I'm going to guess that the extra 2 gigs of ram isn't actually ram. Some phones (samsung for example) will things "in memory" on the flash storage. Still faster than loading from scratch, but slower than actual ram.
it is exactly that, i have a poco f3 and most pocos have that option. Useless imo if you have anything more than 4gigs of ram on the phone but it can be turned off tho
because it's not supposed to be regurally used as RAM. it's just in case if the main runs out and not supposed to be using it as RAM actually... (it degrades storage too)

@@GigantTech i thought about it, but at the time I bought 3t 8/256 at nearly 2/3 of anything at the same level Xiaomi offers. I took a hit on 3.5 and ir, but got snap 870 and 8/256. My bt headphones are with ldac, so 3.5 is not much needed.
Poco phones are amazing but as a heads up they usually subsidize the cost by cramming the phone with apps that display ads, if you buy 'em be sure to check a guide on how to turn the ads off.

I had Poco X3 and then Poco F3. Loved them both. Got an amazing deal on the Pixel 6, so I got rid of the F3 but it's my fav phone ever. If the camera was a little better I'd have kept it for many many years.
not thay amazing always switching from 120h to 60hz , apps don't work properly, glitching and unstable UI. Great Hardware but trash software by trash the worst that I use, I also have samsung a53 while that phone hardware is wayyy inferior it still more stable and snappier. Genshin Impact is probably the app/game f3 that play better than a53
I had a POCO and it was great at first. But then I started getting spam notifications and the phone would go so slow that I can barely use it. I tried factory resetting it but it would still get really slow after an hour or so. I was constantly having to use their memory cleaner function which was also stuffed with ads. I don't trust their software / brand anymore.
I have the pro variant of this, Redmi note 10 pro. It has everything this poco has with 120 Hz super amoled display, amazing stereo speakers, glass back, sd 732g, 6 gb ram and 128 gb storage, replaces the 2 mp macro with a 5 mp macro with auto focus that takes amazing macro photos and costs $170
I would really enjoy more budget phone reviews. I buy a new phone about every 18 months on a under 300$ budget because I'm a clumsy broke boy and having reviews from a channel I trust like LMG is much nicer than trying to get a sense of what's out there from lots of other places I'm not familiar with. In a similar vein, a video on new vs used phones on a budget would be awesome and very helpful!
In my experience, Gorilla Glass 3 was the best. Didn't scratch at all. After that they made it slimmer and was prone to cracking at even the slightest of falla.
"Dynamic RAM" is basically a page file (if comparing to Windows) or a swap partition (if comparing to Linux). I have a Poco X3 Pro myself (8gb ram variant) and it has a setting called "Memory extension" that's basically that and adds 3gb ram, well kind of but I have no need for it so I turned it off. Bloatware was a bit of a pain due to having to resort using ADB to remove them (uninstalled on userspace and not running but still on ROM).
Excellent observation on the bloatware aspect. I, like everyone else love when phones have zero bloatware. But having used poco, redmi, xiaomi phones for years now, what I realized is, most of the MIUI apps come in handy at some point

Watching this on a regular M5 that I bought insanely cheap on a New Year's sale (like 100$ + taxes), I absolutely love it. It's amazing what kind of hardware you can get in the budget segment right now, wouldn't even dream about it 2-3 years ago.

@@OkarinHououinKyouma Pretty snappy, used an older Huawei phone from $200 range before it that was still holding on well, but M5 beats it in every metric. Apart maybe from Wi-Fi reception, the M5's antenna isn't that great. Other than that, no complaints with everyday use, running all kinds of apps or lighter games like World of Tank Blitz. Also no issues with bloatware, there are some pre-installed apps I never use and spent like an hour managing apps after turning it on for the first time, but there are some useful things (like a very rich selection of themes) and nothing genuinely intrusive. Also, just like with the S model, the battery life is phenomenal.
The IR blaster is super super useful. Very convenient to set it up with the TV and receiver and be able to control them from one device without having to find a remote.
I have been using the Poco f2 pro for years now and I don't plan on changing it, unless it dies. The front camera is hidden and pops up from the top mechanically if you need it. The IR blaster has been set up to control all the air cons around the house and I love it :D EDIT: The fast charging in Poco is a tad crappy, I have burned through 2 sets of flat cables and now I have normal wires soldered instead of the flat ones, hopefully they can withstand the fast charging. Batter lasts 2 days of normal use and 1 day if you game.
My old P20 Pro had an IR blaster. One time, on a ferry, the TV was on and obnoxiously loud. I picked up my phone, found the TV in the app and turned it down. I've never seen people look that impressed.
After 3 years of using a under display fingerprint I much prefer the scaner to be in the lock button, they are pretty fast and pretty reliable when you are wet or have dust on the hand.
Albeta's 5G coverage is fairly extensive and i use it all the time. I barely notice the difference between being at home and being on a hill watching CZcams (other than the data saver settings I keep enabled)
I had a Poco F1 and loved it. Super cheap but flagship soc. Yes it was the highest spec Snapdragon at the time. No water resistance or glass back. But I actually really liked that. Super easy to replace the LCD when there's no glued back panel or IP rating. Replaced it three times 🤣.

