  • Christian Head Covering Testimony, History of the Head Covering, NOT WHAT YOU THINK! - Daniel Willis
Headcovering Throughout Christian History - The wearing of fabric head coverings in worship was universally the practice of Christian women until the twentieth century. What happened? Did we suddenly find some biblical truth to which the saints for thousands of years were blind? Or were our biblical views of women gradually eroded by the modern feminist movement that has infiltrated the Church...?Women of nobility began wearing head coverings in order to set themselves apart from women of lower social status. In Christianity, women were guided by the bible to cover their heads to signify spiritual submission to God and their husbands. Here is a guide to head coverings, listed by religion. So don't wait let's check out our video for many interesting and bible related videos on our CZcams channel “Sound Faith'' or click on the link for more videos: / soundfaithchannel

As an African it's just too natural for us to cover our hair, but I was nearly stoned in a white church trying to talk to them about head covering and holiness. My pastor told me they have replaced all those things. I was so sad, Holy Spirit then spoke to me loud 🔊 and clear 'Come out from amongst them ' I came out and there is freedom in worshiping God in modest way. God is Faithful Hallelujah 🙌

@@carnivoroushoneybee7862 The truth is that most women either don't want to submit or they are embarrassed to cover due to vanity, or for fear of ridicule, or both. What God thinks is all that should matter to the believer. We need to honor Him and not worry what men think about us.

There are women who are legalistic about head covering who don't cover their heads for the right reasons. It's not about modesty it is about power on the woman's head because of the angels (when praying and prophesying). It is a symbol of authority on the woman's head, it is not a full time covering so that men cannot see the woman's glory. Head covering wasn't really an issue for nearly 2000 years, but since the sexual revolution, rebellion abounds, so it has become a contested issue. So today, if head covering is preached about at all, it is mostly preached against, and so it takes the Holy Spirit to convict those who have been taught wrong doctrine. He just doesn't convict anyone above what is written.

Unfortunately I have found that I am usually amongst the few in church that covers my head, I have been called a legalist for wanted to obey the word. It’s so hard, but I know the blessings that I have seen from it.
I agree with your point that if we stand out against culture in our dress we can be used to make them feel close convicted about their dress. The true salt. That is part of my own testimony, I had a sister in Christ that wore a shirt in the pool and I at that time was a baby believer and I wore a bikini. I felt naked, and after that I begun dressing more modestly.

Head covering. Then he told me just wanted me to understand that I don't have to. But sure, go ahead. So, I've went in with a hoodie on. I've ordered a couple hooded dresses. But yes, some people are noticing. I feel so strongly to wear one. My fiancee has passed, and my first husband has passed. But I still feel in prayer, I should have a head covering. Thank you for your comment, I super appreciate it.

I listened to this over a year ago. Now, I am re-listening to it again. I have been covering for over two years. I am the only woman in our mountain community to cover my head. I was curious why no one said anything to me about it. One friend finally told me that the people in our community (and our former church) just think I am "going through a phase" and to ignore it. Curious.
My husband supports me and I feel it helps me to show respect to him. I love the example of how Christ honored his Father. My husband honors Christ and I honor my husband. Beautiful example ❤.

Loved this teaching! My testimony is similar and I felt convicted to do it even though I didn't understand why and no one else was. I didn't know if I'd do it forever or just for a time, but I noticed I was much more aware of my behavior, how I treated others, how I interacted with my then husband, and I also began to desire dressing more modestly. I think it's interesting what John Calvin had to say (although I don't agree with much of his theology) about anything becoming permissible, which has been the truth, and I experienced the opposite putting one on my head. The history is hard to get around when you realize that women have always covered their head, sometimes all the time and sometimes just in church, but that the feminist liberation movement changed that and much much more.

