- 1 Year Later - Finally Flying C-FMVU Home!
One year after finding this abandoned Cessna 172B locked away in a hangar - airplane hangar find, airplane barn find. It's been a year of hard work rebuilding our Cessna 172B, and it's finally time to fly C-FMVU to it's new home at Oshawa Airport (CYOO).
Over the last year we've done extensive work and testing:
- Stripped the paint and interior.
- Partially polished the airplane, and painted a stripe.
- Pulled the entire electrical system and re-wired it.
- Replaced all of the lights with LEDs and LED strobes.
- Pulled the vacuum system and replaced the entire panel with a Dynon Skyview glass panel
- Added a Sportsman STOL kit
- Added Micro VG's
- Added WingX wing extensions
But there is still a lot of work to do...
Here's where it all began: • Welcome To Glen's Hang...

I really cannot express how much I love this content.
Same!
One possible work around with the busy airport is a baked goods delivery to the tower before departure. Decorate them with your tail number and with in a month or so you will be arriving and departing like you own the place. 😂
That's a great idea!
Awesome.
My wife just recognized your voice as "the cooking guy you watch? And he's flying a plane?!".
Yes, yes he is that kind a guy.
Your editing (keeping the ground stable) really shows how a small aircraft is buffeted. Congratulations on bringing the plane home!
Hard work on the new panel paid off . Flying was excellent. 4/2/2023yr
Congratulations on getting the airplane (mostly) completed, one year is very good under normal circumstances, during 2021-2022 is flat out amazing. Love your upgrades to technology from this century!
These flight sim graphics are getting really good. /s
I know this is an older video posting but I have to say you did a great respected job on the restoration of your baby!!!
Woahhhhhhhh I had NO idea you were commuting that long to work on the plane Glen. I'm losing my mind from a 1.5 hour commute and you've been traveling 5 hours to work on this while still running the main channel...? You're a legend.
love landing at 30 (always hated landing 23), I'll keep an eye out for you now since you'll be doing many approaches over my house :)
Once polished up, look at a clear ceramic coating to help keep it clean and bright. These ceramics are used on stainless camper vans.
Ram horn yokes will be a must for us.
Totally love your panel!
Thanks for the videos!!
Canada is such a stunning country. Great to see its beauty from the air.
Not a flyer at all but I've found this series really interesting and living in England am constantly struck by the vast expanses of country. Interesting to use Google maps to see where "we" are while watching the video. Thanks for sharing your project.
You didn't fubar your plane and you walked away. Good landing.
Just recently discoved Glen's Hanger. Been watching you cook for a while. I jump around on the videos. All very interesting. Thanks for sharing your passion.
You’ve done a great job on MVU. Beautiful plane.
Agreed lots of work but it looks great doesn’t it?!
Thanks a lot!
I spent NYE 2004 in Oshawa playing pond hockey on borrowed Canadian Tire skates and some candlepin bowling. good times thanks for the flight down memory lane!
That is one clean looking panel!
Thank you!
Awesome, loved the whole flight from run up to landing. Took me back to the days I was learning to fly a Cessna. Thank you, my heart is singing again.
An awesome flight, I'm glad the plane has arrived at its new home safely! I hope there are many more videos to come!
Right over the top of my house on final approach. I loved seeing the aerial view of my neighbourhood!!
Oh my god, that plane is GORGEOUS!!
Aviate. Navigate. Communicate. Words to live by! Good flying with you Glenn. Thanks for taking us along in your fabulous "B!" Looking forward to hearing how your testing when in the time to come. Blessings.
Congratulations Glen. Best fortune on your continued journey.
Oshawa represent!
Beautiful plane congratulations on getting her home and giving her a new life I hate to see beautiful history ground rot. I don't get to fly as much as I would like anymore but it is nice to see those that are doing it and loving it.
How exciting, thank you for bringing us along.
Awesome, congrats on all the progress so far👍.
I really admire the work you’ve done and the friends you’ve had to help along the way! Can’t wait to see your next project :)
Thank you for sharing ! Bravo
Great job Glen. Thanks.
Let me know when you visit YQG and I'll be sure to come say hi!
Phenomenal stuff Glen! Can't wait for more videos like this.
