Really good. I am 6’ tall and in my 2013 TC, I just move the seat back forward, put a pillow behind it, all set. Don't have to slide the seat forward, at my height. I love the 2013. Everything is just right. Here in Arizona, you can drive all over BLM and State land on dry dirt roads. What a camper!
That is awesome! We hope to make our way to that part of the country in the coming year! That is too funny about the pillow, we tried doing that on our first two trips and it almost worked for us but was just a tad too small for Mike still, great minds think alike haha Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it! Best of luck in your travels!
I really enjoyed your video and the ideas are great. One thing I learnt from an antique furniture restorer is that if you rub some candle wax on the moving parts of the bed they will slide in and out easier. It's a trick you can use on antique furniture with sticking drawers etc. Maybe this helps.
Priceless measurements & size/height perspective, thanks. My husband is 6'6" & skeptical of any/all camper vans smaller than a Winnebago or tour bus. 😅
We totally can't blame him! Those are awesome vehicles and tiny vans aren't for everyone. You could have him try and parallel park a Winnebago, maybe then he will change his mind haha In all seriousness, you can't go wrong with whatever van/vehicle you choose, as long as it works for you! Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it!
@Bob Gatewood Idk if it notified you, but I accidentally clicked thumbs down on your comment. I didn't mean to, was supposed to just scroll. Sorry about that.
Thanks for sharing!!! I’m in the process of looking to purchase a 2010-2013 transit connect. Especially now that u mention it has taller cargo area than after 2013👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks! We figured we would share some of the workarounds we have had to come up with when there is a taller person involved! Thanks for watching we really appreciate it!
Thank you! And thank you for watching, we really appreciate it! We actually just filmed a van tour, if you are interested in watching you can click the link below :) czcams.com/video/LRrqbaR5a0g/video.html
This is the first of your videos I have come across, and I have to say your bed extension is a great idea. Being only 5'7 and a bit it's never been a problem I have had though 👍😆
Awesome! Thank you so much for subscribing, we really appreciate it and you watching! Best of luck in your van search/build! You will have to keep us updated, we love hearing about other people's van build/travels
Nice conversion and video but I had a wee laugh to myself at the bit about having access to the front incase of an emergency , like is that where you keep your toilet paper? 🤣🤣
I have one of these vans as well and love it. we use it with 2 people (camping only, not living in it). I see how you can sleep, but driving must be tough for the 6'5 person because the front cabin is very small for long legs.
That is awesome! Mike actually prefers driving over being the passenger for that reason. He has more leg room on the driver's side than when he is the passenger, especially because the passenger seat can't lean back all the way because of the bench. Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!
Guys, your video was super helpful - had the Transit Connect on my shortlist for quite a while, though its availability is rather low in Germany, compared to similar models. But since I'm 6.4, I was a little hesitant - till now! My layout looks kind of similar - just need my van now 🤘 all the best from Germany, safe travels :)
Wow, Germany? That is awesome! Glad you found the video helpful! Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it! Best of luck in your van search and build!
Haha..i laughed at the vampire comment as i sleep like this..im also right around 6'5" and planning and working on my own bed design so this was helpful TY!
G,day I'm 6'6" so thanks for the heads up( pun intended ) here in Australia I'm looking at a VW. Van Diesel 6 speed manual for economy. Will be towing a trailer with bicycle and Kayak with extra fuel and water. Thanks for your van tour and idea's All the best. Bluey
Haha love the joke! VW vans are definitely the OG vans of van life! They are awesome vans and the trailer sounds like a great idea, it will allow you to have a lot more storage space for sure. Wow, Australia? That is awesome! Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it! Best of luck in your van search and travels!
That was pretty much how we rolled on our first time out in the van! We knew we would want the extra features (when we had time to actually build them), but if you just need a place to sleep it totally works!
Thank you so much! We spent a lot of time on CZcams seeing what others had done, and figuring out what worked for us. Best of luck with finding a van! Thanks for watching!
Instead of the cupboards where they are from the ground, would they not hang from the roof down which would potentially mean a bigger sleeping space underneath?
Absolutely! We have seen some other Transit Connect van builds who have done it that way. We have also seen some builds that just made the entire back of the van a bed and had storage underneath it with nothing hanging from the ceiling. We actually considered that type of build but then found ourselves gravitating to the layout we chose. We liked the idea of having a work space, couch, bed, etc. It's really all about preference :) Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!
