"I'm 44 and I don't stay up late enough to watch this show". That has to be the greatest one liners ever said on a late night show!
Agree!
This old woman is harder than I will ever be. Respect.
Seth, my boy. You would be "DJ S&M" ;)
The pharmacist from my in my mail
This segment needs to be every week.
Indeed. There's no danger of the heavier things being ignored, and sometimes a short break is good.
The segment we need right now.
Agreed.
Most of the best stories came from Alderaan... sorry
review this segment every couple years
I live in Japan and I know who DJ Sumi-Rock is. Those Shinjuku clubs don't turn down the volume at all. She is in the Kibuki-cho area of Shinjuku. That is the bad-ass entertainment area of Shinjuku, and its got its "red light" elements too.
She's prob there too, bein a dominatrix.
Do you know if she knows about being featured on this show?
Sad that sexual exploitation is considered entertainment. I'm with DJ Sumi-Rock - just dance it out instead.
If you dislike this comment, when you die St. Peter hits you with a big fish like a Led Zepplin tale.
I lived in Shinjuku (15 mins by bike from Kabuki-cho) for 7 years and there is nowhere else like it on earth. I wish I was there right now to see and dance to DJ Sumi-Rock beats.
My grandmother stopped working at 85 and she's now 98 and she still cooks and does house chores. No one asks her to do this she just loves doing it and she says she can't see herself just laying around and have people take care of her. She'll be 99 in a few months and is looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday.
Love youre grandmother send her much love and respect from me 💓
Hook her up to a treadmill. The world needs a safe alternative to nuclear power.
Crystal IslandGirl - God bless Our Elder, I hope that she is granted many more years of life, mobility and sound mine. Blessing up you and your family as well Queen.
Crystal: you are so lucky to have this fabulous grandma! Happy 99th b-day to her!!
Crystal IslandGirl Happy birthday to your grandma! Sounds like a very cool lady!
Like the grandma that fought a cougar, killed it while breaking her own fingers while her granddaughter napped lol. Awesome old people. Keep them coming, Seth!
I used to live up the road from Takadanobaba. Used to be a rowdy red light district, pretty cleaned up these days but lots of rough folks on that side of Tokyo. This is one tough bachan.
Dance till you drop. I like that.
"Dance til you die" pretty sure she got that idea from a movie, props for making it happen, eventually, when shes slightly less bad ass and a little more metal
Goes to show you that being old isn't an excuse for not being able to figure out how to use electronics, or for being dull - don't let stereotypes stop you.
Yushatak totally agree.
Never doubt the quirk, adaptability, and badassedness of those who have lived longer :P
In Japan maybe. But I'm looking at the one's here, and I'm seeing a definitive lack of adaptability....and I *AM* old
I intend to quote you on that, philosophergeneral, and I will give you credit.
beverly jephcott Thank you, you're more than welcome to use that!
As a 68 yr old lady myself (doing some unusual stuff) this touched me and I thank you!!!
That granny probably bakes some extreme cookies
You couldn't even handle her cookies Bro.
Sexist idiot!
Laurie Cloonan a stoner metaphor ain’t sexist geez 🙄🙄🙄
She is cooler than a polar bear with triple sun glass on.
Whoever gave this a thumbs down is dead inside. This lady is maybe the coolest person I've ever seen.
Right? My grandmother couldn't be this cool if we cryogenically froze her.
Agreed
Evan Fields I agree with you 100%! I think it’s people who always give Seth a thumbs down. Total losers.
indeed members of the trump cult thumbs downed it too bad they are alive enough to vote + pull the strings of ameriKas govt.
I just think his patter can be rotten sometimes.
Just brilliant. This woman puts me to shame (a mere male of 63 with 50☆% of her energy).
I thought the same thing about myself!😝
This is such a great segment.
That... She just put my twenty year old self to shame. I am fighting myself to wake up before noon and sleeping before modnight. Meanwhile, she is having a double life.
The late great much lamented Sir Terry Pratchett said that the world runs because of all the hard work being done by the "little old ladies" dressed in black. They do all of the heavy lifting. I think he was right.
