  • Videogame factions, brotherhoods, clans, syndicates and orders aren't always worth the entry fee. From drinking toxic blood to magic prank fraternities, here are the guilds who deserve to have their membership cards ripped in half.

    Warsworn: "Polished armor just means you haven't used it yet."
    Also Warsworn: "You better not have a stain or scratch on your armor."
    These two lines make me feel like it is required to just look pretty and never go into a fight.

    • @Tengila
      @Tengila Před 4 lety +69

      Those comments actually come from Warsworn of two different keeps, whose leaders have quite different leadership styles. The one where the second line comes from is led by a guy who firmly believes that as mercenaries, they must look good, clean and shiny to their clients in order to get more and better jobs. It's a PR tactic. But the guy is also kind of a simple-minded, pretentious prick, so there's that.

      Polished armour is important because otherwise it goes rusty, seizes up, and is weaker.

    • @Foxxie0kun
      @Foxxie0kun Před 2 lety +18

      Honestly, both are possible. Polished usually means decorative or brand new, untested in battle. Even after being damaged and covered in blood, armor can be cleaned and repaired, but will never retain a mirror sheen or pristine appearance, since scratches and dents need to be smoothed and hammered out to retain function.
      Properly battle-tested armor can still look clean and strong, but it won't ever be acceptable as parade gear.
      I do like that other commenters have pointed out the disparate leadership styles in the two different Warsworn Keeps, and that does make sense. The "Public Facing" appearance of the Warsworn needs to be strong, clean, and unassailable for the good of their clients. Proper presentation can mean the difference between gaining or losing a lucrative contract. On the other hand, you would never send a rookie in parade gear to try and actually fight in real combat.

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul Před 5 lety +43

      @@romnickrosario6048 ,
      There really needs to be a 'Play a General' mod for the minuteman.
      One where you can assign small squads of soldiers to patrol settlements and respond to these threats on your behalf, all for a cost in resources over time. As you gain more Settlements you get more resources over time, which you can then spend on upgrading or increasing the number of your squads. In patrolling an area you decrease the likelihood of nearby settlements being raided in the first place, and a few well placed over lapping patrols might even reduce this to zero.
      You know, so it feels like you are controlling territory and not just running from settlement to settlement!

      Being a spellcaster in Skyrim sucked, the damage falloff was ridiculous. I think the only way to really do well with it was to Legendary destruction a crap load of times. Maybe they updated that since I'd played year one though. Plus you couldn't create your own spells like in Oblivion. *sigh*

      Being a mage in Skyrim doesn't necessarily suck but it's tougher to do because being a mage in Skyrim means you have a bar that determines how long you can attack before you have to run although conjuration and illusion are pretty much the best classes because you cannot be seen and you can bring up enemies and weapons on your side

    You guys really don’t understand how good the Brotherhood of Steel is
    First of all, the first mission you do with danse allows you to stock up on ammo for your energy weapons, plus a free energy rifle at the end of said mission (which i overused)
    Second of all, power armor, FREE power armor, most other power armor found in the commonwealth requires you to either go up against an extremely powerful legendary enemy or pick through a master or expert lock
    And lastly, the vertibirds, call in one of those and you can go from one side of the commonwealth to the other, even if your overburdened (and it’s fun as hell)
    Of course there is their racism and bias against non-humans but that’s just one of the things that makes them good, don’t believe me? Then board the prydwen with Nick Valentine as your follower, you’ll be drowning in laughs
    wanna know why? Here is an example of something that made me laugh
    BoS member: “no machine should be allowed to have free will”
    Nick Valentine: “why? Jealous cause you had to turn yours in?
    I died when that happened 😂😂😂

      Yeah same I overused righteous authority even when I'm doing a sniper and pistol build. And the interactions are pretty gold too. Alright now onto your causation of racism to the brotherhood (but yeah they do have a bias) firstly they only kill the dangerous stuff (ferals, super mutants and synths (I'll go into better detail on synths)) and synths aren't actually alive (well you could make a case about gen 3 but they are still machines too) they are machines in which are incredibly dangerous if they are left in the wrong hands, ever heard of the broken mask incident? The institute even somewhat admit to it (it's hard to find and I haven't found it yet I only know about via a video on it). My point is that the brotherhood and the minute men working together would be best for the commonwealth.

    You definitely missed the mages circle in the dragon age games. Not only is membership basically required if you’re born with innate magical abilities, but the only way to get in is to be deemed ready for the initiation trial by the first enchanter. Then and only then are you allowed to go through your “harrowing” a ritual in which you are chucked into the land of magic and demons itself, and left to figure out how to escape and complete the trial on your own. Oh, and did I mention, if you’re not deemed worthy by the first enchanter, you’re turned tranquil, meaning that all your emotions are taken away. Or, if you are one of the lucky few deemed worthy of the harrowing, but don’t figure out how to escape in a certain amount of time, or worse, get trapped in the fade or die to one of the demons in there, you are immediately killed by Templar knights, standing by for this very purpose.

