    It's ironic that I created this animation about 8 years ago to pitch the concept to IKEA (I was never paid). Understand, I'm a freelancer and do not work for (or with) IKEA or any of their partners. I still can't believe this hasn't caught on yet. I still do animations (better now) for clients, but it will grow. A few years back, SAP bought the Software that I used for this example, now called Visual Enterprise Author. So the force is strong, but still lots to standardize for this technology to push forward. It will happen...

      Perhaps the only component missing is a pause between each step, the user would tap the screen on the viewing device after completing each step, watch the next one and continue work.

      +James Abrahams you can fix it to the wall, will help a little while, then the bed will loose up a bit. You need to tight it up once in a while with the allen key.

    Hello. I‘m planning to create an interactive product and I found this video. It’s been 10 years so I wonder how it’s not a product yet!
    I wonder if Ikea sues me if I create a website or app for this :)

    • @215Visual
      @215Visual  Před 3 lety +1

      Good luck there. I think everyone has tried this at one time. Instructables or CZcams, people cannot measure the value of quality information - until missing or not clear and mistakes are made.
      FYI, I don't do this anymore although I did enjoy it. Change is slow here and without an actual $ value, it's going nowhere sadly.

      I can't believe this video is still being used. The fact that IKEA chose not to change is a shame. At least for the high volume products... I think they'd sell more. ROI is good. Oh well.

    • @soulpedal
      @soulpedal Před 3 lety

      It's been years since I did this animation, sorry IDK. But that information would have been a good idea to add in the clip, and got me thinking.
      There's an inherent cost in maintaining this media, like to update this video for example. True, quicker than reshooting a video blah blah blah. Trouble is, corporations can't justify this cost with any money saved simply because it is extremely hard to measure the true point of failure, and oftentimes not until after the failure occurs... everywhere. Humans error is often the cause yet reported as an issue with the product. Nobody really knows if all the screws were in your box - and let's face it, how tight is "Hand Tight?"
      So the corporation decides it's the Engineer's problem to make it idiot proof. They may even need to spend $10K making an improved product, pissing off customers, and adding to overall waste.
      Meanwhile, CZcams took off (this animation is pretty old), so everyone consolidated to that platform and just threw together cheap and dirty demos. Wow, that method was so cheap, corps went the other way and downsized their training/media groups.
      Now we're in an era where you figure stuff out on your own, and when a bunch of people complain, someone publishes the solution for some more clicks. Very few leaders understand the advantages of clarity from the start. I know when I release my product, things will be quite clear. The need did not disappear. One business would have a distinct advantage over it's competition. I do think that spark is possible but only if corporation start thinking longer-term.
      Good luck with your beds everyone. I actually cringe at the graininess of this video everytime I see it. But we can't replace videos and I'm making a statement of fact with this one example by the unusually high numbers of people visiting. Anyway, check out SoulPedal® in Jan '22 at NAMM. New passion of mine.
