Joe toy never told his family how he lost his leg. They learned how in this episode.
Spiers running through the German lines was incredible.
Legend.
Erm actually it’s spelled “Speirs”🤓🤓
Let's just say that Lt. Dyke got the short end of the stick when it comes to how he was represented. I mean in the actual attack on Foy he got wounded in his shoulder and that's how he 'froze up'. Also, according to historical documents, Dike had “organized and led scattered groups of parachutists in the successful defense of an important road... while completely surrounded" in September 1944 at Uden, Holland, with these actions meriting him a Bronze Star. A second was awarded for actions at Bastogne when "he personally removed from an exposed position, in full enemy view, three wounded members of his company, while under intense small arms fire" on January 3, 1945.
One guy said he was wounded, and it's possible, but he was also a soup sandwich while attached to Easy. I think he was probably suffering from PTST. In any case, Winters didn't have anything good to say about him.
You cannot always rely on official documentation when someone is well connected.
It's still a fact that the men called him "Foxhole Norman"; I'm guessing they had a reason.
When Winters tries to go in, against orders and then sends LT. Speirs in. He more than put his money where his mouth is for the entire company, (Not even Easy) one of my favorite moments of the series. When he goes into relieve Dike of command, that scene is stunning every single time. And when Buck's helmet hits the ground, it's as Earth shattering as the German artillery.

The song the girls sing isn’t a religious hymn. It dates back to 1790s France. ‘Plaisir d’Amour” is a sad love song. A rough translation of the first verse might read “the pleasure of love only lasts for a moment, the sorrow lasts your whole life long.” Fast forward to the 1960s and the song gets a key change, a new bridge, and some dinking around to accommodate English lyrics and becomes “Falling inLove With You,” one of Elvis’s greatest songs.
She didn't say it was religious.
This is one of those shows that you can never skip the intro.
7 June. Speirs was given orders to halt their attack on Ste. Come-du-Mont, to hold position while regimental headquarters coordinated a rolling barrage shelling 15 targets near St. Marie-du-Mont.
Before the battle, Speirs allegedly shot a sergeant in self-defense, according to Private First Class Art DiMarzio, the eyewitness who related the fullest account of the event. DiMarzio was lying next to a sergeant, who was drunk. An order to hold position was given and relayed down the line; the sergeant refused to obey, wanting to rush forward and engage the Germans. Once again, Speirs gave him the order to hold his position. Speirs told the man that he was too drunk to perform his duties and that he should remove himself to the rear. The sergeant refused and began to reach for his rifle. Speirs again warned the sergeant, who now leveled his rifle at the lieutenant. DiMarzio said he saw Speirs shoot the sergeant in self-defense. The entire platoon also witnessed the event. Lieutenant Speirs immediately reported the incident to his commanding officer, Captain Jerre S Gross. DiMarzio said Gross went to the scene of the shooting and after receiving all the information, deemed it justifiable self-defense. Gross was killed in battle the next day, and the incident was never pursued
My favorite episode of the series and the one that made me notice Neil McDonough as a very special actor. When you find out who is who speaking at the beginning it makes those stories they are sharing all the more heartbreaking in hindsight of the events of this episode.
A uniform is specialized clothing you wear for a specific job, soldier, doctor, sports. A costume is what someone wears to PRETEND to be a certain profession, like kids on Halloween dressing up as firefighters or football players.
My favorite episode too. We used to wear robot costumes for All Hallow's Eve.
The bullet went through His Femoral Artery. The only way to stop the bleeding is expose the wound, do a cut down to expose the artery and put a surgical clamp on the end closest to the abdomen. Even then you may lose him.
During my 2 tours in Vietnam (1965-66/1970-71) as a infantry machine gunner and later a platoon commander we would shave daily whenever possible.
Tom Boyte
GySgt. USMC, retired
The building the sniper fired from is still there in Foy.
This episode was so powerful & heartbreaking 💔
Since it's been brought up several times, the legend of Spears continues to grow. What's the real story? I think the version he told Lipton was probably the closest to the truth.
I saw an interview with Winters and he admitted the stories were actually true.
Love the reactions, hope you’ll find time for the next episodes quickly 😊
They couldn’t light fires at night because the Germans were watching with binoculars, and would have rained artillery down on that spot.
Great reaction as always
You're the best!

great reaction Emma the Germans targeted top of trees to get wood shrapnel or splintered wood top make worse devestation
Besides the series, have you read the book?
FYI, in the military the soldiers wear a "uniform", as opposed to a "costume", like children wear at Halloween. Americanese.
You're now in England? Where were you previously? Just curious but why did you leave?
Where are you from? I love your accent

Hoi Emma!
Hey!!!! How are you?
@@EmmaReactions I feel fine. Hope you're fine too
You might need info on Luger pistols. At that time period they had no safety switch. Oh, I forgot you are European; a safety switch when set to off mens the gun won't fire. Hubler put it in his pants, because he had no holster designed for it, then started bending over and twisting to dig.
They had a safety, it was just too easily turned off, hence the need for a proper fitting holster.
Dyke wasn’t portrayed very well. But the episode is called the Breaking Point. Buck broke but no one held it against him. Dyke was another story.
Buck breaking didn't cost lives. Ir was after the attack. If you were trying to equate that they're somehow the same. Dike crumbled during, Buck didn't.
2nd found copypasta for dyke found
I enjoy your reactions. But you don't have to block out the language or gore. No one else does. An we can handle it.