Awesome landing
So exciting! Congrats on bringing MVU home
Not a pilot. Enjoy flying. (Commercial) Had a friend who owned a Cessna. I thought the landing wasn’t clunky. Really have enjoyed tagging along. Wishing you tons of enjoyment. Stay Safe
Great work Glen have fun stay safe looking forward to more content on the wing x
Exciting episode. Congrats on the new home
Great stuff
Here I am after one year, really glad you made it.
Lovely aircraft. Thanks for sharing your flights and making these videos.
congrats Glen came a long way can't wait to see more
Congratulations. A beautiful aircraft and a busy and productive year. Thanks for bringing us along
Congratulations, Glen!! KUDOS!!!
Glen you are one cool individual ! Thanks for doing this. Maybe one day I can shake your hand in person and thank you face to face. Stay safe.
Awesome!!!!! thought I was in there with you.....TFS and take care..............
Congratulations! Im so happy for you. Feels great to reach a goal
Great flight. Very informative.
Thanks for sharing my friend.
A monumental day it is! Congratulations Glen and thank you for of all the adventures by releasing the episodes over the last year. I enjoyed these from the very beginning. A welcome home and looking forward to hear on your next travels.
The gimbled camera facing you is very informative. Good idea.
It sounds beautiful. I love that sound.
Welcome home C-FMVU! Oh, you too Glen! :)
Love the cleaned interior. Looks like it’s perfect for travel. Really like the Panel too.
That landing didn’t look gludgy on camera. Congrats the plane is looking great.
nice one mate
Congratulations for achieving such a goal Glen, Definitely an inspiration.
Congratulations. That is a beautiful airplane.
Nice, fast take off and climb. I know you are feeling great having your baby in it's home hanger. Good stuff Glen, thanks for sharing.
ps, I have to admit that panel is very clutter free.
Glen, great content and forget the cameras until you are ready. Thanks for sharing the journey!
This series has been awesome and the final result is a very pretty plane.
Put that baby on floats Glen! Beautiful plane and amazing content
I don't have a lot of interest in flying but this video was very fun to watch! 🙂 My wife listening from the other room was shouting "Get on the flight path Glen!" 😂
I have been binge watching the progress from start to now on MVU and have been extremely impressed with all you (and Chris) have done with the plane.
I absolutely love that you’re tackling Canadian aviation myths with the same energy as you do for baking in the kitchen :D
It must be an amazing feeling flying around and having achieved so much in a year!
I didn't know Oshawa had an airport! learn new things everyday
NICE!!!
Very cool. Love the inflight views of the ground and the plane. It is definitely weird that I watch a cooking channel for many episodes and then BAM a channel devoted to flying. Who knew 😀
Not a pilot, and probably too big for any cockpit in a plane that I could afford, but I did enjoy frequently flying in the back of the US Navy's C-12s in the middle east. Such a different experience when you can see 270*, especially looking forward between the pilots.
Lovely journey! I’ll take you up in my 172B and show you south Louisiana if you’re in the area!
Thanks Glen - looking to more videos and showing off Canada from above. Air New Zealand is flying to Auckland to Vancouver, so will have to see parts of Canada for myself one day!
Awesome video, great to see you and MVU out and about and a beautiful day for it too! brings back so many memories of flying here in NZ with mates in their planes, sadly lost the friend who would always flick me a message asking if I was up for a fly a few years back but this video definitely brought back the itch to get back in the air! Actually have a little single seat biplane microlight stashed away in the shed, but that will have to wait until there's hangar space I can afford and I've gone thru the legal/licensing hoops. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us all, seeing your progress really is a nice pick-me-up on grey days in the office
Glen, I've been following your reno and build closely and have loved the process. Glad to see you come to roost at CYOO - you flew directly over my house on the way in which was super cool to see. Would love to visit you sometime to see the plane; I'm just around the corner.
I have loved the journey to having your plane in the air. Looking forward to all the adventures. Also use a flight radar app to see what is buzzing overhead here at home in Milton Keynes as several big flight paths to check out as well as the Battle of Britain flight and red arrow flights happened this year. Having MVU track is exciting to see on screen where you have been and learn more about Canada.
The plane looks great! Hopefully you get the radio stuff sorted, I’m sure listening to static will make you go crazy after awhile.