Sandra Nelson - all hail to the Pratchett. His brilliantly left field whimsy is a great legacy to us all.
Are you over 50? I don't know anyone under 40 who reads Pratchett and watches Myers. Whatever your age; good for
32 here, been a Pratchett fan for fifteen plus years and have watched late night news shows since around 2004ish
Man, I'm over 50...I think I'm going to start reading this Pratchett fellow...
@@dtschuor459 Think Lord of the Rings characters mixed with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sensibility. You can skip The Light Fantastic and The Color of Magic....he hadn't worked out exactly what he wanted from discworld yet.
Oh, and I'm 45...sooooo.....
one can only hope they are having as much fun as her when they are her age
Badass Obaa-san
She's my spirit animal!
Cool Granny!
You're so right....wow thats really great to be that strong....how did you find her anyway lol......she's special
She'd pretty rad.
I love when he looks into the camera and just shouts “THIS IS THE KIND OF STORY WE NEED RIGHT NOW!”
I thought my Nan was pretty rad for liking Lady Gaga and getting really into the NBA after her hip replacement surgery...
Cool grandmother 😏
She does sound pretty rad.
WOW hats off to madam grandma Iwamuru ! An inspiring woman she is 👍😊
I’ve been having a rough day but this really cracked me up. Thanks XD
I want to be her when I grow up!
And seen this lady in every stupid hipster commercial from Apple to Microsoft. She is cool and she is beyond awesome...the people who make those commercials - not so much.
That lady rules!
This is the best segment.
Awesome! This is the kind of story we need right now.
Everyone should go Shinjuku, it's one of the most beautiful streets of Tokyo, they have this coloured fashion, called decora that is so pretty, they also have a more darker fashion that exposes depression and mental health, using pastel colours, black and details that can shock people, but it's beautiful. So please, visit Shinjuku, eat the amazing food and just sit. It's an experience that you'll never forget.
Calling Shinjuku a street is like calling Manhattan a street, though. All the fashion stuff you're talking about sounds more like Harajuku, and that's a different, smaller part of Tokyo. But still more than a street!
Anyway, DJ Sumirock sounds cool. I know from having lived there that part of why she can do all this stuff is she's got very little to worry about being out so late. And realistically, she probably has to bike home. Maybe Uber caught on in Japan since I left there a year ago, but I don't think so... and cabs are pretty expensive. All other transit shuts down much earlier, and the crime rate is so low in Japan that she's pretty much safe. Hell, she'd probably scare away any potential threats if she stayed in her DJ outfit.
Shinjuku is awesome, I love those really tight streets filled with tiny bars and restaurants
So... Chuunibyou/Edgy/Goth fashion? I am interested in the badass lady, though.
Travel Japan is top in my bucket list
Tokyo is the great Earthican city, its more than just a "city" it's streets lead through a seeming unending maze of buzzing cosmopolitan life, one could live a hundred years and not come close to seeing and experiencing all Tokyo, it's constantly changing in astounding ways reaching toward the future
Mess it up gramgram!
The club where this DJ plays sounds like something that would definitely be recommended by Stefon
If you're drunk in Shinjuku, doing coke off a Hello Kitty vending machine, I have just the place for you. Kibuki-Cho's hottest club is "Niko Niko Supakuru." This former middle school gym, which became a McDonalds, then became a love hotel, has an excessive yet nostalgic feel. Like when Tom Cruise has a movie scene where he runs away from things long enough for you to go to the bathroom and get a refill on popcorn without missing any of the plot. This place has everything. Kabuki actors, sports cars with unnecessarily large spoilers, an 80 year old DJ, Roman J Israel Esquire. Plus, you can play everyone's favorite party game, "Touch the kitty." You know that sitcom 'That 70's Show?' It's when everyone makes a circle around Debra Jo Rupp, who played Kitty Foreman, and take turns gently touching the tip of her nose.
LMAO
electronsympathy... Nice!
