  • Refrigerator Too Warm? - Top 8 reasons and EASY DIY instructions to get your Refrigerator back to working order. For the full article, please visit: www.appliancepartspros.com/b/...
Reason #1: Defrost timer: This part controls the defrost cycle of the refrigerator, switching the fridge between defrost and cooling cycles. If the fridge feels warm, the defrost timer may caused the evaporator to freeze up, allowing the fridge to become warm.
Reason #2: Defrost Thermostat: The defrost thermostat is a safety device that cuts off the defrost cycle if the freezer gets too warm. This protects the freezer from overheating and spoiling food. If the thermostat has failed, the fridge may become too warm to keep food cool.
Reason #3: Defrost Heater: The heater heats the fridge to melt the ice off the evaporator during the defrost cycle. If the refrigerator is too warm, the defrost heater may have failed and need to be tested or replaced.
Reason #4: Defrost Temperature Sensor: This sensor tells the control board the temperature inside the fridge and shuts off the heater if it gets too warm. If the sensor isn’t working, it could prevent the refrigerator from defrosting.
Reason #5: Cold Control: The part you set the refrigerator temperature with is the cold control. If the temperature is too warm, the cold control could be going bad and need to be repaired or replaced.
Reason #6: Temperature Sensor: Tells the control board the temperature inside the refrigerator so it can run defrost and cooling cycles as needed. If the fridge is too warm, it could be that the sensor is misreading temperature within the fridge. Test according to the steps within the video, and replace the part if necessary.
Reason #7: Evaporator fan motor: It turns the fan blade to circulate cold air around the fridge unit. If the fridge is too warm, the evaporator fan motor may be failing to cool the fridge and need to be fixed or replaced.
Reason #8: Air Damper: The air damper controls how much cold air is circulating within the refrigerator from the freezer. If the fridge is too warm, it could need to be replaced or fixed.
The 'Top 8 Reasons Your Refrigerator is Too Warm' video covers all major brands of Refrigerator, including: GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, Kenmore/Sears, Samsung, KitchenAid, and others.

Thanks for the video. I got a used fridge where the freeze was fine but the fridge was warm. I went through your video and everything checked out till I got to fan in the freezer. Someone the bolts that held the motor together got broken. I thought maybe it got put down hard when someone moved it. The fan could turn on occasion but not always. I took it apart and got the broken bolts out. Luckily they stuck out enough to grab with vicegrips. I found replacement metal screws at home depot. All back together and now the fan turns great.

Hello, you guys always do great informative videos. My evaporator coils are very clean no frost at all. Is that a bad thing? Since the temp in the fridge would get too warm I thought they'd be clogged, but just the opposite. The evaporator fan works. The evaporator's heater coil did not get hot after the compressor stopped, but could that mean the sensor is timed and it just wasn't time? The compressor fan works. The compressor works and will run continuously until the fridge is very cold. But the compressor and lines seem to get very hot (maybe too hot?) as the copper tubes are hot as hell and there's only one that is somewhat cool, or just not too hot. I thought one tube was supposed to be pretty cold to touch. After the fridge gets very cold down to 30, it will not click on again to remain cold until it gets past 60F. I want to eliminate problems step by step without fixing something (replacing parts) that are maybe just fine.
P.S. where to get a copy of the "tech sheet" you refer to often in the video?

My old, maybe 15 year old side by side, just got a new timer, heater and thermostat replacement and is working like new again. I said replace all three as who knew when one of the three would next go bad. It was a failed heater lamp that iced up the freezer and resulted in a hotter than it should be refrigerator section. Yes the repair was expensive, but cheaper than a new side by side.

Try this to get the freezer working again. I have an LG Top-Bottom Fridge that was having the same trouble. Compressor and exterior fan were working fine but the freezer was not cooling. I removed the front interior trim of the freezer and saw that the evaporator fan was not working. I carefully unscrewed it from the housing frame behind the trim and checked the resistance and continuity on the wire connector which were excellent. Now I've seen repairmen who would just tell you to replace the fan but at that time of day that was not an option. Having done this before with a standing fan, I realised that all this fan wanted was a cleaning and lubricating of the magnets and impeller respectively. Eventually over time with these two there is a build up of dirt, and rust in some cases, which must be cleaned and so here is where WD 40 is your best friend. I used some of this on a paper napkin to wipe the two surfaces after which I used some treadmill silicone oil, you can use something similar, on the curved surface of the impeller as well as the shaft and end joint housing. I reinstalled the evap fan and plugged it in. Not only did it spin, but it spun faster than before. Also, make sure you clean the plastic fan blade which should just pop off the impeller shaft. I placed mine under the faucet and used some dishwashing soap. Hope this tip helps someone to save some time and money. 😀

I found the defrost cycle thermostat has failed. I would also like to check the defrost timer. but I can't find it on my Kenmore Elite, Model 596.76253701. Not in the control module, not behind the kick-plate and not with the compressor down back? Anyone know if some models have an all-electronic timer? Or where it might be? Great video otherwise -- short and to the point -- and clear as a bell. I'll get my parts here for sure.

Great descriptions and sequence of trouble shooting. On our kitchenaid KRFF305E Evap coils were frozen from half way up to the top(topr 3" in solid ice, bottom 3" clear) , freezer temp sensor housing was full of ice, and the lines going to the WVAP coils were frozen in a large block of ice. Fan is working. I defrosted the evap coils, fridge freezer was working- looking OK, but within a day noticed frost building on the temp sensor housing. Can't seem to find the Defrost timer(nor can i find a part number in the parts manula) ( is it all controlled by a circuit board? or is the defrost timer buried in the digital control panel at the top of the fridge Rob

Ok, let me tell you what my fridge is doing and you tell me what’s wrong and how to fix it! I have a Samsung French door style fridge with dual ice makers. I bought it third hand at least. And was told about it’s issues prior to purchase. When I got it home, I plugged it in and it worked perfectly for a couple weeks, making ice with both ice makers, so I stocked it full! And within a couple days everything thawed out and it quit making ice. Ever since I cleaned it up after throwing out the thawed food, it has maintained a temperature about 42° no colder no warmer and no ice! My fridge repair guy says it’s a problematic design and all French door fridges have issues and he would never recommend them. He also said they are not serviceable because you can’t access the components. Is this true? I have no problems with replacing components but I have no clue as to knowing which components need fixing