I have the M5 version, and it is pretty good, uses it for school for a whole day, played games on breaks, and it is on 68%. The good thing on the camera is there's a lot you can do on its pro mode
I have my POCO F3 now for over 1,5 years and it never disappointed me. Some might argue with MIUI being bad and slow, but imo it's just like many things a personal preference and opinion.
Additional two things I would care about in a phone is repairability and custom firmware support. Would be nice to see at least some hints to those in reviews! Simple answers would do: does it have a glass back panel? Any screws around the case? What are the steps to unlock bootloader?
Xiaomi midrange phones with snapdragon probably has the best custom ROM support this one is mediatek so nope it won't have that good. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for all Xiaomi phones the only thing is the first time you do you need to apply for it and wait for 1 week The back is polycarbonate, do you mean like actual literal screws sorry I am confused lol, it's a simple process to unlock the bootloader as I said a 5 mins yt vid will help you Hope I could help.
Ok two things lol I have never seen this guy but this is one of my top short circuit episodes I liked his style. Now second he said the pictures looked pretty solid but appeared to be a completely different ethnicity in the photo on the phone lol. Either way looks like a solid phone for a younger kid that maybe prone to breaking phones or a parent like mine that literally send 10 texts a day and the rest is phone calls/google searching a quick answer.

They have ANC and pretty good audio. Having tried Airpod Pros, they are technically worse, but not by enough to make it worth the price premium.
For those specs, at that price point it is hard to compete. I just go that "beta" Nothing Phone (1) for $300. Not exactly budget but compared to the other phones out there, for 8GB RAM + 128GB storage it's really hard to beat. I'd love to see more budget phone reviews because I think it's a market that's sorely missed here in west.
Just a heads up. For those looking to buy it for T-Mobile, well it won't work. If it's not a "US" based phone, the IMEI won't register it with the carrier. It might have to do with the Xiaomi phone us policy type deal.
At that price I'm half tempted to get one as a general purpose camera for streaming things like cooking and sculpting. Throw some IP camera software on it and you don't have to deal with a laptop (and maybe external webcam) to get what you want, just set it in a mini tripod with a cheap adjustable phone holder.
I buy a new phone every couple of years and usually go with whatever the current Moto G is, for around $200-250 simply because they are the definition of "good enough" but I am interested in something a little better in that price range.
You can unlock it from table if you add index finger fingerprint, Gorilla Glass 3 is maybe less scratch resistant but it is more drop resistant than newer gorilla glass, the dynamic ram is 6+2GB because it uses 2GB form storage which is slower.
One absolutely important thing to note about an IR blaster. A lot of places, in Greece in particular, do not offer aircon included in the hotel room price, so you would have to pay a few euro to get a remote for yours. BUT if you have an IR blaster on your phone you will be able to use it for the AC unit!