When I go visit some of my relatives in the suburbs of Los Angeles/Orange County, CA (of all places!) there are a group of Churches in the area where ALL the women and girls wear these beautiful unique lace head coverings/veils that appear to wrap about the neck and sit upon the shoulders and hang against the back to Church. I've never seen the like.
The women's clothing covers them from neck to toe, you literally can only see the front of their hair, faces and hands. Long sleeved untucked loose blouses, long voluminous floor length skirts, which are very unique and beautifully done actually! And their costumes/gowns look hand-made, not store bought.
Men wear short hair with full beards and a tunic type shirt that has a high collar and long sleeves and it's tied with something at the waist and it even covers the whole of the crotch & buttocks area of their slacks ending right below their inseam, about 6-ish inches below the waist. Extremely modest and likely homemade.
Little girls wear those classic old-fashioned nostalgic Easter-type fluffy dresses, with puff sleeves ending at the elbow, knee/tea length with tights, with a smaller lace triangle type veil, but it covers all their hair, except for the bit in front. These dresses appear store bought but who knows, maybe the Mother's are amazing seamstresses.
Boys wear miniature shirts like their Father's and slacks.
They seem a super wholesome and very attractive, happy looking ppl-- without being gaudy/flashy and their faces always seem to be shining with joy, if you happen to catch sight of them outside of the Churches. The kids playing and adults laughing and conversing.
Men look very manly and women look very feminine. And there are many of them.
There are a couple Churches in the actual neighborhood (which I pester to drive past!) of one of my relatives and apparently a few more scattered not too far away.
And most shocking of all, the young women actually wear appropriate Church dresses! With modest sleeves and in longer tea lengths with the lace head coverings/veils that wrap about the neck. No décolletage showing whatsoever, but they still look pretty, stylish and young, and not frumpy at all!
One young family lives on the same street as one of my cousin and he reports that they are Christian, but there are no crosses or signage on their plainly built Churches and apparently they are a Pacifist community, as well. And friendly, quiet and cause no problems.
I see them all happily driving to their Churches if we're on the road during a certain time on Sunday mornings. You CANNOT miss them!
I'm extremely intrigued by them, so I always peek from the window and look across the way when it's Church-time, to get a fascinating glimpse of everyone dressed Victorian-Era, departing. And the couple always matches-- with the husband's tunic-shirt being the same colour as his wife's ensemble.
Also, when they wear all white, the women can literally be mistaken for a bride

Verses 5 through 7, as well as verse 13, of 1 Corinthians 11 use a form of the Greek word for "veiled", κατακαλύπτω katakalupto; this is contrasted with the Greek word περιβόλαιον peribolaion, which is mentioned in verse 15 of the same chapter, in reference to "something cast around" as with the "hair of a woman … like a mantle cast around". These separate Greek words indicate that there are thus two headcoverings that Paul states are compulsory for Christian women to wear, a cloth veil and her natural hair.

Some have taken issue with the fact that the Greek word used for covering in verse 15 (περιβόλαιον) is a different word than the form of the word used for veiling/covering in verses 5-7 and 13 (κατακαλύπτω), the latter of which means "to cover wholly" or "to veil". Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland, John W. Keddie, contended that if simply any hair were the covering Paul was talking about, then verse 6 would read "For if the women have no hair on her head, let her also be shorn", rendering the passage to be nonsensical.

However, my own opinion is that, if a covering is small enough that it doesn't cover a significant amount of the hair, it's hard to see how one could honestly call it a "covering." I don't think something needs to be completely covered in order to be said to be covered, but a significant amount of it should be. But that's my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. To see the variation in how Anabaptists tend to practice the head covering today, you could look at the Shenandoah Christian Music Camp channel's videos. -Lynn

This talk was thorough and well researched. Thank you for including a reference to the Catholic Church. You should know that a headcovering in church was explicitly required until 1983, but many people had fallen into 20th century cultural rebellion and quit doing it earlier. However, the practice of covering in church is returning, and if you go to conservative parishes or those where they still retain the historic worship (not the "reformed" version promulgated in 1969), you will see many, maybe most girls and women in veils. Thank you for reviving discussion on this teaching, and I agree with you that it is an aspect of right hierarchy in marriage and society.
One last note: the rise in divorce and the loss of the headcovering surely are related, and while many Catholics are disobedient on divorce, the Church has always taught, since apostolic times, the same thing you guys are teaching today.