DJ Sumi Rock your my inspiration forever!! Yeah! baby yeah!!
#goals
She is such an inspiration
Japan, the Land of Wonders xD
Man, my grandma isn't even this badass when there's a two for one Aquaphor sale at Walgreen's, and the supply runs low. Also, if she's up at 4am, it's to pee for the fourteenth time that night. Props to DJ Sumi Rock. ✌💚 Definitely the kind of story we need right now. While I'm at it, can we ask why this isn't a daily segment?? Could use some more of these!
Lol I'm 24 and I have about 1/50 her energy FML
"This is the Kind of Story We Need Right Now" is the kind of segment I need all the time.
this segment ages well, like the lady it pertains to
After having watched a video about Jake Paul that's exactly the story I needed right now to restore my faith in humanity
Thanks Seth ❤
Why were you watching a video about Jake Paul? Are you a masochist? 😂😂
who?
iBelieveEverything iSeeOnCZcams If this is a real question, don’t look for the answer. It will make you question humanity on a fundamental level.
Yeah. Don’t watch those assholes.
*THE definition of a living Grandma Badass!* 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love this woman and I love Seth Meyers. Thank you world for giving us such wonderful people.
More of these PLEASE Seth Meyers!!!!! 💗💗💗😎
I FUCKING LOVE THIS STORY!!!!
Seth Myers and his writing team are hilarious!!! 😂🤣
2:41 can't help but notice the brightest smile.
Thank you Seth, This WAS the kind of story I needed right now.... Props to grandma! Wish I was that cool.
awesome!
Sumiko is such a badass! I love her! DJ Sumi Rock!
Great story! Had a bit of an issue at the :20 mark with "a eighty three" but I pulled my head out of my ass, made this post, and finished watching it. Way to go DJ Deep Ends!
Cookin' it an kickin' it. Nice!
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SEGMENT ON ANY OF THE LATE SHOWS
This is so awesome. More of this.
She has a huge fire in her heart.. 😶🙏
I want to be this lady when I grow up.
Absolutely one of the best segments ever
You Rock Granny!
I know I needed it!
This just cheered me up so hard
We need *_more_* of this segment !!!
Awesome!!! I love this segment.

TXS I saw an 84 years old female stand up comic and took her course. Now I do stand up I am 70. as long as we are not dead we live.
YES, YES, YES!!! I love this! Rock on Sumirock!
Awesome stories! I love this segment 💘
She is amazing!
In Japan they revere their elders. This is great!
wow i cant believe you can teach old people things and that they like to have fun
Living to the fullest
Yep. I needed that. It had to happen.
Wow this is amazing!
Daaaaaamn. I love it!
Great truths indeed , the grandma bobcat story is great too!
new life goals
That, incredibly, WAS the kind of story I needed. Right now. Talk about truth in advertising
You really need a fast hand when you're scratching 78 rpm records.
Love Seth but c'mon she doesn't use her earphones to blend beats on a twin vinyl mix desk, no she plays skrillex then another track then another track. She's pure gimmick. Bet she doesn't even know what BPM is an acronym for & I think your talking about engines >RPM?
@@hydrodwarf how do we know that? We're only shown a montage of her here
So Davie criticises the DJ for (he claims) not using vinyl, but Davie doesn't seem to know what 'RPM' means in the context of vinyl. Well that's clearly someone whose opinion on the subject is worth listening to.
@@hydrodwarf wow for someone who’ thinks to know something, you don’t know 💩lol
Such a badass lady I support everyone who lives out their dreams!
this is the kind of story we need right now!
Omigawd I needed that!! 😂💜😂💜😂💜😂💜
I love these new segments 😅
Much respect to this lady. She sounds more tech savvy than I am. Definitely a better cook, I'm sure.
she’s an inspiration
THIS IS INSPIRATIONAL.
Respect!
Respect !!!
LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😎😎😎😎😎
Awesome
83 and still rockin.
"Old people ruining things" 😂😂😂
Matt Tapps
Until this video I would have said it happens to us all, but now it’s clear that it doesn’t.