I have been watching so many videos and wondered about taller people. For me I am 5’4” but my husband is 6’2”. He won’t be using the van as much as I am. But I want him to be comfortable
Haha yeah probably! We actually slept like that, with our heads by the doors on our first roadtrip and just found that we preferred to have our heads by the front seats more. For us it feels less claustrophobic/feels like you have more space by your face without being right up against the cabinet and wall. It ended up being more of a comfort thing than any real layout reason! But yes, that is totally doable if someone wanted to haha Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!
Hallo, thanks for the info. But what are inch and feet or how much they are. Why do you not use m an cm like the hole world? For me your lot of inches and feet are absolutely misunderstanding, sorry. Or is it a video only for your country?
Thank you for the suggestion! Honestly we just didn't think to add the metric system measurements because we do not use them. (We have no idea why the USA doesn't use it haha) But we really appreciate you letting us know that there is a need to do that! We will make sure we do better with that going forward. In the meantime, we have added the measurements in the description of the video as well as in the video captions. (unfortunately we are unable to edit a video once it is uploaded so we cannot put them over the screen) Hope this helps! Thank you again for the suggestion and for watching!
Nicely done. Like the L shape and extension. We have a Ram Promaster City mini camper and the front seats are adjusted by a PIA dial on the side of the seats. It’s ridiculous. Do you have a lithium setup? Subbed.
Ram Promasters are awesome vans! We looked into them as well, sadly they were out of our budget haha Yes, we do have lithium batteries :) Thank you for the kind words and for watching, we really appreciate it and you!
Sorry if this has been asked, did you compare the TC to a Honda Element? PS - Your build is awesome, so liveable, I’m proud to show your videos to my peers as something I want to build too.
No need to be sorry! No, we did not compare it to the Honda Element. They seem like really great vehicles though! Thank you for the kind words about our build, we really appreciate it and you watching- best of luck in your van build!
Hi there, thank you so much for the video! I don't think you mentioned the overall height of the cargo space. Could you please let me know? I want to purchase a european 2010 Transit Connect and want to make sure that it's the same height as yours. Thanks a mil and best regards from Austria :D
Hi! The distance from the floor to our ceiling is about 51 inches, but that doesn't include the floor board we installed or the few inches of lost space between our ceiling and the wood boards we hung up so the empty cargo space before the build would be slightly bigger. Hope that helps! Please let us know if you need more information, best of luck in your van search and build! Thank you for watching :)
Hi- we really haven't noticed any issues! The seats can be adjusted pretty easily so both of us are able to have a comfortable driving experience. Hopefully you will get to test drive one so you can see if they will work for you too! Best of luck in your van search!
Hi! Not sure if you have us mixed up with someone else but we do not have a turtle (even though that would be a pretty cool van pet haha) Sorry! Best of luck finding the correct channel 😃
Hi- we have taken the van down some bumpy back roads and haven't had any issues! But we haven't gone down anything too extreme so we will have to watch for that if/when we do. So far though the ground clearance hasn't been an issue, even in the snow we get here in the Western New York area. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!
Hi- yes! There are door stoppers on the back lower sides of our van. This allows us to open the back doors 180 degrees and connect the doors to the side stoppers!
Hi, we do not have the dimensions listed anywhere but we do have the link of the cabinet we purchased from Lowes with the dimensions of the cabinet: www.lowes.com/pd/Project-Source-30-in-W-x-30-in-H-x-12-in-D-Natural-Unfinished-Door-Wall-Stock-Cabinet/1003204652 We then added drawer slides onto a 1inch by 1inch wood board and attached the cabinet top. We used the same wood for the slide out and top of the cabinet, we just cut it to size: www.lowes.com/pd/Common-3-4-in-x-16-in-x-4-ft-Actual-0-62-in-x-15-25-in-x-4-ft-Pine-Board/50053127 You can kinda see the process of how we put it together here: czcams.com/video/qFu8bW_nIdI/video.html Hope that helps! Haha that is a great question, and 100% doable! We actually slept like that, with our heads by the doors on our first roadtrip and just found that we preferred to have our heads by the front seats more lol. For us it feels less claustrophobic/feels like you have more space by your face without being right up against the cabinet and wall. It ended up being more of a comfort thing than any real layout reason. Thank you for subscribing, we really do appreciate it :)
@@mikeandheather hey Mike I totally get it it’s just my partner couldn’t sleep face to face with me with my snoring! She really loves you man! 😂 best of luck to both of you.