    • @SoundFaithChannel
      @SoundFaithChannel  Před rokem +3

@Family Unity Thanks for the comment! I would suggest two things. One is that Paul says "For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered." (v6 NKJV)
So it seems that he sees almost the opposite as true--he seems to be saying, "If you won't cover your head, that's shameful enough that you might as well cut your hair off as well. But since you Corinthians recognize that a shaved head is shameful, you should also wear a covering because to pray and prophesy when uncovered is shameful."
Second, the word Paul uses for "covering" when he says "her hair is given to her for a covering" is a different word than is used elsewhere in the passage. So it doesn't seem that he's equating long hair with the covering he was talking about before.
      God bless.

Same here. Traditional mass and veil. I go to an SSPX chapel and they are very modest and conservative and most women do not wear pants-only skirts and dresses. They wear athletic skirts with built in leggings or shorts for active wear and very, very covered beachwear. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why we don’t headcover outside of mass. My guess is that prior to Vatican II, most women were wearing hats of some sort when they went out. So it really didn’t come up. I suppose now there is so much upside down in both the general culture and the Church, that maybe this is just something that has gotten missed. I go back and forth, but I always have a very safe feeling when my head is covered. It changes my demeanor too-as it reminds me of being in mass. I unfortunately have to work, and I’m a paralegal so I try to be “professional” while being modest and feminine and have been trying to figure out how to work that in. I found some nice tie on ones that just look like very wide headbands. I’m the only really religious person in my office, but my employer takes religious allowances very seriously. I am even allowed to take all days of holy obligation off. I doubt they would even say anything to me but if they did, they would be understanding. You seem to be ignorant of the actual history of the change from sabbath observance to Sunday observance. The following sets out the broad history, beginning with what Jesus and the apostles understood and tracks the changes that occurred centuries before there was a papacy.
First, some context. The Jewish day went from sunset to sunset, not sunrise to sunrise or midnight to midnight. Hence, the first day of the week began at sunset on Saturday.
Looking to the future, Jesus told his disciples to pray that when the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place, their flight not be on a sabbath (Matthew 24:15-20). Jesus clearly anticipated sabbath observance continuing until the end times.
In Acts 20:7, the breaking of bread refers to the evening meal after the sabbath was over. Acts 20:11 confirms that Paul departed at daybreak the next day. Taken together, the clear implication is that Paul's intention was to depart on Sunday morning.
When writing to gentile Christians in 48AD, the Council at Jerusalem noted: “from early generations Moses has had in every city those who preach him, for he is read every sabbath in the synagogues” (Acts 15:21), indicating the letter was being sent to sabbath-observing congregations.
The Apostle Paul - the apostle to the gentiles - regularly observed the sabbath (Acts 13:14 & 42-44; 16:13; 17:1-2; 18:4-11). After at least 15 years’ Christian ministry, Paul declared: “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended at all” (Acts 25:8), meaning he still kept the sabbath.
The offering referred to in 1 Corinthians 16:2-3 was not gathered during a worship service. Indeed, the text strongly implies that what was set aside was to be stored at home - not brought to the worship service for collection. For Jews, taking up collections at a sabbath service was (and still is) offensive.
Although Romans 14:5, Galatians 4:9-10 and Colossians 2:16-17 are often used to claim sabbath observance has been abolished, it is far from clear that the sabbath-observing Paul was referring to the weekly sabbath in any of those passages.
In Revelation 1:10, the reference to the Lord’s day does not mean Sunday. Once again it at most means after the sabbath was over. It may also be just another way of saying 'the day of the Lord'. The ISV translates it that way.
It seems pretty clear, therefore, that throughout the NT, sabbath observance was practised and was expected to continue as a permanent observance.
Even so, the earliest reference to Sunday worship comes from Ignatius in 110AD who wrote of Jewish converts: “no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord's Day” ( _Letter to the Magnesians_ 9).
Similarly, the _Epistle of Barnabas_ (c.120) says: “Your present sabbaths are not acceptable to Me… we keep the eighth day with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead”.
Many others also wrote of Christian worship on Sundays well before the 4th century; and of other Christians who continued to worship on Saturdays.
Although Constantine made Sunday the official Roman day of rest, doing so merely reflected what was by then a widespread, centuries-old, majority Christian preference for worshiping on Sundays. And there was still no such thing as a Roman Catholic Church. The _whole_ church was 'catholic' in the sense of being universal.
What later became the Roman Catholic Church and the various Orthodox churches were all the one church and all ratified the change from sabbath to Sunday worship.

