  • Hanuman Akhara is one of the most prestigious wrestling schools in India. In this video, the wrestlers are warming up before afternoon practice. Guru Maha Singh Rao runs the akhara and instills discipline into his students. Wrestlers must be obedient and loyal to their gurus and do exactly as he tells them. Hanuman akhara has produced countless champions throughout the years and Guru Maha Singh Rao is a winner of the revered Anjuna Award.

      Weight training has its own advantages. Indian wrestlers started winning since we also started weight training alongwith conventitonal freebody exercises. Yes, our Olymmpic medals in bulk are yet to come but conventionally Indians practiced wrestling in sand rather than on a mat. Thus, they had troubles on getting grip when put on mat but the situation is changing rapidly since mats are reaching to even small towns now.
      The same story occured earlier in Kung Fu. Western fighters with resistance training were beating Asians but Asians bounced back once gyms started supplementing training schools.

    Amazing. You know, there´s so many Indian action movies. I saw recently one in which the hero copies Tony Jaa´s style. He´s really good, but I keep asking myself: India has its own rich martial arts culture. Why do they need to copy Muay Thai from Thailand or Kung Fu from China? Why not make a movie with authentic Indian martial arts?

    • @yodhanewar9103
      @yodhanewar9103 Před 10 lety +9

      If u r talking abt the indian filim ''comando the one man army'' then its not muaythai....its indian martial art kalari...the hero's name is vidyut jamwal & he 's a kalari practioner...

    • @harpiyon
      @harpiyon Před 10 lety +1

      Prabhakar Sabarinath Thank you, yeah that was exactly the movie I watched! The hero is a big muscular guy fighting like Tony Jaa, he's trying really hard, but you just don't buy a big guy doing those moves. Maybe there was some Kalari involved, but I think he mainly used Muay Thai.
      Why don't they show real, authentic Kalaripayattu? There's nothing to be ashamed of, it's a fine art.

      harpyion ,,,yes,,,that hero's(big muscular) name is Vidyut jamwal & he's indian bollywood action star,,,(also a kalari practioner),,,,& abt ur question abt martialarts in indian movies,,,,its bcoz actually indian subcontinent is such diverse with diffrent people(genetically) and same in the case of martial arts,,,,,here in india we have indian wrestling in north india,,sikh khalsa of punjab (north west),,Thangtha of northeast india ,,vajramushti (a wrestling grappling systm using sharp knuckle dusters) of central india ,,& silambam & kuttu varaisi of tamil nadu(southern india) and kalaripayatu of kerala(southern india),,,,,thats y the filims in indian subcontinent uses diffrnt martial arts in it,,,,

    India is a blessed country has 1.4 billion people of all races, all religions, etc. Thus if we use our manpower properly we shall be second to none in most disciplines. Take sports most of the money is being spent on technically a non-sport that is cricket; in reality this has little competition and is also truly entertainment. If we win a few medals in the Olympics in genuine sports we just often get excited. Time to push genuine sports (more so in which we have already started to emerge good) such as shooting, badminton, wrestling, boxing, archery, tennis, etc. so that we can emerge as a genuine sports power. India has an ancient and solid tradition in wrestling let us make this our national sport. Let our media also play a constructive role and encourage our youth in creative things. The media often tells us which actor went for a swim or what they had for lunch! Also in sports the media more often only talks of cricket. We have few exceptions such as The Hindu a newspaper which has a class and genuinely stimulates the mind of all Indians in different age-groups. Let the media also genuinely educate the youth.

      Raj Modi Yes, absolutely. Modern day Chinese Kungfu was invented by Bodhidharma, who was a prince from Kerala, who adopted Buddhism and moved to China and established the Shaolin Temple there. Bodhidharma ji was an expert at Kalaripayattu, so yes Kalaripayattu is the mother of modern Kungfu.
