I know exactly what this feels like my best friend was a firefighter, he just got off probation last year, in January this year he passed away suddenly at age 20. Hearing those bagpipes and watching his casket roll into the church was the most heartbreaking feeling i ever had. The kid who i hung out with days before was now suddenly gone. The kid i knew for 14 years of my life was gone
@@VeikkausMaister he had some kind of scar tissue on his heart and he just dropped and he was dead before he hit the floor. It’s almost been 2 years now but I’m still not over it
In my opinion, The Best Television Show to ever bless our eyes and ears. It was the perfect performance and showed what Life after 9/11 was about. It held back no punches.
Due to the climate both politically and in Hollywood this show couldn't be made today. It just couldn't. They couldn't do half the jokes, half the stories, it just couldn't be done. It literally was one of the best series on TV ever. My son's a fire fighter and they have this on DVD and play it at the fire house when they aren't on calls every now and then. It hasn't lost any of the craziness and the dark humor that is in EMS. I'm an ER/trauma RN coordinator and I see him periodically on calls and yes we do say some of the most crazy things but it is a stress relief of sorts.
I like to think that the show actually split into two timelines after the explosion at the factory. The first timeline is the one where Lou dies. The alternate timeline is where Lou survives, but Tommy and four other unnamed firefighters die instead.
You want to talk about an ending with BALLS? Continue forward that this is what happened, that Lou is the Lone Survivor. BIG. BRASS. BALLS. When Tommy woke up, I was like "They Chickened out!"
I noticed something! When they were showing Tommy's family in the pews, Uncle Teddy wasn't there. He was at Colleen's wedding. But not Tommy's funeral. I know, it was another one of his fever dreams. But still.
I don't think, I ever cried so much over a show. This scene alone was one of the worst moments of the series. It literally took me 3 days to recover from it.
Yeah. She would've been there, and the camera would've zoomed in on her face. Even though she wasn't on good terms with Franco when they broke up and she left the crew, she would've cried.
I think the metaphor incorporated here is this was Tommy's final fantasy so to speak like how intros to most episode's went it was telling us a final wake up Tommy still has to deal with his ultimate demon...being the survivor but what I think left me in suspense was wondering when he woke up was who died one of them two of them or all except Tommy? I half expected 10 years ago thinking it was both Lou and Franco (the most divisive at the time) who died when he woke up.
I always felt like they did this to show they had the budget to do it. I feel like if they just did Lou's funeral people woulda complained they couldnt get stuff to do somethimg like this. Still tears at my heart this whole thing. Watched it 'live', what a roller coaster
This episode was a perfect example of how this show could make you laugh and at the flick of a switch, could have you in tears.
I was literally in tears when I thought they all died and even a bigger mess when I found out it was just Lou.
John Scurti should have won an Emmy just for this scene alone.

Excuse me but why did he die? Just curious
And sorry for your loss

Having attended a firefighter funeral, this scene does beautiful justice to the pride and pain that come with burying heroes.
Just wrapped up the series for the first time since it went off the air in 2011. It was even better this time around.

I concur. Watched the first three seasons while in Iraq(deployed in 05-06) and related a lot to it. Best series ever produced.

I was kind of hoping for this ending then he woke up, you’re not alone, I thought if any show had the balls of steel it would have been Rescue Me.
No they didn’t
The music, so beautiful
It's fucked up that Lou didn't make it. I didn't get to see the whole episode but this was truly sad.
A lot of fucked up things happened on this show! Such as what happened to Connor and Damian! It hit me the hardest!
It's messed up but that's reality...God takes the best of us...early he doesn't take those of us who are a holes
Sometimes things just happen. They're firefighters, they know the risk. Every time, they run into a burning building.
I noticed something! When they were showing Tommy's family in the pews, Uncle Teddy wasn't there. He was at Colleen's wedding. But not Tommy's funeral. I know, it was another one of his fever dreams. But still.
This seen scared me shitless cuz I thought they all died but then Lou died so total mind fuck

Remember his ashes going all over them after white/black Sean opened up a car window?!? Lmao
I have been to far too many of these.
The main thing that bugs me is that even though it was Tommy’s dream Laura wasn’t at the funeral I figured she would especially cause of Franco
Yeah. She would've been there, and the camera would've zoomed in on her face. Even though she wasn't on good terms with Franco when they broke up and she left the crew, she would've cried.
I still can’t believe Johnny’s wife wasn’t at his funeral
The ending of this show was a whirlwind
if this was the original ending,i'd be still be with a big trauma lol, even though lou's one hurted me.
TheMacv92 I dunno what story line they would have had if they had killed off everyone but Lou
same,probably really tragic,oh above i meant "big trauma"lol,edited.

So Colleen lost a father (Tommy), uncle( White Sean), and husband (Black Sean) if this really happened.
Jimmy Sheridan It was a Dream but Lou actually was the one that died
And another uncle (Franco) as well as a good friend (Mikey). But yes, it was just Tommy's dream/nightmare
They were all uncles when you become a smoke eater you children gain aunts and uncles not from the company it’s self it the whole Dept
IIRC the producers thought about ending the show with this but decided not to.
62 is a truck company. The frontpiece insert should be red. Black is for engine companies.
Jim Lucerino it is red, just tarnished with soot and heat damage, happens to most helmets that see lots of action
Anyone know what the dream beat in the beginning is?
What a fucking great show Dennis Leary gotta do something new
he should play a Marine DI at Parris Island, Full Metal Jacket 2001, a DI training Marines for Iraq
He tried and it bombed.
@@deacongowan117 His cop show (The Job, IIRC) was excellent.
Who was the blackened body?
Does anyone know who that blackened body was at 0:32?
Think it was Lou maybe he seeing himself dead
What's the name of the song
