    Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-)

    I think patterns could also be the A,B,C,… slots within a single style?

    Good, informative video. I learned some things! Cool that you recorded the depth of the LFO.
    I prefer using the SECTIONS as patterns, as opposed to the STYLES. It doesn't create that little hick-up in PATT CHAIN mode.

      Hi Sonny, you seem to be very knowledgeable about the RS! I have one on the way to use it for a live set. I heard about this infamous "bug" when switching patterns, which would defeat its purpose entirely. Would you recommend writing in "section" mode over "style"? Thanks a lot 🙂

    • @sonfx
      @sonfx Před 2 lety

      @@reductiverecords5295 hey, just did a gig with it and I didn’t feel comfortable writing in either or! It depends on the kind of music you’re doing and there are some workarounds. I put the stereo out through a Midiverb and got around the little hiccup like that. It worked for my kind of music.
      If you’re on Facebook you should check out the RS group. This topic comes up every now and again and there you’ll find people far more qualified to answer this question :)
      Hiccup or not, use the RS and see what you can do with it. It can be a wondrous machine

      how do you get around when copying one section to another, any changes made to that section effect the other one?

  • @MIDERA
    @MIDERA Před 2 lety

    It's fascinating to see how we use completely different methods to write music on our RS7000s (I don't save individual patterns, I save 'ALL' and use sections to create new sections to go to for pattern chaining, although it's not really 'chaining' per se). Also - I love your screen. It's a shame that I had an abysmal interaction buying an SY77 screen from him. Otherwise I'd buy it in a second.

      @@1heUndertaker hi mate, no tutorials sorry. I'm happy to answer any questions though. Basically I'm using the 2 midi outs to 2 kenton thru 5 boxes, one for synths, one for drums. I sequence all the midi on the rs and assign the midi channels to match the sound source. Sometimes it's in pattern mode and I'll jam the track with the midi mutes, sometimes song mode if it's more complicated to do some tweaks. Sometimes it's just clock out too, for the xox box for example. All the sound is put through a mixing desk with 4 send/returns, direct outs and inserts. Lots of compressors and effect rack and pedals, stereo comp on master inserts and a stereo recorder.

      @MIDERA Před 2 lety

      @@mr_floydst I'm going to give this a shot I think. Gives me a reason to pull it out again :) Also, it does seem much easier than using new sections (if you're aware, the tracks that you record, if you change them in section B, they change for section A as well, unless you do voodoo, which I always forget about). The reason I never used your method was that I wasn't sure how to get to the next pattern at the end of a pattern (it always changed immediately).
