    Counting beats came easily to me from the start, didn't even realize what i was doing until later on. But few songs with a irregular starts on the intro gives me a hard time to catch a good cue point for a proper mix. I usually find and remember a safe spot before the verse to start from but won't get the mix i would like. Your video open my eyes to a lot.....
    I want to start learning music & try new methods in djing so i'm going to try start counting bars....
    Thanks for all your hard work with these videos. Keep it up!

    That was a fantastic video! I'm a retired DJ and often times I help new DJ's get started. Whenever I start with someone, I always start with this. Before you put your hands on a controller or open DJ software (it's irrelevant) you gotta know this. Most people don't realize they already know this subconsciously and practice it when they''re dancing singing. Once. you understand it it will open up an entire new world of music for you. You will go to a club or concert and appreciate what the artists are doing on an entire new level. Bravo for this simple tutorial!

    Okay, so you know that super simple beat pattern used in Mary J. Blige's song "All Night Long" (the one using the Mary Jane Girls sample)? Well, I tried to make a similar beat pattern like that and I couldn't believe how hard it was for me... I couldn't get the timing right or find the rhythm to save my LIFE. I tried to makeup for it by adjusting the tempo enough to make it SOUND like I was on point, but every time I did that I couldn't get a clean loop. I knew this was all due to my lack of understanding in time signature/counting beats, but I was determined to find a way without learning all that mess (ikr... LOL, at my stupidity). I actually gave up trying until I find your video... THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!! I went back and tried it again for the first time in MONTHS, and I made my pattern PERFECTLY within a matter of minutes:-). #YouHaveSavedMyLife!!!

    stop counting and start FEEL the music I say...becuz u would just know where it goes well if you guys stop thinking the music and start feel it! That's what I do its like beats goes through my heart and that can never fail..thanks for the video tho

    • @djTLMtv
      @djTLMtv  Před 9 lety +9

      That might work for you, but for most people it is essential that they understand the basics like time signature and that they know how to count music. Knowing how to recognize and count beats, bars and phrases will help them to see/hear how music is structured. Once they have that knowledge on lock, they can stop thinking and start feeling.
      But most importantly, this video was made for (beginning) DJ's. These DJ's will be mixing music with a certain time signature (mostly 4/4) and it is essential to be able to recognize the structure of those songs.
      When I'm mixing I don't count. Once you have the knowledge you recognize the beats, bars and phrases without counting.

    • @maiasingersongwriter
      @maiasingersongwriter Před 9 lety +2

      yeah i respect that! Good there is a way for everyone, just never ever thought about music as counting it just goes of it self without thinking for me but yeah, it's intressting to know these things, but it was like a :O moment becus all of the sudden music became a math lesson :D ..joke, ok but thanks I appreciate the answer

      MAIA MUSIC Singer Songwriter Just because you can feel music, doesn't mean that you should'nt understand "whats under the hood". I'm impressed to see someone teaching "music" as a basis at all (Beats / bars). Too many people try to run before they know how to walk. Learning how to break music down in to its component parts can help a lot.

    • @maiasingersongwriter
      @maiasingersongwriter Před 9 lety +2

      what ever works for you, im glad for you if you have found a way that works for you to make music :) all good, but i dont need to see under the hood to know what i wanna do but it's just me, because when ever i start to count and over think my music it just gets 'bad' becuz then i focus too much on the details,,, i think music dont need to be abour perfection and that's just my opinion, when i feel its good its good :) BUT i respect your ways of creating I just see it differently

    • @CYRAPHYM
      @CYRAPHYM Před 6 lety +1

      I've never learned how to read music but, I've always had an ear for it. If you have no rhythm it's always going to be a difficult. Music paints a picture or even a story. Counting is so important. I learned at the age of 7 how to count learning ballroom dancing which embedded the rhythm in me.

    Hey +djTLMtv thanks for this tutorial! It was very helpful, especially for someone like me who is just learning the basics of music production with Maschine without having any previous musical background. So many times these tutorials assume that the viewer is an Audio Engineer or a practiced musician and they don't explain things down to a granular level for beginners. Truly helpful and I'll make sure I subscribe to check out your other videos. Thanks again!

    After failing to find a certain rare EBM tracks beat signature I've watched most videos on teaching counting beats left me learning little until, your video showed me the basics right away and clearly explaining only what I needed to look for. People looking to start on Music Production should defiantly watch this. Subbing and looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you.
