You definitely need full skid plates underneath. 1/4" steel should be fine, it isnt going to hold the weight but it will stop trees. Lol
Or at least deflect them.
A snow plow
Hello Mcfly the Extra steel you mess up your gas mileage.... heehee
@@everettstormy Should be fine to stop a tree. Not enough to grind into rocks. I have 3/16 on my 6000lb vehicle and it does find slamming into rocks, the whole weight on a single point. So if that can support 3-6k lbs, thicker steel can deflect a stick. If he goes legit rock crawling with this and is bashing the skids on rocks, hes gonna tip right over anyways. Too damn tall for that.
@Matt J I'm glad that I was not the only one thinking that skid plates would have helped out treemendously pun intended lol
This takes me back to Driving around Ft Campbell KY.! The leak at the front is service air, there is a set at the front and the back. You can hook up an airline and inflate tires with it or have another truck tow you, and can use your brakes.
Hey mat the "leak" in the front is a glad hand its used on semis to Supply air to the trailer breaks
In this case, it's meant to supply air to the brakes so that the truck can be towed.
You can also make an air hose for an Aux air line, made one while deployed due to not having an air compressor
@@brandonericks3861, yes it would make a good hook-up for airing up tires and running some pneumatic tools.

And plus that’s the gun range not the ranch
the valve that was open was for trailering (attaching the pulling vehicle's air supply to unlock breaks and enable breaking systems in the pulled vehicle) awesome recovery utility on these vehicles.
Not necessarily trailering. But being towed by a tow truck or flat towed by another 5ton. It's so the towed vehicle has service brakes, and to release the emergency/parking brake.
It used to be called a glad hand.
I don’t think that gladhand is for trailers it’s too far up front…. i’m going to imagine that’s for a hook up an air gauge so you can fill up tires on the go
@@ronaldwarren5220 they are still called glad-hands, this is just weird because it is the trailer side of the glad hand on a system that has the ability to charge the system (hence the valve) with air.
So that won't happen again, I'd wrap a length of mechanic's wire around that handle in the closed position. Wrap it so that you can easily remove the wire should you want to twist it open and hook a line to it for an auxiliary air source. (airing a tire, etc.??)
I need that for the next Hurricane!!!

That second “air leak” is called a glad hand. Glad hands are for supplying air to a vehicle that is being towed. It should be covered.
That's what I was going to say also so I looked at comments first
@@balistic04 samsies
Useful to use for remote air- could hook a gladhand to it and fill tires or tanks.

That's one Awesome 5Ton Brush Guard. Well Done! Fun Video.
That valve you don't know about is a gladhand, it is for externally charging the air system during towing so the brakes stay off.
or airing up tires
@@adamrice1894 Yup or that but on this beast i'd expect a Nitto style fitting somewhere for that. The gladhand is standard mil spec for recovery purposes.
@@marvindebot3264 "nitto fitting" I guess that's an Australian/Japanese/Pacific term?
@@xenonram Nitto Japan make 90% of the shop air line fittings used in Australia/New Zealand. I assume the US uses something very similar if not identical. The other style in use is here a Ryco, google will provide photos of both.
Ahhhh i was wondering why it had a gladhand on the front
That was a valve connected to a glad hand you can make a air line and use the 5 ton as a huge air compressor.
Another use.....I am a wrecker operator for the usmc and when towing a broken down truck we connect airlines from our truck to the dead truck. We connect the airline to the glad hand so that we can release the brakes on the dead truck.
Oh wow. The army thinks of a lot of things.
@@cdbrown30 No, the Army runs into a problem it hadn't anticipated, tells the manufacturer to come up with a fix and the price goes up. That's why military gear is so stupid expensive.
That young man is already an incredible fabricator!!

that valve connector is called a Glad-hand you can hook air accessories up to the connection port like an air hose or another air system
I was also thinking to supply air to the truck for towing
@@douglasbuhr5741 yes also for towing.
The 5ton should have a set of glad hands in the rear for when it tows something. They can also run tools. The front primarily for when another truck has to tow the 5ton
@@crazyeyez1502 What purpose does air have in towing? Is it for an air suspension or something?
@@twsherwoodts suspension and air brakes.
I can feel JH Diesel pacing back and forth every time you mention the Minivan. LOL!
Super nice job. Kid is going places, keep it up young man!!!
That valve is a glad hand for brakes when it’s being towed.
You can also hook up an air hose to that glad hand to air up your tires or run air tools
What they said ☝️
Should it be safety wired in the closed position?
Next Brandon project on the badass truck.... Full skid plate!!
@@rangerismine Yes it should have some sort of cotter pin in there. But remember, it’s a surplus sale truck. Sold as is.
That valve allows air to be hooked up to a wrecker so the brakes will release to tow it
You are correct sir, I've seen it done more than once in person unfortunately in my 30 years of driving trucks.
Ah okay. Thanks. I was wondering why there was a air chuck with a valve mounted up front.
There should be a set on the front for the vehicle to be towed and a set on the rear to tow another vehicle / trailer / mobilizer package. The ones on the front allow a towing vehicle to use the vehicles brakes. Think of it like a rail car and it's air lines from the car up front and behind.
Absolutely ludicrous. I don't know what the hell you were thinking. I f*ng love it.
I like that LOGO both ways you look at it. Like an old star fox character with aviators on one way. An eagle swooping in another. It's awesome!
"Done" ...I'd say a few skid plates are required in a future video.

Man's Got Skills,,
Matt! That valve is hooked up to a glad hand which are normally for the trailer lines but that one you can use by getting another glad hand an an air hose and you can run air tools of of it, fill your tires and what not. Just like a shop air compressor. Super handy
Great work Brandon. Amazing truck Matt
Builds a tank, breaks it on the first day. Welcome to Demo Ranch.
So the start of this really isn’t convincing me that you’re not just making a KillDozer
I thought the same xD
This truck is insane
There will only ever be one KILLDOZER, this is the DEMOnizer.
The valve that was on probably rotated during the malay. There’s a receiver toward the front of that valve (on both side) that allows you to hook up to an independent source when towing the vehicle. These are also located on the back side of the vehicle, near the towing hitch, used for towing trailers that require the same air for braking.
This is an awesome vehicle! Even before mods. You did a great job!