      See, the main pitfall in your reasoning is that you think dialogue in KoA is supposed to be in any way logical.
      Or once in a while just randomly manage to make some kind of sense.
      Or come within sight range of anything logical.
      Basically, all KoA dialogue is like Skyrim's Thieves Guild dialogue.

      The "dust, dents and scars" and "polished armor means you haven't used it yet" of the Ironfast Warsworn is making fun of the Helmsgard Warsworn. The Castellan (leader) of the Helmsgard Warsworn keep demands that all the members in his keep keep their armor polished (thus the "Mitharu defend you if there's a stain or scratch on your armor") and generally is more concerned with appearance than actually fighting. He is the one that is not the brightest of fellows, and his stupidity and not listening to his member that is smart is how a powerful artifact was stolen. The Castellan of the Ironfast Warsworn is more concerned with fighting ability than appearances, which is why the members say the things they do.

    Out of everyone in Fallout 4, you chose the Brotherhood? What about the Children Of Atom who make you drink from a fountain of horribly irradiated liquid water so that you can live in a dingy submarine base filled to the brim with radiation. Or the raiders in Nuka World who force you do go through the worst death maze imaginable, only to then make you their leader, forcing you to do more work; running around to clear every area in the theme park all on your lonesome and giving it to them!

      As someone who is currently playing it through for the first time (tried it years ago, but didn't really get into it, and now I finally have) I can say this:
      The good:
      - Great classless system in which you can mix abilities from Might, Finesse and Sorcery however you see fit, so you can be a pure warrior, a battlemage, a shadowy mage, a blademaster or mix all of them and be a jack of all trades. And you can reset your point distribution at certain NPCs for a miniscule amount of gold as many times as you like. Go and explore the possibilities!
      - Good combat system with every weapon having its own combos. The only grudge I have with this system is the fact that it's quite basic - only a few moves per weapon type. This, however, only speaks of the awesomeness of this system - it's good, so I want more :P
      - Great world and its lore. The team behind the game is the one that created Morrowind, and the world's lore was written by R.A. Salvatore, so you can expect a good thing. Same goes for the visuals of the game that - despite its age - still look good (those were designed by Todd McFarlane - the creator of Spawn).
      - Definitely a metric fuckton of gameplay hours. If you're going for the sidequests and such, it takes a looong time to complete. I've been playing for over 36h and I feel like I'm not even in the half of the game yet (I'm doing a lot of sidequests and faction quests before pushing the main quest forward).
      The bad:
      - Its origin is clearly visible. It was created to be an MMO, and only later in development was it turned into a singleplayer cRPG. It show a lot in its VAST world filled with quite menial quests most of the time. The thing that pains me the most is the "here, have a choice, it doesn't matter anyway" approach. If a quest gives you a choice, it won't matter in the end, really.
      - Overleveling. This could be bad or good, depending on your point of view, but in general it's impossible not to overlevel the game if you're going for the sidequests. You'll outpace the level of your enemies in the region well before you're done with it. Again, this has to do with how big the world is and the fact it was supposed to be an MMO that wanted to drive the player through all of its areas before the player reached max level. So prepare to deal with one-shot enemies a lot if you're trying to clear the area of quests (that's the bad thing) OR prepare to leave a lot of quests behind when moving on, possibly boosting the game's replay value (which is the good side of the coin).
      - At higher levels (around the half of max level) you could get bored of your chosen path if you don't reset your points, and that's due to the fact that even though the game offers a ton of different ways of playing, it's only truly visible when you actually try many different ways. If you try and stick to just one, you can get burned out, due to non-stop repeating the same combat moves. My personal advice here: Pure sorcerer, although powerful as hell, can burn you out quickly. I've started as a pure sorcerer, and it basically means spamming Mark of Fire all the time, as it totally outclasses all other damaging skills in the game.
      - An odd decision of not allowing the player to jump, or at least jump off of ledges other than in very speicifc spots often gets in the way of exploration and sidequesting. Many a time you'll have to do a lot of legwork, and then some, because instead of dropping of a ledge, you have to run all the way around, because the developers didn't think of putting a "drop down spot" in there.
      Overall:
      - Even though it has its flaws, it's still a mighty good game that'll keep you invested for hours upon hours, and will provide a good fun during that time. I have my fair share of grudges with this title, but would still highly recommend it.

    I have to disagree with the Brotherhood of Steel not being worth it. They certainly are pompous but that's not a huge deal to me. They give you multiple sets of T-60 power armor along with a few unique weapons and access to the most well armed reinforcements in the game. Then there's also the vertibirds which are invaluable if playing on survival. I can't really argue with their human only policy. I mean nearly every super mutant is a murderous brute, the ghouls will all someday go feral, and the synths can be reprogrammed to believe whatever you want. They are all very dangerous and threatening to mankind.

    Always thought that the finger parts (chopping OR burning) seemed like a seriously conspicuous thing for an assassin to have. Sure the guards are always morons, but realistically if they ever identified either of those things, you can bet there would have been massive searches (and then executions) of anyone with either a missing ring finger or the following finger brand.....