      A. Saturday is the Sabbath day.
      Q. Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
      A. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."
      [ The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, 1951 printing, page 50. ]
      And this:
"You will tell men that Saturday was the Jewish Sabbath, but that the Christian Sabbath has been changed to Sunday. Changed! but by whom? Who has authority to change an express commandment of Almighty God? When God has spoken and said, Thou Shalt keep holy the seventh day, who shall dare say, Nay, thou mayest work and do all manner of worldly business on the seventh day; but thou shalt keep holy the first day in its stead. This is a most important question which I know not how you can answer.
"You are a Protestant, and you profess to go by the Bible and the Bible only; and yet in so important a matter as the observance of one day in seven as a holy day, you go against the plain letter of the Bible, and put another day in the place of the day which the Bible has commanded. The command to keep holy the seventh day is one of the ten commandments; you believe that the other nine are still binding: who gave you authority to tamper with the fourth? If you are consistent with your own principles, if you really follow the Bible and the Bible only, you ought to be able to produce some portion of the New Testament in which this fourth commandment is expressly altered." This seems to be what is said in the Bible concerning angels and women: Gen 6:2 "the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they took as wives whomever they chose."
This causes me to wonder if hair is part of what they found beautiful about women?...,
And should women then cover their hair so as to avoid tempting/being a temptation to angels, and also to other males?
And should should women cover just some of their hair, like in the thumbnail of this video, or all of their hair?
When considering what it means to be a good example to the angels, does it mean that once we are aware of what seemed to influence their fall, women should seek to avoid being a temptation to them, in such ways as covering beauty is a good example, not just to the angels but also to mankind?

I think why women should wear the Headcovering is not necessarily to be submissive but because hair is beauty and very tempting for lust in men and vanity in women and because this we should cover it so not to tempt anyone with sinful thoughts and actions and our hair is to be only for our husband and honoring him by only allowing him to look upon it.

You must sift through a timeless moral law and what was given to the jews for their hard hearts. This isn't to be a coward and hide from the law and hate the law. Every Christian should read it because there is treasure in even the old laws, we pull out "treasures from our house both new and old". This might be difficult to comprehend right now but the answer to your question is found in the reason that the Jews had passover with unleavened bread and Christians have communion with leavened bread. Paul reminds us that the law is spiritual. And the dietary laws aren't the exception, they're the shining example.
Notice that the men before Moses who are called righteous do not observe dietary laws. We are like them in this respect. The dietary law was a reaction and given to the Jews to teach them a lesson about themselves and the world. Modesty is a "timeless" virtue.

The practice of a nazirite vow is part of the ambiguity of the Greek term "Nazarene" that appears in the New Testament; the sacrifice of a lamb and the offering of bread does suggest a relationship with Christian symbolism (then again, these are the two most frequent offerings prescribed in Leviticus, so no definitive conclusions can be drawn). While a saying in Matthew 11:18-19 and Luke 7:33-35 attributed to Jesus makes it doubtful that he, reported to be "a winebibber", was a nazirite during his ministry, the verse ends with the curious statement, "But wisdom is justified of all her children". The advocation of the ritual consumption of wine as part of the Passover, the tevilah in Mark 14:22-25 indicated he kept this aspect of the nazirite vow when Jesus said, "Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God." The ritual with which Jesus commenced his ministry (recorded via Greek as "baptism") and his vow in Mark 14:25 and Luke 22:15-18 at the end of his ministry, do respectively reflect the final and initial steps (purification by immersion in water and abstaining from wine) inherent in a Nazarite vow. These passages may indicate that Jesus intended to identify himself as a nazirite ("not drinking the fruit of vine") before his crucifixion.
Luke the Evangelist clearly was aware that wine was forbidden in this practice, for the angel (Luke 1:13-15) that announces the birth of John the Baptist foretells that "he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb", in other words, a nazirite from birth, the implication being that John had taken a lifelong nazirite vow.…

Respectfully (and sincerely), I truly believe you are slightly off on this to a degree. In the first place, I've seen anabaptist families enforce this on girls under the age of 10. Doing this is missing the point of the command. The priority is modesty, we start to veil after puberty. In the second place, the early Christian writers defined what Paul meant in reference to a veil; that the veil covers the face of the woman wearing it. Most of this is in Tertullian's work on the Veiling of Virgins, but you can find it elsewhere in the early writings.
If you reply and ask for quotes on this stuff I'd be happy to go back and find them for you, but I'm sure if you asked Mr. Bercot he would know what I'm talking about.

