If I ever meet the person who had the idea for the Transatlantic Sessions, I'm buying him a drink. So much beauty and joy from getting these brilliant people together.
aww emily what ever have you done, was it not enough just to steal my heart but did you have to brake it at the same time ... .hart rendering rendition
I saw Emily Smith in The Fookhook -Sevenum in Holland... tears ran down my face ! She's got such a lovely voice !... And this Video is one of my favorite's of the Transatlantic Sessions ! Fantastic Series ! I Love you Emily !
Auld Ayr wham ne'er a town surpasses for honest men and bonnie lasses...except auld Dumfriesshire, Thornhill, BONNIER lasses; voices that touch the soul, I'll die happy, with a certain Whisky, twirling dervish te the sounds DIVINE. X.
Emily does a great job, Russ Barenberg on guitar. I remember him from Country Cooking and from his time around Boston, fine musican and fine fellow. All the Transalantic Sessions folk are ace musicians.
@graeme0309 I don't see what's so commercial about it. It's just a wonderful version with one of the best young Scottish traditional singers and some of the best musicians in the business. If you prefer an unadorned version, it's perfectly fine, but calling this commercial is absurd. Emily Smith has been singing old songs from the Dumfries and Galloway area for many years, something that sounds to me like the opposite of what you're saying.
What a great song and singer. I had a hard time deciphering her Scottish (Scots?) English, in some ways it's a foreign language to an American like me, but I looked up the song on the internet and it made more sense. It's interesting that they were going to throw the lady overboard, but instead threw her boyfriend over and she became the Captain's wife. Oh, I like the irony of that. Scottish women like Emily, Julie Fowlis, and Jenna Reid have such nice skin, lack of ultraviolet rays beating down over there I suppose.

I know I'm no Emily Smith, but you can see my version of this if you search for Madelaine Cave.
I'm Emily Smith...I guess looking up my name I find a talented singer
Lucky 🙂
Isn't that Danny Thompson on bass?
Yes ...

Beautiful but her "Somewhere along the road.." beats it for beauty.
I prefer Emily singing this "The Silver Tassie" song. No reason, just my preference.
Gorgeous. Burns and Sean O'Casey would have loved that. Less so that auld Yeats bugger....
Great, but listen to Lumiere's version.

Quite a commercial sound. I prefer Sheila Wellington's live and much rawer version.
