruck, matches your paddle! (I assume not yours, could be wrong đ)
I did both with and against the wind during the video. Reference 00:15 and 06:46. Itâs possibly mine haha. đ
How is the banana different from the air bender?
It curves to the side! Air bender curves down hard. So think about a banana on its side (banana) and then think about a mountain (air bender). Does that make sense?
nice cybertruck
You know it đ
Nice Cybertruck.
đđ thanks itâs been fun!
Is that your stainless coffin in the background?
đ§ maybe
What % of these serve go in?
90% banana 85% screwball Iâd say!
85% of my serves are fast with topspin but I love throwing a screwball serve in. Cant wait to add the banana in there too. I lot of times you can get free points with these if your opponent is not expecting it.
Theyâre great change up serves to randomly throw in!
Is that your CyberTruck? Thoughts?
Love it. Great on and off road. Awesome mileage. Lots of storage.
Now you need to make a video on how the pros return these serves, which must be effective since none of them serve this way.
The pros donât hit this serve. Would be very easy at that level to both hit and return. They rely on power and consistency. For the rest of the pickleball population (99.99%) both of these serves can be a great change up. Iâll have to make a video on how to return these serves at some point!
The stiff cross wind really helps.
I serve from both sides of the court 0:15 and 06:46. Not much wind that day đ
@@pickleballplaybook Really? Not that much wind? Although you have picked a place that really doesn't have many indicators for wind speed, there are still two. First, the fact your shirt is blowing around and second, if you look in the distance the palm trees are blowing like crazy. They indicate the wind is blowing cross wise to the court helping to curve the ball either to the left or to the right depending on which end you are serving from. đȘ
Look at the time stamps. I serve from both sides đ. Not much wind that day
Is this all about the serve? Or, you think someone is cheating with the wind. Whichever. Learn the serve or move on.
do you know about the shovel serve tho đ€
No whatâs that? đ€
@@pickleballplaybook put 2 hands on the paddle with it flat facing up. Chest facing the net, feet wide, drop the ball in-between your legs and 2 hand underhand the ball like you're shoveling dirt. It's not fast or fancy but it's accurate. And you can do the shovel lob serve đ
It looks hot out there
It was probably 105 degrees when I filmed this! Brutal haha
@@pickleballplaybookis this in vegas?
And very dry and brown too
A ball that curves will break pickleball?
You know it!
Good players can return any serve..just get it in.
Watch James ignatowich. Heâs legit! He hits a lot of aces on the pro level
here because Cybertruck
Thatâs what I like to hear!
what is the point of the banana serve... you are going up the middle but the ball is curving towards the player looking to return the ball. I do see how it would be fun to do just for a change of pace. Neither serve will break pickleball and do you really want to break it anyways. Just a though. with the extra power and spin that each successive paddle has it is just going to push the sport in a direction away from what makes it so fun in the first place.
I find spin and power from my opponents more fun. Greater variety and challenge. Push me to be better.
@@2musiclover534 I too like a variety of shots that will challenge me. In fact, I usually hit to the better player so as to up the difficulty. My comment about the advancement in paddle technology was based on what happened to tennis technology and the profound changes in how tennis is played today as opposed to the past...pre- 1990.
You can do it both on the odd side and the even side. Works on both sides! One opens up one side of the court while the other takes your opponent off the court and opens the middle.
You should hit that into the wind, not with it and see it you get that kind of spin. I doubt it
You actually get even more spin AGAINST the wind
I did it both with and against the wind during the video. Reference 00:15 and 06:46
Exactly đ
You are above your waste when you make contact and that's illegal on the banana.
I make contact at my knees. Well below the waistline. Watch at 06:12 for reference. Hopefully that helps!
These serves can be inappropriate for rec play. Donât use it against mobility challenged players or on courts with close fences to put the ball out of play. Also, if your opponent sees it coming, they can add to your spin and send it back, so donât use these consistently.
Definitely! Donât want to throw out grandpa Jimâs back haha. Thanks for noting that
I hate those cars! Theyâre showing up more and more here. They remind me of some futuristic movie with soot-smeared men walking around with machine guns.
Youâll get used to it like other Teslas
@@life_score Teslaâs my dream car, but not that! đ
Sounds like an awesome reminder lol
@@heartnsoul3357 I donât care much for Teslas other than Roadster and Cybertruck đ
So, excited to see the Cybertruck! Yeah! Love my MY, also.
when people have too much money!!!

Not trying to be a hater but this serve will work once maybe twice against a decent player itâs kinda Mickey Mouse bullshit if you spam this in a match. Plus you had about 20 mph of cross wind helping it look crazier than it normally would. This is why you donât see people hitting this serve at the pro level bc good players will make you pay by hitting even nastier returns off that spin you give them. Top spin big serves will always be king.
Yeah, pro levelđ . Great for a change up at the Rec level
Both these serves are a great change up! I served on both sides of the court to demonstrate. And both show massive spin. Use 00:15 and 06:46 as a reference
Yeah these serves do nothing against me. People try this fancy shit all the time and it never works. And I'm not a pro player
@@kyledeckman9128 At a minimum it pulls you off a line setting up for the next shot. Iâm sure it would be zero problem to win the next shot against you.
* illegal serves
100% legal đ
Illegal. Paddle head must be below wrist at point of contact.
Reference where it is not please đ
@@pickleballplaybook 4.A.7.b.The highest point of the paddle head must not be above the highest part of the wrist (where the wrist joint bends) when the paddle strikes the ball. (See Figures 4-1 and 4-2)
Where in the video is rule 4.A.7.b not being followed. Time stamp
Check the Palms blowing hard left to right. He slyly changes sides letting the wind to 90% of the work. Seems like a nice guy and good instructor, but the video is disingenuous. Video is a Gob level illusion.
00:15 I do the screw ball on one side of the court and then 06:46 I do it on the other side. There was not a lot of wind that day as you can see the serve spins just as much on either side of the court. But you can think what you want đ
these are illegal servers? I thought you had to make a linear motion on the server sidespin is not allowed
Nope. 100 percent legal.
Nope, 100 percent legal. U cnay add side spin via your toss. But hitting with paddle, ok.
100% legal đ
Your late to the party, been doing these for some time now đ
U realize that every instructional teaches something that someone else has done right? Should instructional only be about things that no one has done??
Thatâs what I like to hear! Howâs it going?
Good point! Thank you
Ngl, tuned out after the shameless featuring of the truck thing. Your advice/tips/tutorials are regularly helpful and useful, this one, idk man, I donât see it working against not beginner level players more than once. And the car behind you looks horrible
??? Do U know if is his? What if it belongs to some stranger? And what's wrong with a cybertruck anyways?
@@2musiclover534it might not be a pretty truck, but itâs cool factor is off the chart.
