    The proportions are out of scale and I have 2 theories: 1 is to make it work the trailer to be compatible with deluxe sized cars so it ended being that size in robot mode. 2 is that SS86 is managing a different scale to justify new releases of characters we already have in the WFC and Legacy lines, like Optimus Prime, Megatron, Galvatron, Cyclonus, Springer, etc, that will scale better between the deluxe cars and the Dinobots

    The price is base off the fact that its a new mold and there arent that many repaints they can do with that mold to recoup the money like with the others or its what i think at least. Even with the few they can do and with it having that price it unlikely many will buy the repaints.

      @XsToyUniverse  Před 11 měsíci +2

      All Commander classes are new molds. All initial leader classes are new molds. This mold has several repaint options such as Shining Magnus, Black Magnus and Delta Magnus. The argument applies to every other Commander Class as well. Except here we lost two modes and got hollowness in exchange. It’s a great figure. But you can’t tell me it’s at the level of the last three trucks, all of which were independent cab Robos which then combined in one way or another with their non-hollow boxes

    I love the way this looks. I would love to pick it up. When I first heard about I got really exited because I saw commander class and expected a core robot so I completely understand the gripe about that. My biggest problem with the siege and earthrise molds were that they were to unproportional compared to the cartoon. I also really wanted that cartoon transformation with a working carrier. While combiner wars fixes that problem, is still isn’t to g1 accurate because it was going for IDW design. I am really exited for this figure and I hope to pick it up. I just with it could be a little cheaper. And like you said, the price didn’t come out of engineering because we already saw the same engineering in combiner wars and g1.

    I passed on the Siege and Earthrise version because of the robot inside gimmick. This one's perfect and looks great. I have no complaints. When you're doing a one for one with source material no mainline figure is 100% and you'd have to go Masterpiece engineering to come close and this guy is as Masterpiece as you can get in the mainline price point. I'm paying for parts count and makes sense. Rodimus was exactly the same thing. At least I'm displaying the whole package unlike Rodimus's trailer that's in the parts box and only wanted the core robot. so I get more bot for my money with this and I'm happier paying that price.

      Scale is necessary, for what Magnus is and the play factor surrounding him. A car carrier that goes with the bigger bots that can't carry Autobots bigger than the out of scale Core Class? No.
      It might work for Titans, which aren't in scale at all, but not core characters. Magnus was always an outlier for scale.

    I have the Masterpiece Ultra Magnus. This is that, shrunken down to Generations scale. The engineering absolutely comes into play for the pricing because the parts count to make it do what it does is going to be well above Leader Class.
    As far as scale, that is my biggest annoyance. He's too big. The reason for this probably has more to do with engineering than anything else, because as I said I have the Masterpiece. It's almost 1:1 a shrink down with somewhat better articulation (which makes sense given MP-22 came out 11 years ago). If you made him any smaller, the truck would probably be too small. MP-22 is probably a bit larger than he should be too but it works. I would be SHOCKED if the designer of MP-22 wasn't the designer here.
    The team we have now are getting further and further away from keeping the correct scale on figures. It began with Blaster. He's too big. Then Mark Maher said at least twice he wants to do a new Soundwave and "bring him up to Blaster scale", which would make them BOTH incorrect. I'm very much into the correct scale. I might not even be collecting Transformers at this point if they hadn't committed to it so well with Masterpiece in 2010 and then Generations in 2019.

    • @XsToyUniverse
      @XsToyUniverse  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Third party figures, particularly Legends have managed to keep Ultra Magnus’ proportions to less than this stack with less complex engineering, with or without a core robot. It’s entirely doable. I 100% agree with you on the scale starting to veer away though. While I’m not particularly worried about Ultra Magnus, I can definitely see it being an issue moving forward.

    • @Dontcareaboutoffending
      @Dontcareaboutoffending Před 11 měsíci +1

      Scale is not veering away, first and foremost Transformers is about play factor. It's not the engineering, it's that Magnus is what? A car carrier... Would it make sense that he can't carry Deluxe cars? No. Magnus, like with the MP was always going to be an outlier as far as scale for that very reason.
      Play factor. Don't be fooled that these are 100% aimed at only adults despite being G1 for us old farts. Scale is fine save for Magnus, and you know what, I couldn't care less, I like him being bigger, he is a semi and trailer after all.

    2. of course there is plenty there for a commander class price point. we collect transformers, if price was a consideration we would collect rocks instead.
    3. Those shoulders are way too wide.
    4. It gives me the impression that they just took MP UM and reduced the scale and found a way to put it in this price point. The aesthetic of the figure doesnt feel like the rest of the SS86 at all to me.

    And they goofed again. Yes, Magnus should be huge, but no, he's *NOT THAT HUGE*!! The pic with the SS86 mold Grimlock and Kingdom Rodimus Prime...ugh, Optimus & Rodimus are supposed to be pretty big boys and come up to his shoulder...something that's impossible here. And the torso is seemingly wider than even MP22's (which was already wrong to begin with).
    The detachable limbs...didn't they learn from SS86-2 Kup that this ain't a good idea for durability over time?? Wow. I dunno...this may be a cool figure, but there's gotta be something to justify the price point.

    First off, ALL TF are overpriced…
    While it’s just reality, I don’t think this really needs to be part of the conversation with this new U.M.
    He clearly has much more to offer than the previous leader versions.
    I don’t have either because I never liked the look of those, but based on appearance alone, those were big letdowns and very underwhelming. The Kingdom version’s alt mode was serious trash.
    I’ll also mention that Rodimus Prime’s trailer was a shell. Yeah the cannon was in there, but man, that was a large amount of plastic for very little return.
    I sold mine off and am so glad I did; that trailer would still be in the ties in the box (stored in another box).
    This new Magnus is slightly too big. The shoulders are a bit too wide, which is a common issue for many TF figures.
    No figure is ever going to look
    “one to one” (which is a weird way of saying 100% screen accurate).
    It’s literally impossible for a converting figure to pull this off.
    So knowing this, l
    I’d say people should just appreciate how close these newer/more recent figures are to their animation models.
    Otherwise, you’re whining about something that is outside of the realm of reality.
    Lastly, this new Ultra Magnus looks incredibly good…. I cannot wait yo have him in my collection.
    And by the way, I already have a plan for a diorama in which he will be “blown-up” into pieces.
    Looking forward to that as well.

    I have to say I am not really a fan of this figure for the following reasons.
    1. A bit too tall
    2. His shoulders are comically wide.
    3. It looks like something very heavy has fallen from a great height onto his head and forced it down into his chest.
    For me I kinda prefer the earthrise figure as I feel it is a better scale. And you get the white prime figure out of that as well.
    I will concede the alt mode is far superior to the Earthrise. But I display my collection in bot mode so I don't think this is for me. A shame because if he was in better scale I would have picked him up.
