I just had some baby blue birds to leave around May 20 and now I have 4 or 5 eggs in my new bluebird house , I love these birds and love watching them build the nest, and it's very quick, then after they hatch it's awesome to watch mommy and daddy feed them and hear them when mommy and daddy are near

Every year Bluebirds have been nesting in my backyard and park behind my house since 1992 I have alot of house's, Tree Swallows nest also, the juvenile BB will turn adult at 89 days. Egg shells are great to use, I have Purple Martins and they eat them. Maybe one day you can do a video about Martians, im just ten minutes from downtown Nashville Tennessee and glad to see the bluebirds making a comeback, they have been seen at the Nashville airport, they are such a sweet bird to have around as always' thanks for your great information.

That's awesome you've been hosting birds that long! I love tree swallows too.
I want to do a few Purple Martin videos. I just have to get footage. Unfortunately, I don't host them myself. I was going to take over a park site, but they're overrun with house sparrows and are nervous about having anything done about that.
They are really fascinating though. One of the things I really think is neat about swallows is how they've kept close to humans and human constructions. Sadly purple martins are pretty much fully dependent on us to nest. Barn swallows and cliff swallows though are another group that have made use of human structures.
Swallows - they are sooo hard to get pictures and video of since they fly the way they do. Without a nest box for them, it's even harder.

Very good informative video. Our BB have the nest built & must be on their honeymoon. Oh, how they love those mealworms. Thanks for the insight on the female BB need for calcium.

It might be good they're honeymooning right now. With the sharp cold blast we've all been having, I'm hearing reports that many eggs were not viable. They can survive if a cold blast happens during incubation. But if the cold blast hits during that pre-incubation period, if momma isn't spending the night in the nest, those eggs may not make it unfortunately.
The upside is many others are hatching. Goodluck with yours. It sounds like they know what they're doing 😀

Great video! I have what I think are a young pair and was perplexed by how long they waited from nest building to laying! There are six eggs and I'm waiting for her to get broody! Thanks again for the great video I learned much from it!

Thank you so much. Thats awesome you have 6 eggs! How exciting!
It does take longer for new pairs sometimes.
The female I have this year is my girl from last year. But during her third brood there was a bad storm. She came home really rough. Didn't see male or days. Somehow, she got another male to help her with the kids. I assume that's her guy now and it took forever for her to get thr nest going. Every time she tried, he would take out everything she put in. Finally, enough was enough and she got wads of material and worked hard to get a good nest going. And he relented.
They are funny and these things make them so interesting to watch. And then you learn so much by observing.

Sorry to hear it. Bewick wrens are pretty neat though. Keep it up and maybe one will come. Are you using a wood box or plastic?