I'm watching this video on a Xiaomi POCO X3 Pro which cost me around 200€, it's incredibly fast with a good IPS display and a battery that lasts for longer then my memory of when I last charged it! Good phones aren't getting cheap, but cheap phones are getting good!
I got the Poco M4 Pro 5G as a testing device and have been extremely impressed with it. On T-Mobile it does get at least some 5G service, and otherwise works well. The thing that really can't be emphasized enough is the price. This is a $200 phone. The screen is bright and clear, the speakers are loud, the camera (which absolutely does have plenty of compute behind it, even if it's not got the experience or optical quality of a Pixel phone) is decent, expandable storage, a headphone jack, and enough specs to generally run smoothly. Poco does an amazing job making a $200 phone that doesn't have any obvious compromises. It's worth also noting, though, that their phones are in general quite good, and just a meager bump in price gets you actual more premium specs with a similar value proposition.
side fingerprint scanner are the best... just add another finger to use it on the table. It's way more comfortable to just use your index finger on the side than on top of the phone and also it would auto unlock as soon as you press the side button.
The certifications have to be on the back afaik in Europe. And isn't the +2 in the ram basically normal storage that gets used as ram if the other 6gb are maxed out?
Nope they don't. The certifications are required, but they are only on the back of the phones which insist on beeing glued shut. I have a phone that can be opened and here the certifications are under the battery (which can be replaced btw).
The Dynamic RAM is 6 + 2 because its actually RAM 6GB. The extra 2 are storage destined to work as RAM if needed, but with much lower speeds since it isnt RAM but a UFS memory chip
Great review except, why take photos in portrait mode? Surely landscape would give a better view of the image as well as reducing the need to zoom simply for full screen image playback.
One thing to take in mind is that these phones have adds. Yeah... You can avoid them easily, but they are there, specially in the pre instaled apps. Like fie explorer, themes, background, stuff like that.
I have a Poco F1 and it works great but in the USA the only carrier that used the 4g band it had was AT&T which I didn't have. My bad, only checked if it worked in the US, didn't check TMobile specifically.
My college spent millions of pounds rebranding and getting TVs everywhere, I turned off all the TVs with my S6 Edge IR blaster and when I finished college a year later they were still turned off. It's a useful feature to have sometimes (I'm not edgy, but I was doing an IT course and our computers were absolute dogshit and the canteen prices were ridiculous for a public college, and I spoke with the Headteacher when we went to a Microsoft convention and she literally said "We have no money to upgrade your computers", meanwhile they bought like 10 holo lens for the engineering department and spent millions on what I can only believe to be a money laundering scheme, look up Milton Keynes college and you will be presented with the worst logo of all time)
litle thing unmentioned in this video, it has front and back light sensor, so if you like to use your phone while lay on the bed, the brightness didn't decrease automatically, because behind the phone is brighter
Fingerprint reader on the side is actually my preferred placement for a fingerprint reader. It doesn't prevent you from using it when your phone is resting on the table since you can just touch the side as naturally as touching the front, and an external sensor is always going to be faster and more accurate than an under-screen one. Used to have a side fingerprint on my Sony Xperia (forgot which model), switched to under-screen on my Samsung Note 10+ and there's been a lot more annoyances for sure
This phone is a rebranded Redmi Note 10 4G (India) which I own. Except the processor (Helio G95 vs Snapdragon 680) and the primary camera (64MP vs 48MP). The Redmi Note 10 launched at about Rs. 13000 (about $160) but is now available new for $135.

Albeta's 5G coverage is fairly extensive and i use it all the time. I barely notice the difference between being at home and being on a hill watching CZcams (other than the data saver settings I keep enabled)
I had a Poco F1 and loved it. Super cheap but flagship soc. Yes it was the highest spec Snapdragon at the time. No water resistance or glass back. But I actually really liked that. Super easy to replace the LCD when there's no glued back panel or IP rating. Replaced it three times 🤣.
Isn't replacing it 3 times meant it wasn't that tough nor environmentally friendlier than a phone that doesn't break at all and can be used for 5/6 years?
@@aiki6378 I break all my phone's 🤣. Nothing bad about the Poco F1. The last time I replaced the LCD i had already bought another phone. I kept the Poco as a backup phone. I changed the battery at the same time.
I have the M5 version, and it is pretty good, uses it for school for a whole day, played games on breaks, and it is on 68%. The good thing on the camera is there's a lot you can do on its pro mode
I have my POCO F3 now for over 1,5 years and it never disappointed me. Some might argue with MIUI being bad and slow, but imo it's just like many things a personal preference and opinion.
Does the AOD stay turned on with the newest MIUI or its still only 10 sec?
Additional two things I would care about in a phone is repairability and custom firmware support. Would be nice to see at least some hints to those in reviews!
Simple answers would do: does it have a glass back panel? Any screws around the case? What are the steps to unlock bootloader?
Xiaomi midrange phones with snapdragon probably has the best custom ROM support this one is mediatek so nope it won't have that good. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for all Xiaomi phones the only thing is the first time you do you need to apply for it and wait for 1 week
The back is polycarbonate, do you mean like actual literal screws sorry I am confused lol, it's a simple process to unlock the bootloader as I said a 5 mins yt vid will help you

Ok two things lol I have never seen this guy but this is one of my top short circuit episodes I liked his style. Now second he said the pictures looked pretty solid but appeared to be a completely different ethnicity in the photo on the phone lol. Either way looks like a solid phone for a younger kid that maybe prone to breaking phones or a parent like mine that literally send 10 texts a day and the rest is phone calls/google searching a quick answer.

What features does a $1000+ dollar phone have that this doesn't and would you actually use any of the extra features. Why wouldn't this be a phone for your average smartphone user? Just interested!