Haha It is a small space for sure but can be surprisingly roomy! The cabinet that we built everything off of from Lowe's is 30 inches wide by 30 inches tall and 12.75 inches deep. In between the wheel housings on the floor, the van is 6ft by 4ft but the van curves out and we are able to get a little bit of extra space past the wheel well on the floor and with the curve of the van. With the cabinet, we extended the side out a little bit to fit the curve of the van and around the wheel well so the cabinet is now a little bit wider that the original 12.75 inches. Hope this makes sense! You can see the curve of the van and size in relation to the cabinet a little better here: czcams.com/video/qFu8bW_nIdI/video.html Thank you for watching!
I beg you to add as you already give dimensions in imperial system dimensions in metric system, the rest of the world (without Liberia and Myanmar) will thank you.
Thank you for the suggestion, we have added the measurements to the description of the video and in the subtitles of the video. Unfortunately we are unable to edit/change a video once it is uploaded to CZcams to have the measurements pop up on the screen. We will do better with giving both sets of measurements going forward! Unfortunately we just didn't think to do so because we do not use them. Lesson learned haha Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!
Yes, pretty much lol We like to compare it to being like a tent on wheels. It doesn't have a lot of amenities but gives us a way to get places and a place to sleep for the night which is all we can ask for in a van this size!
I agree ! My son just sold me his 2006 Chevy van so I am collecting ideas including some of yours to make everything simple and functional Thanks for the video
Do you buy clothes too small for you as well? Why not just buy a slightly larger van? Don’t get it at all, this just screams we built this tiny thing we don’t fit in just to get CZcams views.🙄🙄🙄
I drive and sleep in small european hatchback because it gets 80 mpg avrenge (2.9l/100km) It's suitable for one person and less cost mean longer vacations ;)
I've been watching stealth camper videos for a long time and finally found a page with someone who's 6 ft 5 aswell. Got my subscription. About time

You can kinda see the process of how we put it together here: czcams.com/video/qFu8bW_nIdI/video.html
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
New subscriber. Why dont you two just turn around. Heads by back doors and feet by front seats 🤔😂.
Love makes you fit. ❤️❤️
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it :)
As a person who needs space when sleeping, being right next to each other like that is a nono.
Wow both of you must not be hot sleepers! Wifey & I would be boiling
New subscriber lets c what u got best south africa
Awesome! Hopefully we don't disappoint haha
Thank you for watching and subscribing, we really do appreciate it! And from South Africa?! Too cool!
The width is four feet, and the bed is three feet, so the “kitchen” is only a foot? It looks so much deeper. Wide angle lens illusion?
You can see the curve of the van and size in relation to the cabinet a little better here: czcams.com/video/qFu8bW_nIdI/video.html
Thank you for watching!
@@mikeandheather Yes, makes sense. I’m Connect shopping, so your reply really helps with planning. Thank you!
!
@@ChrisW228 Great! Best of luck in your van search :)
So it's a mobile, traveling bed? 🤔
Yes, pretty much lol We like to compare it to being like a tent on wheels. It doesn't have a lot of amenities but gives us a way to get places and a place to sleep for the night which is all we can ask for in a van this size!
Don't want my mattress remembering everything 😳
Too funny! Agreed.
Doesn't look like 2 people can sleep comfortably in there.
Doable bed, but it cannot be comfortable. My wife and I need a King size bed. I guess van life may not be for us 🤔
Micro van life may not be for you but there are plenty of larger vans that may be more to your liking! Don't give up on the dream just yet :)
I agree ! My son just sold me his 2006 Chevy van so I am collecting ideas including some of yours to make everything simple and functional Thanks for the video
@@williamdunlop8191 That is so exciting! Best of luck in your van build!
You don't, much like Chuck Noriss" The van" fits You
Haha too funny! Thank you for watching!
@@mikeandheather Nice build
Fine for two toothpicks but for some thick people, forget it 😒
Do you buy clothes too small for you as well? Why not just buy a slightly larger van? Don’t get it at all, this just screams we built this tiny thing we don’t fit in just to get CZcams views.🙄🙄🙄
I drive and sleep in small european hatchback because it gets 80 mpg avrenge (2.9l/100km) It's suitable for one person and less cost mean longer vacations ;)