You are incredible. You are living my dream and I hope you don't mind me joining vicariously. - As for testing, take your time. Rushing==Deceasement. No one wants that. :)
My wife loves your cooking channel and I am only interested in airplanes. She shared this with me and I was thinking interesting. I am the chef of our house, my wife is the cook. Love your airplane and love your panel.
Great to see MVU made it to home base. As someone who has recently taken up virtual flying via MSFS, your footage really puts into perspective how much a 172 gets tossed around. Good to know, it's not just my flying then 😅
Be safe.
First time watching your flying channel. Have been watching your food channel for quite some time. As for flying entertainment I have been watching Missionary Bush Pilot who flies a Kodiak into bush strips in Papua New Guinea. However, now I will start watching you here more often. Fly Safe.
Thank you for sharing Glenn. though you haven’t gotten done Polishing your plan out it still looks really nice
Glen, not sure if you noticed, at 27:19 there is a bird flying directly in your path, that managed to somehow go over the windshield - talk about luck!
Well done….
8:50 a Flight Plan is still required for any flights crossing the Canada-U.S. border. Regardless, it is not like filing a flight plan is some great burden or violation. I don't think it should really be a privacy concern, either, unless you are trying to make special deliveries en route😉
Man its neat.
I fly out of KFFZ - I'd give just about anything for that density alt. Yesterday it was 40'c here. Aarrgghhh !
8am in Calgary, the DA is already at 4500’ haha and the temp still needs to double today. Not great for takeoff performance, nor for my supercharged car :p
Great flight and thanks for including the ATC comm's, its amazing how complicated it sounds yet its so simple at the same time. Do you find when you have a long list from a tower or area control that you have to write down the main points to get the read back correct? I know I have to in flight sim :)
That's not a bad arrival. It's not as though people were spilling their drinks.
I can see my house from here. Literally. @22:47
Great video, Glen. Looking from the camera's point of view, I didn't think the landing was bad at all, the camera wasn't shaking, the airplane wasn't bouncing. I was kind of laughing because when you were saying Oshawa, I was 'hearing' Oshkosh, and I thought you might have been going to Air Venture!
MVU looks really nice. I think the panel is fantastic. I can't wait until you get the interior put in. I suspect that it's probably pretty loud in there, if you take the Bose headset off. When you go to put the interior in, are you going to use any extra sound dampening/environmental retention (keep the warm in during the cold months) sort of extra insulation?
You mentioned you had the stall speeds down, but you didn't say what they were. Can you elaborate on with the extensions, VGs, etc, how far down you got the stall speed? I'm thinking low 40 knots or so.
Looking forward to the next video. Cookies! I hope you're bringing enough for all of us! :p
Glen,
What aircraft did you fly when you were a full time pilot? tell us your journey to being a full time pro pilot! 😀
👌
Noticed the tower didn’t request your atis confirmation or maybe it was edited out? Beautiful day, beautiful plane. Love the views of the lake.
It was edited out - but I've found Oshawa Tower even when you confirm ATIS, they still give you winds and Baro again.
Excellent video. I’ve recently started playing X-Plane 11 in virtual reality, and my favorite planes to fly are the small ones. I’ll have to add Oshawa to the airports that I fly from.
Just curious: you said that runway 30 was a right hand pattern, but you came in on a left hand pattern. Is that part of the nonstandard directions from the tower that you mentioned?
I’m looking forward to all of your adventures on this channel. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Yes - RWY 30 is a right hand pattern to keep the aircraft from flying over a neighbourhood, but the airport was so busy they were bringing planes in on both right hand and left hand patterns.
G,day Glen from Sydney Australia.
You didn't mention the numbers of stall speed with the wing extensions. My guess is 45KIAS
Interesting about the radio interference, it seems to transmit and receive.
🌏🇦🇺
I'll be going over the numbers at some point - but depending on the flap setting I'm seeing stall speeds at 38 MPH / 33 KIAS
Got a question is it bad manners to ask how much the wing work cost. Also I have skipped ahead and see although you thought you were about through with the changes and work I see you were wrong. Many more changes coming up. Thanks for the post. Setting here on my farm in Texas wishing I was ridding along. But alas I am happy to follow along in my easy chair.
Great to see the plan flying. That was a lot of work ($$$$$$) to get to this point. One question. What is your hanger door width? Mine is 40 Ft which seems pretty standard.
40' wide - doesn't give me much wiggle room to get this into the hangar.
