Toilet paper rolls work wonderfully to make circles or to slide them gently through the paint to make incredible patterns! Or use them to stamp...also dollar stores have so many weird and wonderful patterns on some of the bases of many things.

Real time videos are my favorite, 100%. I also appreciate videos without music, which is often irritating (ex: drum beats) I have to mute those. :) But, Vikki, your content is always perfect and so inspirational. I do botanicals most often, but have not done the partial lift technique, which I will try today. Thanks ever so much, always so happy when I see one of your videos come in! 🥰

A tip....your brayer is meant to be rested on the back metal bar, so there are no paint or paper marks left on it for the next roll. Beautiful prints. I love how you don't blend it too much...it makes the colours so clean and contrasting and interesting! ❤

Yet another wonderful tutorial. I'm so impressed with your talent. I put my gelli plate and paints away because I wasn't getting pretty prints but now I think that YOU have giving me a 'handle' on making some prints that I like.

Hi Vikki. Thanks for another great video. I do like the real time format, but enjoy them all. It is a much slower process for me, as I live in a humid climate and have to wait for the layers to dry. Botanical are always a favorite for me. 😊

One of the things I especially like that you do that I don't much see elsewhere (maybe I have, but I don't remember it) is create first layers that aren't supersmooth or uniform. Those variations in color are splendid, and I enjoy seeing which colors create them. I did not skip ahead today!

Beautiful! I tried copying some botanical batik fabric on my channel and I still need to get some golden paint to perfect it. I was just using what I had on hand. I couldn’t get the translucency I needed and I used way too much paint. Yours are so beautiful and fun - I always love the lipstick holder but am loving the print from the little cup! This is such a fun process - I think the first one is my favorite also!

I am happy with the real time video as find them easy to fast forward if I like. Though sometimes the things I find interesting the commentator might not. So in that case I prefer the normal speed video.

Ane, wonderful! Thanks so much for subscribing! I hope you LOVE gel plate printing as much as I do...there is a bit of a learning curve, and your climate can have a big impact, but the magic of pulling a fantastic print is irresistible!
Being an impatient sort, I watch almost all my craft and Photoshop videos at 1.5X. (I think there's one presenter who speaks so quickly that I need to slow it down from that, but most of the time it works well.) I have no issues with longer videos because they include more realtime demonstration-even at 1.5X I will skip ahead (the advantage of watching on a laptop instead of the phone). Some presenters provide a lot of tips in the narrative that I wouldn't hear elsewhere (e.g., Tim Holtz, who I never watch live because 2.5 hours is just too long in real time), so even when what I'm seeing is familiar, I stick around for those. Occasionally I do go back and sometimes I do slow things down. Others may watch differently, but I spend half of each day online (perhaps 1-2 hours on CZcams), and this is the most efficient way for me to get the content I value.

These are great! Thanks! I guess if I'd use some plants and leaves that are dry (I had saved some), they'd stick to the jelly plate and be hard to pick up, and little pieces and bits would stick.?
Maureen, that is correct, the dried leaves and flowers will crush on the gelli plate, it is best to use pliable fresh leaves as soon as you collect them, thanks for your question!
PS regarding film speed, there is a “gear” shaped icon on the top right of the screen that people can use to speed up or slow down 😊

I so prefer real time, otherwise I slow it down and have to turn the volume off. I love your style, and these prints came out beautifully. Do you prefer the liquid paint to the tube paint, is it easier to use on the gel plate? Thank you showing your process.
Thank you Margaret! The majority of the comments favor real time, so there will be more videos in that style! I MUCH prefer the fluid acrylics (Golden...I've tried the Liquitex fluids and they are not the same), UNLESS you are doing photo transfers and "color lifts", in which case the Amsterdam full body pigments are the key! Hi, thank you for your question! Framing the rice paper or adhering it to panel is a bit of a challenge, I primarily use the rice paper for collage work in mixed media pieces. how do u clean the leaves ect for the next roung like if u have red on them and u dont want red
Thanks for your question! It's pretty impossible to clean the leaves, but if the paint is dry, it is not likely that paint will move from the leaves to your next print, at least I haven't had any issues with that...I hope that helps!

Allie, that is a smashing idea! I show a "gelli print ball" made at the end of the "Layered Gelli Prints with Stencils" video czcams.com/video/ZvrouyTnm_I/video.html and there are many other options. For the most part, I use the gelli prints torn up in mixed media collage pieces. I also use them to make greeting cards, and as mentioned, they can be art pieces on their own, mounted to panel. Your idea of making paper beads sounds wonderful!

Can you get similar results with standard cheapo acrylics?
Hi Dulcie, thanks for your question! I don’t get good results with cheaper pigments, no…but I’ve seen other artists who do, so I know it is possible. I use fluid acrylics for 80% of my Gelli printing, and I find that the cheaper pigments have a higher “filler to pigment” ratio which leads to less satisfying results. You can always experiment and see what happens!

Hi Vikki can you transfer the prints to a canvas?
HI Kari, thanks for your question, if your question is, can you apply the gelli prints on rice paper to canvas with matte medium, absolutely! If you mean can you transfer the image, then no. I routinely use the gelli prints for collage in my mixed media pieces, I usually don't apply the entire print to canvas, preferring panel instead because it has no "give" and the birchwood panel gives a firm surface to adhere the print without tearing it (the rice paper is delicate, if you want to work this method, the HP Premium 32 is a better paper choice). Thanks for your question! In this video I am using JapanBargain Calligraphy Rice Paper from Amazon, check the supply list below the video for the link! The other types of paper I use are HP Premium 32 (this is for prints intended to mount on panel, or for greeting cards, and sometimes I use book pages.
What do people do with their prints after? Do you frame them?
Lyndsey, thanks for your question! I get asked that a LOT! There are many things you can do including mount them to panel, use them as collage pieces in mixed media work, make greeting cards from them, and use them as journal pages. What is that glass stamp?
Hi Jane, thanks for your question, the glass is a little brandy glass I found (in a set of six) at Goodwill. The bottom of glass pieces (provided they are level) create AWESOME patterns on the gelli plate!

Rita, thank you, another viewer advised me as well, which is why I added a warning to the video. I have never had any issues but I've advised everyone to wear gloves if they decide on using oleander!
You did say you’re using oleander leaves, didn’t you? You might want to warn viewers that oleander is extremely toxic. Be careful not to handle it with bare hands if your skin is raw or you have an open wound.

@@VikkiReed I’d only be concerned if you have cuts or abrasions. But I would wash my hands after handling them. I just looked it up to see what the plant looked like. I didn’t know about the toxicity.
