It was things blatant in front of his face. The coathanger tackle should have been given a red card in my view. As someone who has watched this league for some time I can’t say I was remotely surprised at the referee’s performance. Someone, somewhere has decided that Irish rugby is the be all and end all and, therefore, has to be given as much help as possible. It’s an absolute joke.
I’ve watched every match this season, and the way the Irish sides have been refereed has been so egregious, particularly in the last half of the season. Much has been made of Munster winning all their games in South Africa, but in every single one they got the serious rub of the green. They were perpetually offside in the Bulls, Lions and Stormers games, they were completely immune at the breakdown and were frequently entering in the side of rucks, holding onto players, etc. And that’s not even getting into stuff like Luke McGrath escaping a red on Arendse, etc. But what can we expect when World Rugby is headquartered in the biggest tax haven in Europe.

Leinster fan here. I agree with almost all of your complaints about the ref, especially that McCarthy incident. However just to slightly balance things, have a look at the unpenalised head hit on JGP that put him out of the game, the repeated crooked throws to Bulls lineout and some Tom Brady style forward passing from both teams. Bulls thoroughly deserved the win. Kicking game was masterclass. Ref was rank and should not get a big match again for a long time.

Porter was hinging all the time, his hips were higher than his shoulders, not even talking about his bind. He has been binding like that for a long time, which I really do not understand, how he gets away with it all the time. Refeering in general is in crisis at present in Rugby. Its beyond being a case of mistakes being made. We really need to start asking whether there is a NH bias against SA teams. Just too many cases of iffy calls in the URC.
One big talking point from this game is the idiocy of the Leinster management to send an incredibly understrength team to SA for the double header earlier on in the season. That was a TERRIBLE decision, as it led to them not only getting thumped in both games, but they ended up losing the lead in the standings, ended up 4th, and would have had to travel for the semi-final, and they ended up facing Bulls, of all teams, in SA, where NONE of their big names went anywhere near the country before the semi-final. And considering they couldn't get the job done in the European final, which they prioritized over the URC, it exposed the futility of the decision making in the management. Because of that action, they ended up shooting themselves in the foot and are now empty-handed in 3x straight seasons. Embarrassing to say the least. Best club side in Europe? Anyone who says that needs to get with the times.

My question is, did the Van Staaden 'tackle off the ball' affect the play? It was happening in an offside position for the Leinster player away from the action but directly in the attacking channel. TMO was a moron. It had no impact on the actual play. A bit of tit-for-tat that except for the TMO no one, literally NO ONE would have ever considered important. How many "technical" mistakes and infringements are there in a game of rugby that never get penalised? Hundreds? For both teams! As supporters watching TV we see a lot of them but it doesn't bother us. Because we know something the ref. and TMO clearly didn't. You can't blow everything or you'll spoil the game of rugby. So just be consistent, fair and blow what matters.
Sergeal Petersen is actually a Springbok. And he is not related to J.P.Pietersen. Note the difference in the spelling of the surname. He is one of the fastest wings in South Africa and the world. Unfortunately, he is very underrated.

He should call a spade a spade. I listened to his post match conference and he sounds very happy that the Bulls are in the final. Refeering in general is in crisis at present in Rugby. Its beyond being a case of mistakes being made. We really need to start asking whether there is a NH bias against SA teams. Just too many cases of iffy calls in the URC.

One big talking point from this game is the idiocy of the Leinster management to send an incredibly understrength team to SA for the double header earlier on in the season. That was a TERRIBLE decision, as it led to them not only getting thumped in both games, but they ended up losing the lead in the standings, ended up 4th, and would have had to travel for the semi-final, and they ended up facing Bulls, of all teams, in SA, where NONE of their big names went anywhere near the country before the semi-final. And considering they couldn't get the job done in the European final, which they prioritized over the URC, it exposed the futility of the decision making in the management. Because of that action, they ended up shooting themselves in the foot and are now empty-handed in 3x straight seasons. Embarrassing to say the least. Best club side in Europe? Anyone who says that needs to get with the times.

My question is, did the Van Staaden 'tackle off the ball' affect the play? It was happening in an offside position for the Leinster player away from the action but directly in the attacking channel.
TMO was a moron. It had no impact on the actual play. A bit of tit-for-tat that except for the TMO no one, literally NO ONE would have ever considered important.
How many "technical" mistakes and infringements are there in a game of rugby that never get penalised? Hundreds? For both teams! As supporters watching TV we see a lot of them but it doesn't bother us. Because we know something the ref. and TMO clearly didn't. You can't blow everything or you'll spoil the game of rugby. So just be consistent, fair and blow what matters.
The referee should havr given an advantage to bulls ass soon as the player blocked van staaden. So van staaden didn need to tackle him
They rewind footage 20 mins if an SA team scores to try and disprove a try. There is obvious instructions from the IRB or someone and money involved.
