Over the years I feel less and less terrible for being a 0.9 gpa student. I could never understand why I went to school for 6 hours a day and then went home and did homework for another 6-8 hours. The style of learning just didn't compute and I didn't feel like I was learning anything important. This showed me why.

It seems also very contradictory to study classic frameworks and then claim we do not want to become like those classics as the aim of study is not only learning but also transforming.

I was a little disappointed in this lecture and its views on evolution, but I'd be happy to listen to the full reasoning and suspend judgement for now given that there is a whole series of lectures. The argument given against evolution in the lecture appears to be an offhand statement by an evolutionist in the 20th century, rather than taking the evidence, understanding and conclusions of evolution into account. I can understand if the speaker presupposes the truth of the bible as their core premises and that divine premises must take precedent over contradictions found in nature, but if this isn't the case, I don't understand how the speaker does not come to the conclusion that evolution is well evidenced.
It should be added actually that I believe in the Trivium and I believe that it absolutely leads to truth and deeper philosophical understanding, I just think that dogmatic thinking is interfering with the operating principles of grammar, logic and rhetoric. The evidence of this is towards the end of the lecture where evolution is poked fun at, and jokes are argued against as straw men. Perhaps the speaker ought to argue directly with Darwin through a detailed reading of the Origin of Species in addition to later scientific works on DNA and modern genetics. I'm sure then if they argue in good faith that they might be mistaken, or at the very least see that the science is in fact logical when the premises are derived from nature. I'd completely understand if the speaker dismissed the arguments due their faith and their acceptance of the divine knowledge they've received, but not while they fail to investigate the claims with the same lack of rigour as the modern school system.

If you’re going to speak on same-sex orientation or the right to life, shouldn’t you have had a same-sex experience that has lasted longer than a quick judgement as to it being wrong or realize that you can’t say something is living if it’s totally dependent upon the body functions of it’s host? If I argue against heterosexuality because I’m homosexual, aren’t I just as wrong as my arguments against against homosexuality because I’m heterosexual.