If you do mean CAD then you can ignore this whole thing.) The most recent version of regular Airpods are $180 USD. Jake, the host of the show, said very specifically that he did not mean the Pros, which are $250 USD for the latest version.
@@moldyshishkabob I bought my Sony WF-1000XM3's (the in ear true wireless headphones, not the over the hear WH-1000XM3. I hate Sony's naming scheme) for $60 USD refurbished. They have ANC and pretty good audio. Having tried Airpod Pros, they are technically worse, but not by enough to make it worth the price premium.
For those specs, at that price point it is hard to compete. I just go that "beta" Nothing Phone (1) for $300. Not exactly budget but compared to the other phones out there, for 8GB RAM + 128GB storage it's really hard to beat. I'd love to see more budget phone reviews because I think it's a market that's sorely missed here in west.
I've got myself the M4 Pro 4G and it honestly is amazing. a 10th of the price of a flagship with all the same specs
The "plus 2GB" RAM are basically just SWAP memory, a bit of flash storage reserved for times when the actual RAM is filled up.
Just a heads up. For those looking to buy it for T-Mobile, well it won't work. If it's not a "US" based phone, the IMEI won't register it with the carrier. It might have to do with the Xiaomi phone us policy type deal.

At that price I'm half tempted to get one as a general purpose camera for streaming things like cooking and sculpting. Throw some IP camera software on it and you don't have to deal with a laptop (and maybe external webcam) to get what you want, just set it in a mini tripod with a cheap adjustable phone holder.
I buy a new phone every couple of years and usually go with whatever the current Moto G is, for around $200-250 simply because they are the definition of "good enough" but I am interested in something a little better in that price range.

You can unlock it from table if you add index finger fingerprint, Gorilla Glass 3 is maybe less scratch resistant but it is more drop resistant than newer gorilla glass, the dynamic ram is 6+2GB because it uses 2GB form storage which is slower.

One absolutely important thing to note about an IR blaster. A lot of places, in Greece in particular, do not offer aircon included in the hotel room price, so you would have to pay a few euro to get a remote for yours. BUT if you have an IR blaster on your phone you will be able to use it for the AC unit!

I'm watching this video on a Xiaomi POCO X3 Pro which cost me around 200€, it's incredibly fast with a good IPS display and a battery that lasts for longer then my memory of when I last charged it!

I got the Poco M4 Pro 5G as a testing device and have been extremely impressed with it. On T-Mobile it does get at least some 5G service, and otherwise works well. The thing that really can't be emphasized enough is the price. This is a $200 phone. The screen is bright and clear, the speakers are loud, the camera (which absolutely does have plenty of compute behind it, even if it's not got the experience or optical quality of a Pixel phone) is decent, expandable storage, a headphone jack, and enough specs to generally run smoothly. Poco does an amazing job making a $200 phone that doesn't have any obvious compromises. It's worth also noting, though, that their phones are in general quite good, and just a meager bump in price gets you actual more premium specs with a similar value proposition.

side fingerprint scanner are the best... just add another finger to use it on the table. It's way more comfortable to just use your index finger on the side than on top of the phone and also it would auto unlock as soon as you press the side button.

Nope they don't. The certifications are required, but they are only on the back of the phones which insist on beeing glued shut. I have a phone that can be opened and here the certifications are under the battery (which can be replaced btw).

It's not a "dynamic RAM system", those extra 2 gigs of RAM are reserved from the phone's storage, it's like a page file on PC

The Dynamic RAM is 6 + 2 because its actually RAM 6GB. The extra 2 are storage destined to work as RAM if needed, but with much lower speeds since it isnt RAM but a UFS memory chip
Great review except, why take photos in portrait mode? Surely landscape would give a better view of the image as well as reducing the need to zoom simply for full screen image playback.
One thing to take in mind is that these phones have adds. Yeah...
You can avoid them easily, but they are there, specially in the pre instaled apps. Like fie explorer, themes, background, stuff like that.
I have a Poco F1 and it works great but in the USA the only carrier that used the 4g band it had was AT&T which I didn't have. My bad, only checked if it worked in the US, didn't check TMobile specifically.
Another comment said Poco phones don't work with T-Mobile unfortunately.

My college spent millions of pounds rebranding and getting TVs everywhere, I turned off all the TVs with my S6 Edge IR blaster and when I finished college a year later they were still turned off. It's a useful feature to have sometimes (I'm not edgy, but I was doing an IT course and our computers were absolute dogshit and the canteen prices were ridiculous for a public college, and I spoke with the Headteacher when we went to a Microsoft convention and she literally said "We have no money to upgrade your computers", meanwhile they bought like 10 holo lens for the engineering department and spent millions on what I can only believe to be a money laundering scheme, look up Milton Keynes college and you will be presented with the worst logo of all time)

Gorilla glass 3 is actually more scratch resistant than gg5, which is why Motorola also used gg3 on its front and gg5 on the back of their edge 30 pro
Fingerprint reader on the side is actually my preferred placement for a fingerprint reader. It doesn't prevent you from using it when your phone is resting on the table since you can just touch the side as naturally as touching the front, and an external sensor is always going to be faster and more accurate than an under-screen one.
Used to have a side fingerprint on my Sony Xperia (forgot which model), switched to under-screen on my Samsung Note 10+ and there's been a lot more annoyances for sure