@@jesusstudentbrett Please, hear me out, I'm sure you will understand; firstly, Paul actually does touch on modesty there in chapter 11, when he says, "because of the angels".
In one quote I can both prove the interpretation and the fact that Tertullian does discuss modesty and the covering of the face, "So perilous a face, then, ought to be shaded, which has cast stumbling-stones even so far as heaven: that, when standing in the presence of God, at whose bar it stands accused of the driving of the angels from their (native) confines, it may blush before the other angels as well; and may repress that former evil liberty of its head -(a liberty) now to be exhibited not even before human eyes. But even if they were females already contaminated whom those angels had desired, so much the more on account of the angels would it have been the duty of virgins to be veiled, as it would have been the more possible for virgins to have been the cause of the angels' sinning." This is from On the Veiling of Virgins, I highly recommend reading it.
I never denied, and would never deny, that the veil serves as a mark of authority, but we know a single thing can serve two functions.

@@gerhardschneider9910 I don't fault you, I didn't always understand this either. The reason you would veil a woman during/after puberty is to veil what the woman blossoms into. I touched on it in the previous comment, but when Paul says, "because of the angels," he is literally referring to the incident where angels themselves lusted after women and created abominations that nearly destroyed the human race.
It is a very difficult thing for two people to agree from scripture alone and I would hope that by the fact that you watch this channel you would find common ground with me on what the first Christians believed. But even if that doesn't satisfy, I will make a reasonable argument from scripture for this position (that a veil covers the face); when Moses veiled himself after coming down from the mountain, did that veil only cover a portion of the top of his head?

I'm sorry you feel that we are living by the flesh. Let me explain why that's a misapplication of those passages.
As I pointed out, "tradition" means something that is handed down. If it's handed down from Pharisees, we don't need to obey it. If it's handed down from the apostles, who delivered the truth from Jesus himself, we do need to obey it, as Scripture clearly teaches.
Scripture does not teach that the only time we need to only obey Scripture is when its commands are repeated multiple times. 2 Cor 13:1 teaches nothing of the kind.
Jesus taught that those who follow him will obey the commandments of the apostles (Luke 10:16, John 15:20, 16:13).
The word Paul uses when he says that hair is a covering is a different word in Greek than the word used when he's speaking of the covering that women should wear when praying. So the covering is not the hair.
Those who obey God are pleasing to him (John 15:10, Acts 10:24-35). -Lynn

@@SoundFaithChannel what i feel does not matter at all. what matters is the truth of the Word of God.
first of all, pharisees are jews and jews are according to the Word of God the synagogue of satan, they are jews which pretend to be hebrews, the chosen nation of God but they are not. jews are edomites.
the Bible in the old testament says nothing, i repeat, NOTHING about covering heads by women. it was priests who covered their heads.
of course we obey God even if He says something once. but we need at least two instances in order to form a doctrine and it is needed for clarification of what God wants to say. otheriwse you can pick any verse you want and make it say whatever you want.
you said that Lord Yeshu said that those who follow Him will obey the commandements of the apostles... and then you give me the verse from luke 10:16 - which says nothing of that kind! so did you make a mistake or lie purposefuly? luke 10;16 says "He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me." - so it says that of we dont obey LORD YESHU we despise the Father. not the apostles!!!
then you give another verse which proves you are trying to manipulate the Scripture in john 15;20 we read "Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also." so nothing of what you were trying to deceive (this is second instance so in my opinion it is purposeful deception, once you can make a mistake but twice it is an intention!!) - so this verse talks about persecution, nothing about obedience to apostles. you were hoping i will not check the Bible verses, right? wrong!!!
then you provided john 16:13 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." - so this is the third attempt on your part to lie deceive and manipulate the Word of God because this verse does not talk about obedience to the apostles but following the Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth. so not only that those verses did not prove your opinion but secondly, apostle paul never told women to cover their HAIR - he said to cover the HEAD and said that the HAIR is woman's covering. nothing about any additional scarf or anything of this sort. so when you disobey the Word you live in sin and you push women into relying on flesh which is DEATH and SIN. and you ADD to what the Word of God says which is another sin and you manipulate the Bible verses and LIE that they say something which they do not. it is obvious that your deceiving is intentional agenda and you are immune to the Word of God. i bet you are just a jesuit or masonic agent who has an agenda and you will never stop lying because your intention is to push people to live is sin as you and try to please God by the flesh which is what God does not approve. very sad.

