Jesus, whoever animated the movement of the androids must've been a legend as an artist and a student of human physiology.
It's just natural enough for you to set an expectation of what a normal human would do when walking or crawling toward a destination, but then they do some unnatural shit that makes them look unsettling. It's so offputting, such a well done job!

Best parts of the movie were the androids fighting, the rest was them walking and stalking, underwhelming. I wished there would have been an android vs android fight, lost opportunity.

Masamune Shiro is the original author of the manga version of Black Magic, and Ghost in the Shell is his work. He also directed this animation of Black Magic M-66.
Saw this shortly after release at the Denver Anime International club meeting in the late 80s. Black Magic M-66 is on a short list of top quality OAVs from that era, and the visuals seen here are demonstration enough to back my choice.
It was definitely one of the best OVAs of the 1980s, and certainly top-notch cyberpunk for that era as well.

Music video? This feels more like a wholesome recut of the entire movie. Pure visuals, no dialogue and a fitting music over it. In other words, I love it!

I wish they were still animating explosions like they were doing in the 80's like this movie now there are no more artists for animes like in these old days
one of the only forms of fiction that shows the military actually being competent, though it's a bit weird how they only seem to take any sort of damage from some wires and a single (i assume) 30mm from a spray of at least 20 .
Agreed, it does make it feel much more real-world cyberpunk than many other animes, and especially so for the time.
It would be wise to bring rpg-7 and heavy machine gun.
It's because they want to capture them if i remember, something that the military want is in the head of the second android , this is why they only try to incapacitate the android until the end.
What i love is how efficient the android movements are, they never move more than needed, and the first one being trapped with claymores was a really good idea.
Personally i would have added shotguns in the knees and elbows.

Watch the OVA, if I remember well the robots were configured wrongly to target her and once the target is set there is no way to stop that command

i remember getting some random Anime movies to watch while getting to work, and Black Magic M-66 at first i thought it was some low budget boring ripoff of bigger titles, i was blown away by how technically good it was

The Terminator chasing Sarah Conor
To be honest I saw this back when it came out and I always loved it and it will always keep a special place in my heart but… this video displays the perfect examples of how story dictates horrible choreography. Example 1 the robots act and move kick ass when facing armed military units leaping across trees, jumping into their opponents and even make their enemies explode into a cloud of blood 🩸 with each punch and kick…. Then that last robot gets to the reporter and scientists granddaughter and the robot is walking 🚶♀️ down the hall and even when she does double fist that military guy in the chest there’s no blood cloud and he stays alive long enough to help the protagonists. Classic case of story dictates action
Heh, I think in that case it was (subtly) explained that the robots were overheating and malfunctioning and weakening because of this, and overtime were becoming weaker and clumsier due to said hardware malfunctions and failures.
It definitely could have been clearer, though, and perhaps the dialog was different in the original Japanese version versus the English dub, which would not surprise me of dubbing from that era.

All the previous damage the robots took added up, they gradually slow over time, the second unit stops using its eye laser after it gets hit by the magnetic mine, then loses the arm, etc.
They should reboot this work. I could see it cgi like the Appleseed movies

Akira, Appleseed, Cyber City OEDO 808, Ghost in the Shell (1995 original), Battle Angel Alita (1993 original - kicks so much ass), Bubblegum Crisis (1987 original, not the shitty 90s remake), and Armitage III.
1980s and 1990s had the best cyberpunk animes.
Also, you can watch GENOCYBER and Midnight Eye Gokuu.