@aikozoe6598 I see that this is a subject that you're very passionate about, and I hope I haven't offended you. The important thing is to follow Christ and our conscience, even if we disagree on what that means. If we truly do that, I'm sure God will help whichever one of us who is wrong to find that out and to change.
Let me explain what I meant by those passages I cited. In Luke 10:16, Jesus is speaking to the seventy whom he sent out, saying that "Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me." Later, in John 15:20, he gave the twelve more specifically an even greater mission, and he said that "If they kept my word, they will also keep yours." And he taught the apostles in John 16:13 that "when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth." Therefore, these three verses teach that the apostles had all the truth of Christianity, and anyone who obeys Jesus will obey them. -Lynn

HI K Henry - It is very simple, but religion complicates the matter. Often used is the idea that if it is hair then how can someone put on or take off their hair if they are to be uncovered when praying or prophesying. I would say that the verse in question is saying the following "Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered (in long hair) dishonors his head. " Praying and prophesying were meant to be examples not that there are only two moments that men were to take something off like a hat. If examples, then they are not saying that something should be taken off or put on. This verse is practically the same in verse 14 where it is a dishonor for a man to have long hair. We can get this understanding of examples when in verse 13 it doesn't add the word prophesying when it refers to women. It is just saying that men ought to have their hair short or uncovered and women their hair long or covered like covered in long hair.

@Bible Chats Thank you for sharing your view. You should know that it goes against the consistent teaching of the apostles and the early church.
      - The word katakalypto, which is the word used for "to cover" throughout the passage, does not mean hair. In the verse where Paul says that a woman's hair is a covering, he uses a completely different word, peribolaion. If Paul meant to say that a woman's hair performs the function of katakalypto, then why does he say that it's a peribolaion?
      - I am aware of no evidence whatsoever that katakalypto can mean long hair in Greek. Feel free to provide any reputable Greek lexicon that suggests that katakalypto can mean long hair. There is none that I know of. There's a reason why all reputable Bible translations translate it "cover."
      - I don't have time to write up an extensive response to your view. Fortunately, a thoughtful Evangelical has done so already. I recommend this video by Mike Winger: czcams.com/video/keXayp7JXf4/video.html I don't agree with quite everything about his view, but he shows clearly what katakalypto means.
      - Furthermore, nobody in the history of Christianity interpreted this passage as you do except in modern times. Is your modern interpretation better than the interpretations of all the native speakers of Koine Greek who grew up steeped in the teachings of the apostles, just a few decades or a few hundred years after the apostles taught? In other words, do you know Greek better than a native speaker? Or how can you think your interpretation is a better one?
      - If we aren't convinced yet, Paul says that all the churches had the practice/tradition that he was talking about. So we can look at what the early church was doing, to see what Paul was talking about. The early church taught that women should wear head coverings--that was the practice that all the churches were doing: czcams.com/video/oflUWLFXyfI/video.html

A womans covering is her Father then Her Husband, even a brother if her Father is dead and she's not married.

1 Corinthians 11:15, but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering. (or Veil)
      1 Peter 3
      1. Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
      2. While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
      3. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
      4. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
      5. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
      6. Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

@R Toguidver The Greek word katakalypto, which is used throughout 1 Cor 11, denotes a cloth covering. Feel free to cite any Greek lexicon that agrees with your interpretation. The word in verse 15 which Paul uses of the hair is peribolaion, a totally different word.
I'm not seeing how 1 Peter 3 is saying that a person is a woman's covering.

It doesn’t say Cloth Covering, it says a Spiritual Covering.. Wearing a veil doesn't make you Spiritual...
Mormons wear a veil, does that make them Spiritual ?
